2 It is eleven ^H259 H6240 days’ ^H3117 journey from Horeb ^H2722 by the way ^H1870 of Mount ^H2022 Seir ^H8165 to Kadesh-barnea ^H6947. 3 Now it happened, in the fortieth ^H705 year ^H8141, on the first ^H259 day of the eleventh ^H6249 H6240 month ^H2320, Moses ^H4872 spoke ^H1696 to the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, according to all ^H3605 that [fn]Yahweh ^H3068 had commanded ^H6680 him to give to them, 4 after ^H310 he had struck ^H5221 down ^H5221 Sihon ^H5511 the king ^H4428 of the Amorites ^H567, who ^H834 lived ^H3427 in Heshbon ^H2809, and Og ^H5747 the king ^H4428 of Bashan ^H1316, who ^H834 lived ^H3427 in Ashtaroth ^H6252 [fn]and Edrei ^H154. 5 Across ^H5676 the Jordan ^H3383 in the land ^H776 of Moab ^H4124, Moses ^H4872 undertook ^H2974 to expound ^H874 this ^H2088 law ^H8451, saying ^H559,

9 “And I spoke ^H559 to you at that time ^H6256, saying ^H559, ‘I am ^H3201 not able ^H3201 to bear ^H5375 the burden of you alone ^H905. 10 Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430 has multiplied ^H7235 you, and behold ^H2009, you are this day ^H3117 like the stars ^H3556 of heaven ^H8064 in number ^H7230. 11 May Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of your fathers ^H1, increase ^H3254 you a thousand-fold ^H505 H6471 more ^H3254 than you are and bless ^H1288 you, just ^H834 as He has [fn]promised ^H1696 you! 12 How ^H351 can I alone ^H905 bear ^H5375 the load ^H2960 and burden ^H4853 of you and your strife ^H7379? 13 [fn]Choose ^H3051 wise ^H2450 and understanding ^H995 and experienced ^H3045 men ^H376 from your tribes ^H7626, and I will appoint ^H7760 them as your heads ^H7218.’ 14 Then you answered ^H6030 me and said ^H559, ‘The thing ^H1697 which ^H834 you have said ^H1696 to do ^H6213 is good ^H2896.’ 15 So I took ^H3947 the heads ^H7218 of your tribes ^H7626, wise ^H2450 and experienced ^H3045 men ^H376, and gave ^H5414 them as heads ^H7218 over ^H5921 you, leaders ^H8269 of thousands ^H505 and [fn]of hundreds ^H3967, [fn]of fifties ^H2572 and [fn]of tens ^H6235, and officers ^H7860 for your tribes ^H7626.

16 “Then I commanded ^H6680 your judges ^H8199 at that time ^H6256, saying ^H559, ‘Hear ^H8085 the cases between ^H996 your brothers ^H251, and judge ^H8199 righteously ^H6664 between ^H996 a man ^H376 and his brother ^H251 or the sojourner ^H1616 who is with him. 17 You shall not show ^H5234 partiality ^H5234 H6440 in judgment ^H4941; you shall hear ^H8085 the small ^H6996 and the great ^H1419 alike. You shall not fear ^H1481 [fn]man ^H376, for the judgment ^H4941 is God’s ^H430. The case ^H1697 that is ^H7185 too ^H4480 hard ^H7185 for you, you shall bring ^H7126 to me, and I will hear ^H8085 it.’ 18 And I commanded ^H6680 you at that time ^H6256 all ^H3605 the things ^H1697 that you should do ^H6213.

19 “Then we set ^H5265 out ^H5265 from Horeb ^H2722 and went ^H1980 through all ^H3605 that great ^H1419 and fearsome ^H3372 wilderness ^H4057 which ^H834 you saw ^H7200 on the way ^H1870 to the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 of the Amorites ^H567, just ^H834 as Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430 had commanded ^H6680 us; and we came ^H935 to Kadesh-barnea ^H6947. 20 And I said ^H559 to you, ‘You have come ^H935 to the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 of the Amorites ^H567 which ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430 is about to give ^H5414 us. 21 See ^H7200, Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430 has given ^H5414 over the land ^H776 before ^H6440 you; go ^H5927 up ^H5927, take ^H3423 possession ^H3423, as Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of your fathers ^H1, has spoken ^H1696 to you. Do not fear ^H3372 or be dismayed ^H2865.’

22 “Then all ^H3605 of you came ^H7126 near to me and said ^H559, ‘Let us send ^H7971 men ^H376 before ^H6440 us, that they may search ^H2658 out ^H2658 the land ^H776 for us and bring ^H7725 back ^H7725 to us word ^H1697 of the way ^H1870 by which ^H834 we should go ^H5927 up ^H5927 and the cities ^H5892 which ^H834 we shall enter ^H935.’ 23 And the thing ^H1697 was good ^H3190 in my sight ^H5869, and I took ^H3947 twelve ^H8147 H6240 of your men ^H376, one ^H259 man ^H376 for each tribe ^H7626. 24 Then they turned ^H6437 and went ^H5927 up ^H5927 into the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 and came ^H935 to the valley ^H5158 of Eshcol ^H812 and spied ^H7270 it out ^H7270. 25 Then they took ^H3947 some of the fruit ^H6529 of the land ^H776 in their hands ^H3027 and brought ^H3381 it down ^H3381 to us; and they brought ^H7725 word ^H1697 back ^H7725 to us and said ^H559, ‘It is a good ^H2896 land ^H776 which ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430 is about to give ^H5414 us.’

