Water from the Rock

1 Then all ^H3605 the congregation ^H5712 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 journeyed ^H5265 by [fn]stages ^H4550 from the wilderness ^H4057 of Sin ^H5512, according ^H5921 to the [fn]command ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068, and they camped ^H2583 at Rephidim ^H7508, and there ^H369 was ^H369 no ^H369 water ^H4325 for the people ^H5971 to drink ^H8354.

2 Therefore the people ^H5971 contended ^H7378 with Moses ^H4872 and said ^H559, “Give ^H5414 us water ^H4325 that we may drink ^H8354.” And Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to them, “Why ^H4100 do you contend ^H7378 with me? Why ^H4100 do you test ^H5254 Yahweh ^H3068?” 3 But the people ^H5971 thirsted ^H6770 there ^H8033 for water ^H4325; and [fn]they grumbled ^H3885 against ^H5921 Moses ^H4872 and said ^H559, “Why ^H4100, now ^H2088, have you brought ^H5927 us up ^H5927 from Egypt ^H4714, to put ^H4191 [fn]us and [fn]our children ^H1121 and [fn]our livestock ^H4735 to ^H4191 death ^H4191 with thirst ^H6772?” 4 So Moses ^H4872 cried ^H6817 out ^H6817 to Yahweh ^H3068, saying ^H559, “What ^H4100 shall I do ^H6213 to this ^H2088 people ^H5971? A little ^H4592 more ^H5750 and they will stone ^H5619 me.” 5 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Pass ^H5674 before ^H6440 the people ^H5971 and take ^H3947 with you some ^H4480 of the elders ^H2205 of Israel ^H3478; and take ^H3947 in your hand ^H3027 your staff ^H4294 with which ^H834 you struck ^H5221 the Nile ^H2975, and go ^H1980. 6 Behold ^H2009, I will stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 you there ^H8033 on the rock ^H6697 at Horeb ^H2722; and you shall strike ^H5221 the rock ^H6697, and water ^H4325 will come ^H3318 out ^H3318 of it, that the people ^H5971 may drink ^H8354.” And Moses ^H4872 did ^H6213 so ^H3651 in the sight ^H5869 of the elders ^H2205 of Israel ^H3478. 7 So he named ^H7121 H8034 the place ^H4725 [fn]Massah ^H4532 and [fn]Meribah ^H4809 because ^H5921 of the contending ^H7379 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, and because ^H5921 they tested ^H5254 Yahweh ^H3068, saying ^H559, “Is Yahweh ^H3068 among ^H7130 us or ^H518 not?”

Israel Overwhelms Amalek

8 Then Amalek ^H6002 came ^H935 and fought ^H3898 against ^H5973 Israel ^H3478 at Rephidim ^H7508.

9 So Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to Joshua ^H3091, “Choose ^H977 men ^H376 for us and go ^H3318 out ^H3318, fight ^H3898 against Amalek ^H6002. Tomorrow ^H4279 I will take my stand ^H5324 on the top ^H7218 of the hill ^H1389 with the staff ^H4294 of God ^H430 in my hand ^H3027.” 10 And Joshua ^H3091 did ^H6213 as Moses ^H4872 [fn]told ^H559 him, to fight ^H3898 against Amalek ^H6002; and Moses ^H4872, Aaron ^H175, and Hur ^H2354 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 to the top ^H7218 of the hill ^H1389. 11 So it happened ^H1961 when ^H834 Moses ^H4872 raised ^H7311 his hand ^H3027 up ^H7311, that Israel ^H3478 prevailed ^H1396, and when ^H834 he let ^H5117 his hand ^H3027 [fn]down ^H5117, Amalek ^H6002 prevailed ^H1396. 12 But Moses’ hands ^H3027 were heavy ^H3515. Then they took ^H3947 a stone ^H68 and put ^H7760 it under ^H8478 him, and he sat ^H3427 on it; and Aaron ^H175 and Hur ^H2354 supported ^H8551 his hands ^H3027, one ^H259 on one ^H2088 side ^H2088 and one ^H259 on the other ^H2088. 14 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Write ^H3789 this ^H2088 in [fn]a book ^H5612 as a memorial ^H2146 and [fn]recite ^H7760 it in Joshua’s ^H3091 hearing ^H241, [fn]that I will utterly ^H4229 blot ^H4229 out ^H4229 the memory ^H2143 of Amalek ^H6002 from under ^H8478 heaven ^H8064.” 15 And Moses ^H4872 built ^H1129 an altar ^H4196 and named ^H7121 H8034 it Yahweh ^H3068 is My Banner ^H5251; 16 and he said ^H559, “Because He has sworn with a hand ^H3027 upon ^H5921 the throne ^H3678 of Yah ^H3050, Yahweh ^H3068 will have war ^H4421 against Amalek ^H6002 from generation ^H1755 to ^H1755 generation ^H1755.”
