Israel at Sinai

1 In the third ^H7992 month ^H2320 after the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 had gone ^H3318 out ^H3318 of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, on this day ^H3117 they came ^H935 into the wilderness ^H4057 of Sinai ^H5514.

2 Then they set ^H5265 out ^H5265 from Rephidim ^H7508 and came ^H935 to the wilderness ^H4057 of Sinai ^H5514 and camped ^H2583 in the wilderness ^H4057; and there ^H8033 Israel ^H3478 camped ^H2583 in front ^H5048 of the mountain ^H2022.

3 Now Moses ^H4872 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 to God ^H430, and Yahweh ^H3068 called ^H7121 to him from the mountain ^H2022, saying ^H559, “Thus ^H3541 you shall say ^H559 to the house ^H1004 of Jacob ^H3290 and tell ^H5046 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478: 4 ‘You yourselves ^H859 have seen ^H7200 what ^H834 I did ^H6213 to the Egyptians ^H4714, and how I lifted ^H5375 you up ^H5375 on eagles’ ^H5404 wings ^H3671 and brought ^H935 you to Myself. 5 So now ^H6258 then, if ^H518 you will indeed ^H8085 listen ^H8085 to My voice ^H6963 and keep ^H8104 My covenant ^H1285, then you shall be My treasured ^H5459 possession ^H5459 among ^H4480 all ^H3605 the peoples ^H5971, for all ^H3605 the earth ^H776 is Mine; 6 and you shall be to Me a kingdom ^H4467 of priests ^H3548 and a holy ^H6918 nation ^H1471.’ These ^H428 are the words ^H1697 that you shall speak ^H1696 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478.”

7 So Moses ^H4872 came ^H935 and called ^H7121 the elders ^H2205 of the people ^H5971 and set ^H7760 before ^H6440 them all ^H3605 these ^H428 words ^H1697 which ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 had commanded ^H6680 him. 8 And all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 answered ^H6030 together ^H3162 and said ^H559, “All ^H3605 that Yahweh ^H3068 has spoken ^H1696 we will do ^H6213!” And Moses ^H4872 brought ^H7725 back ^H7725 the words ^H1697 of the people ^H5971 to Yahweh ^H3068. 9 Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Behold ^H2009, I will come ^H935 to you in a thick ^H5672 cloud ^H6051, so ^H5668 that the people ^H5971 may hear ^H8085 when I speak ^H1696 with you and may also ^H1571 believe ^H539 in you forever ^H5769.” Then Moses ^H4872 told ^H5046 the words ^H1697 of the people ^H5971 to Yahweh ^H3068.

10 Yahweh ^H3068 also said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Go ^H1980 to the people ^H5971 and set ^H6942 them apart ^H6942 as ^H6942 holy ^H6942 today ^H3117 and tomorrow ^H4279, and let them wash ^H3526 their garments ^H8071; 11 and let them be ready ^H3559 for the third ^H7992 day ^H3117, for on the third ^H7992 day ^H3117 Yahweh ^H3068 will come ^H3381 down ^H3381 on Mount ^H2022 Sinai ^H5514 in the sight ^H5869 of all ^H3605 the people ^H5971. 12 And you shall set ^H1379 bounds ^H1379 for the people ^H5971 all ^H5439 around ^H5439, saying ^H559, ‘[fn]Beware ^H8104 that you do not go ^H5927 up ^H5927 on the mountain ^H2022 or touch ^H5060 the border ^H7097 of it; whoever ^H3605 touches ^H5060 the mountain ^H2022 shall surely ^H4191 be put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191. 13 No ^H3808 hand ^H3027 shall touch ^H5060 him, but he shall surely ^H5619 be stoned ^H5619 or ^H176 surely [fn]shot ^H3384 through ^H3384; whether ^H518 beast ^H929 or ^H518 man ^H376, he shall not live ^H2421.’ When the ram’s ^H3104 horn ^H3104 sounds ^H4900 a ^H4900 long ^H4900 blast ^H4900, they shall come ^H5927 up ^H5927 to the mountain ^H2022.” 14 So Moses ^H4872 went ^H3381 down ^H3381 from the mountain ^H2022 to the people ^H5971 and set ^H6942 the people ^H5971 apart ^H6942 as ^H6942 holy ^H6942, and they washed ^H3526 their garments ^H8071. 15 And he said ^H559 to the people ^H5971, “Be ready ^H3559 for the third ^H7969 day ^H3117; do not go ^H5066 near ^H5066 a woman ^H802.”

16 So it happened ^H1961 on the third ^H7992 day ^H3117, when it was morning ^H1242, that there were [fn]thunder ^H6963 and lightning ^H1300 flashes ^H1300 and a [fn]thick ^H3515 cloud ^H6051 upon the mountain ^H2022 and a very ^H3966 loud ^H2389 trumpet ^H7782 sound ^H6963, so that all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 who ^H834 were in the camp ^H4264 trembled ^H2729. 17 And Moses ^H4872 brought ^H3318 the people ^H5971 out ^H3318 of the camp ^H4264 to meet ^H7122 God ^H430, and they stood ^H3320 at the [fn]foot ^H8482 of the mountain ^H2022.

Yahweh Descends on Mount Sinai

18 Now Mount ^H2022 Sinai ^H5514 was all ^H3605 in smoke ^H6225 because ^{H4480 H6440 H834} Yahweh ^H3068 descended ^H3381 upon it in fire ^H784; and its smoke ^H6227 ascended ^H5927 like the smoke ^H6227 of a furnace ^H3536, and the whole ^H3605 mountain ^H2022 trembled ^H2729 violently ^H3966. 19 And the sound ^H6963 of the trumpet ^H7782 grew ^H1980 louder ^H2388 and louder ^H3966; then Moses ^H4872 spoke ^H1696 and God ^H430 answered ^H6030 him with [fn]thunder ^H6963. 20 And Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H3381 down ^H3381 on Mount ^H2022 Sinai ^H5514, to the top ^H7218 of the mountain ^H2022; and Yahweh ^H3068 called ^H7121 Moses ^H4872 to the top ^H7218 of the mountain ^H2022, and Moses ^H4872 went ^H5927 up ^H5927. 21 Then Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Go ^H3381 down ^H3381, [fn]warn ^H5749 the people ^H5971, lest ^H6435 they break ^H2040 through ^H2040 to Yahweh ^H3068 to see ^H7200, and many ^H7227 of them [fn]perish ^H5307. 22 Also ^H1571 let the priests ^H3548 who come ^H5066 near ^H5066 to Yahweh ^H3068 set ^H6942 themselves apart ^H6942 as ^H6942 holy ^H6942, lest ^H6435 Yahweh ^H3068 break ^H6555 out ^H6555 against them.” 23 And Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to Yahweh ^H3068, “The people ^H5971 cannot ^H3201 H3808 come ^H5927 up ^H5927 to Mount ^H2022 Sinai ^H5514, for You [fn]warned ^H5749 us, saying ^H559, ‘Set ^H1379 bounds ^H1379 about the mountain ^H2022, and set ^H6942 it apart ^H6942 as ^H6942 holy ^H6942.’” 24 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to him, “[fn]Go ^H1980 H3381 down ^H3381 and come ^H5927 up ^H5927 again, you and Aaron ^H175 with you; but do not let the priests ^H3548 and the people ^H5971 break ^H2040 through ^H2040 to come ^H5927 up ^H5927 to Yahweh ^H3068, lest ^H6435 He break ^H6555 out ^H6555 against them.” 25 So Moses ^H4872 went ^H3381 down ^H3381 to the people ^H5971 and told ^H559 them.