26 “Yet you were ^H14 not willing ^H14 to go ^H5927 up ^H5927, but rebelled ^H4784 against ^H854 the [fn]command ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430; 27 and you grumbled ^H7279 in your tents ^H168 and said ^H559, ‘Because Yahweh ^H3068 hates ^H8135 us, He has brought ^H3318 us out ^H3318 of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 to give ^H5414 us into the hand ^H3027 of the Amorites ^H567 to destroy ^H8045 us. 28 Where ^H575 can we go ^H5927 up ^H5927? And moreover ^H1571, we saw ^H7200 the sons ^H1121 of the Anakim ^H6062 there ^H8033.”’ 29 Then I said ^H559 to you, ‘Do not be in dread ^H6206, nor ^H3808 fear ^H3372 them. 30 Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430, who goes ^H1980 before ^H6440 you, will Himself ^H1931 fight ^H3898 on your behalf, [fn]just ^H3605 H834 as He did ^H6213 for you in Egypt ^H4714 before your eyes ^H5869, 31 and in the wilderness ^H4057 where ^H834 you saw ^H7200 how ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430 carried ^H5375 you, just ^H834 as a man ^H376 carries ^H5375 his son ^H1121, in all ^H3605 the way ^H1870 which ^H834 you have walked ^H1980 until ^H5704 you came ^H935 to this ^H2088 place ^H4725.’ 32 But [fn]for all this ^H2088, you did not believe ^H539 Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430, 33 who goes ^H1980 before ^H6440 you on your way ^H1870, to spy ^H8446 out ^H8446 a place ^H4725 for you to encamp ^H2583, in fire ^H784 by night ^H3915 and cloud ^H6051 by day ^H3119, to show ^H7200 you the way ^H1870 in which ^H834 you should go ^H1980.

34 “Then Yahweh ^H3068 heard ^H8085 the sound ^H6963 of your words ^H1697, and He was ^H7107 angry ^H7107 and swore ^H7650 an oath, saying ^H559, 35 ‘Not one ^H376 of these ^H428 men ^H376, this ^H2088 evil ^H7451 generation ^H1755, shall see ^H7200 the good ^H2896 land ^H776 which ^H834 I swore ^H7650 to give ^H5414 your fathers ^H1, 36 except ^H2108 Caleb ^H3612 the son ^H1121 of Jephunneh ^H3312; he shall see ^H7200 it, and to him and to his sons ^H1121 I will give ^H5414 the land ^H776 on which ^H834 he has set ^H1869 foot ^H1869, because ^H3282 H834 he has followed ^H310 Yahweh ^H3068 fully ^H4390.’ 37 Yahweh ^H3068 was angry ^H599 with me also ^H1571 on your account ^H1558, saying ^H559, ‘Not even ^H1571 you shall enter ^H935 there ^H8033. 38 Joshua ^H3091 the son ^H1121 of Nun ^H5126, who stands ^H5975 before ^H6440 you, he shall enter ^H935 there ^H8033; strengthen ^H2388 him, for he will cause ^H5157 Israel ^H3478 to ^H5157 inherit ^H5157 it. 39 Moreover, your little ^H2945 ones ^H2945 who ^H834 you said ^H559 would become ^H1961 plunder ^H957, and your sons ^H1121, who ^H834 this day ^H3117 have ^H3045 no ^H3808 knowledge ^H3045 of good ^H2896 or evil ^H7451, shall enter ^H935 there ^H8033, and I will give ^H5414 it to them, and they shall possess ^H3423 it. 40 But as for you, turn ^H6437 around ^H6437 and set ^H5265 out ^H5265 for the wilderness ^H4057 by the way ^H1870 to the [fn]Red ^H5488 Sea ^H3220.’

41 “Then you said ^H559 to me, ‘We have sinned ^H2398 against Yahweh ^H3068; we will indeed go ^H5927 up ^H5927 and fight ^H3898, just ^H3605 H834 as Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430 commanded ^H6680 us.’ And every ^H376 man ^H376 of you girded ^H2296 on his weapons ^H3627 of war ^H4421 and regarded ^H1951 it as ^H1951 easy ^H1951 to go ^H5927 up ^H5927 into the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022. 42 And Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, ‘Say ^H559 to them, “Do not go ^H5927 up ^H5927 and do not ^H3808 fight ^H3898—for I am not among ^H7130 you—so ^H3808 that you are not [fn]defeated ^H5062 before ^H6440 your enemies ^H340.”’ 43 So I spoke ^H1696 to you, but you would not listen ^H8085. Instead you rebelled ^H4784 against ^H854 the [fn]command ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068 and acted ^H2102 presumptuously ^H2102 and went ^H5927 up ^H5927 into the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022. 44 And the Amorites ^H567 who [fn]lived ^H3427 in that hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 came ^H3318 out ^H3318 to meet ^H7122 you and pursued ^H7291 you as bees ^H1682 do ^H6213 and crushed ^H3807 you from Seir ^H8165 to Hormah ^H2767. 45 Then you returned ^H7725 and wept ^H1058 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068; but Yahweh ^H3068 did not listen ^H8085 to your voice ^H6963 nor ^H3808 give ^H238 ear ^H238 to you. 46 So you remained ^H3427 in Kadesh ^H6946 many ^H7227 days ^H3117, according to the days ^H3117 that you remained ^H3427 there.
