The Vision of Captivity

1 Then the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559,

2 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, you live ^H3427 in the midst ^H8432 of the rebellious ^H4805 house ^H1004, who ^H834 have eyes ^H5869 to see ^H7200 but do not see ^H7200, ears ^H241 to hear ^H8085 but do not hear ^H8085; for they are a rebellious ^H4805 house ^H1004. 3 Now as for you, son ^H1121 of man ^H120, prepare ^H6213 for yourself baggage ^H3627 for exile ^H1473 and go ^H1540 into ^H1540 exile ^H1540 by day ^H3119 in their sight ^H5869; even go ^H1540 into ^H1540 exile ^H1540 from your place ^H4725 to another ^H312 place ^H4725 in their sight ^H5869. Perhaps ^H194 they will see ^H7200, though ^H3588 they are a rebellious ^H4805 house ^H1004. 4 Bring ^H3318 your baggage ^H3627 out ^H3318 by day ^H3119 in their sight ^H5869, as baggage ^H3627 for exile ^H1473. Then you will go ^H3318 out ^H3318 at evening ^H6153 in their sight ^H5869, as those going ^H4161 into exile ^H1473. 5 In their sight ^H5869, dig ^H2864 a hole through the wall ^H7023 and [fn]go ^H3318 out ^H3318 through it. 6 In their sight ^H5869, carry ^H5375 the baggage on your shoulder ^H3802 and bring ^H3318 it out ^H3318 in the dark ^H5939. You shall cover ^H3680 your face ^H6440 so that you cannot ^H3808 see ^H7200 the land ^H776, for I have set ^H5414 you as a wondrous ^H4159 sign ^H4159 to the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478.”

7 I did ^H6213 so ^H3651, as I had been commanded ^H6680. By day ^H3119 I brought ^H3318 out ^H3318 my baggage ^H3627 like the baggage ^H3627 of an exile ^H1473. Then in the evening ^H6153 I dug ^H2864 through the wall ^H7023 with my hands ^H3027; I went ^H3318 out ^H3318 in the dark ^H5939 and carried ^H5375 the baggage on my shoulder ^H3802 in their sight ^H5869.

8 And in the morning ^H1242 the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559, 9 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, has not the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, the rebellious ^H4805 house ^H1004, said ^H559 to you, ‘What ^H4100 are you doing ^H6213?’ 10 Say ^H559 to them, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, “This ^H2088 [fn]oracle ^H4853 concerns the prince ^H5387 in Jerusalem ^H3389 as well as all ^H3605 the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 who ^H834 are [fn]in it.”’ 11 Say ^H559, ‘I am [fn]a wondrous ^H4159 sign ^H4159 to you. As I have done ^H6213, so ^H3651 it will be done ^H6213 to them; they will go ^H1980 into exile ^H1473, into captivity ^H7628.’ 12 The prince ^H5387 who ^H834 is among ^H8432 them will carry ^H5375 his baggage on his shoulder ^H3802 in the dark ^H5939 and go ^H3318 out ^H3318. [fn]They will dig ^H2864 a hole through the wall ^H7023 to bring ^H3318 it out ^H3318. He will cover ^H3680 his face ^H6440 so ^H3282 H834 that he cannot see ^H7200 the land ^H776 with his eyes ^H5869. 13 I will also spread ^H6566 My net ^H7568 over ^H5921 him, and he will be caught ^H8610 in My snare ^H4686. And I will bring ^H935 him to Babylon ^H894 in the land ^H776 of the Chaldeans ^H3778; yet he will not see ^H7200 it, though he will die ^H4191 there ^H8033. 14 And I will scatter ^H2219 to every ^H3605 wind ^H7307 all ^H3605 who ^H834 are around ^H5439 him, his helpers ^H5828 and all ^H3605 his troops ^H102; and I will draw ^H7324 out ^H7324 a sword ^H2719 after ^H310 them. 15 So they will know ^H3045 that I am Yahweh ^H3068 when I scatter ^H6327 them among the nations ^H1471 and spread ^H2219 them among the countries ^H776. 16 But I will [fn]spare ^H3498 a few ^H4557 of them from sword ^H2719, famine ^H7458, and pestilence ^H1698 that they may recount ^H5608 all ^H3605 their abominations ^H8441 among the nations ^H1471 where ^H834 H8033 they go ^H935, and [fn]may know ^H3045 that I am Yahweh ^H3068.”

17 Moreover, the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me saying ^H559, 18 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, you shall eat ^H398 your bread ^H3899 with trembling ^H7494 and drink ^H8354 your water ^H4325 with quivering ^H7269 and anxiety ^H1674. 19 Then you will say ^H559 to the people ^H5971 of the land ^H776, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068 concerning the inhabitants ^H3427 of Jerusalem ^H3389 in the land ^H127 of Israel ^H3478, “They will eat ^H398 their bread ^H3899 with anxiety ^H1674 and drink ^H8354 their water ^H4325 with desolation ^H8078 because ^H4616 [fn]their very soil ^H776 will be made desolate ^H3456 of its fullness ^H4393 on account ^H6440 of the violence ^H2555 of all ^H3605 who inhabit ^H3427 it. 20 The inhabited ^H3427 cities ^H5892 will be laid ^H2717 waste ^H2717, and the land ^H776 will be a desolation ^H8077. So you will know ^H3045 that I am Yahweh ^H3068.”’”

21 Then the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559, 22 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, what ^H4100 is this ^H2088 proverb ^H4912 you people have concerning ^H5921 the land ^H127 of Israel ^H3478, saying ^H559, ‘The days ^H3117 are long ^H748, and every ^H3605 vision ^H2377 fails ^H6’? 23 Therefore ^H3651 say ^H559 to them, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, “I will make ^H7673 this ^H2088 proverb ^H4912 cease ^H7673 so that they will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 use ^H4911 it as ^H4911 a ^H4911 proverb ^H4911 in Israel ^H3478.” But speak ^H1696 to them, “The days ^H3117 draw ^H7126 near ^H7126 as well as the [fn]fulfillment ^H1697 of every ^H3605 vision ^H2377. 24 For there will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 be any ^H3605 worthless ^H7723 vision ^H2377 or flattering ^H2509 divination ^H4738 in the midst ^H8432 of the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478. 25 For I, Yahweh ^H3068, will speak ^H1696, and whatever ^H834 word ^H1697 I speak ^H1696 will be done ^H6213. It will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 be delayed ^H4900, for in your days ^H3117, O rebellious ^H4805 house ^H1004, I will speak ^H1696 the word ^H1697 and do ^H6213 it,” declares ^H5002 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068.’”

26 Furthermore, the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559, 27 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, behold ^H2009, the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 is saying ^H559, ‘The vision ^H2377 that he beholds ^H2372 is for many ^H7227 [fn]years ^H3117 from now, and he prophesies ^H5012 of times ^H6256 far ^H7350 off ^H7350.’ 28 Therefore ^H3651 say ^H559 to them, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, “None ^H3808 H3605 of My words ^H1697 will be delayed ^H4900 any ^H5750 longer ^H5750. Whatever ^H3605 H834 word ^H1697 I speak ^H1696 will be done ^H6213,”’” declares ^H5002 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068.
