The Offering of Isaac

1 Now it happened ^H1961 after ^H310 these ^H428 things ^H1697, that God ^H430 tested ^H5254 Abraham ^H85 and said ^H559 to him, “Abraham ^H85!” And he said ^H559, “Here ^H2009 I am.”

2 Then He said ^H559, “Take ^H3947 now ^H4994 your son ^H1121, your only ^H3173 one ^H3173, whom ^H834 you love ^H157, Isaac ^H3327, and go ^H1980 forth ^H1980 to the land ^H776 of Moriah ^H4179, and offer ^H5927 him there ^H8033 as a burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 on one ^H259 of the mountains ^H2022 of which ^H834 I will tell ^H559 you.” 3 So Abraham ^H85 rose ^H7925 early ^H7925 in the morning ^H1242 and saddled ^H2280 his donkey ^H2543 and took ^H3947 two ^H8147 of his young ^H5288 men ^H5288 with him and Isaac ^H3327 his son ^H1121; and he split ^H1234 wood ^H6086 for the burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 and arose ^H6965 and went ^H1980 to the place ^H4725 of which ^H834 God ^H430 had told ^H559 him. 4 On the third ^H7992 day ^H3117 Abraham ^H85 lifted ^H5375 up ^H5375 his eyes ^H5869 and saw ^H7200 the place ^H4725 from a distance ^H7350. 5 And Abraham ^H85 said ^H559 to his young ^H5288 men ^H5288, “Stay ^H3427 here ^H6311 with the donkey ^H2543 while I and the boy ^H5288 go ^H1980 over ^H5704 H3541 there ^H5704 H3541; and we will worship ^H2331, and we will return ^H7725 to you.” 6 Then Abraham ^H85 took ^H3947 the wood ^H6086 of the burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 and put ^H7760 it on Isaac ^H3327 his son ^H1121, and he took ^H3947 in his hand ^H3027 the fire ^H784 and the knife ^H3979. 7 Then Isaac ^H3327 spoke ^H559 to Abraham ^H85 his father ^H1 and said ^H559, “My father ^H1!” And he said ^H559, “Here ^H2009 I am, my son ^H1121.” And he said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, the fire ^H784 and the wood ^H6086, but where ^H346 is the lamb ^H7716 for the burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930?” 8 And Abraham ^H85 said ^H559, “God ^H430 will [fn]provide ^H7200 for Himself the lamb ^H7716 for the burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930, my son ^H1121.” So the two ^H8147 of them walked ^H1980 on together ^H3162.

9 Then they came ^H935 to the place ^H4725 of which ^H834 God ^H430 had told ^H559 him; and Abraham ^H85 built ^H1129 the altar ^H4196 there ^H8033 and arranged ^H6186 the wood ^H6086 and bound ^H6123 his son ^H1121 Isaac ^H3327 and put ^H7760 him on the altar ^H4196, on top ^H4605 of the wood ^H6086. 10 And Abraham ^H85 stretched ^H7971 out ^H7971 his hand ^H3027 and took ^H3947 the knife ^H3979 to slay ^H7819 his son ^H1121. 11 But the angel ^H4397 of Yahweh ^H3068 called ^H7121 to him from heaven ^H8064 and said ^H559, “Abraham ^H85, Abraham ^H85!” And he said ^H559, “Here ^H2009 I am.” 12 And He said ^H559, “Do not stretch ^H7971 out ^H7971 your hand ^H3027 against ^H413 the boy ^H5288, and do ^H6213 nothing ^H408 H3972 to him; for now ^H6258 I know ^H3045 that you [fn]fear ^H3372 God ^H430, since you have not withheld ^H2820 your son ^H1121, your only ^H3173 one ^H3173, from Me.” 13 Then Abraham ^H85 lifted ^H5375 up ^H5375 his eyes ^H5869 and saw ^H7200, and behold ^H2009, there was a ram ^H352 after ^H310 it had been caught ^H270 in the thicket ^H5442 by its horns ^H7161; and Abraham ^H85 went ^H1980 and took ^H3947 the ram ^H352 and offered ^H5927 it up ^H5927 for a burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 in ^H8478 the place ^H8478 of ^H8478 his son ^H1121. 14 And Abraham ^H85 called ^H7121 the name ^H8034 of that place ^H4725 [fn]Yahweh ^H3068 Will Provide ^H7200, as it is said ^H559 this day ^H3117, “In the mount ^H2022 of Yahweh ^H3068 it will [fn]be provided ^H7200.”

15 Then the angel ^H4397 of Yahweh ^H3068 called ^H7121 to Abraham ^H85 a second ^H8145 time ^H8145 from heaven ^H8064, 16 and said ^H559, “By Myself I have sworn ^H7650, declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, because ^H3588 H3282 you have done ^H6213 this ^H2088 thing ^H1697 and have not spared ^H2820 your son ^H1121, your only ^H3173 one ^H3173, 17 indeed ^H3588 I will greatly ^H1288 bless ^H1288 you, and I will greatly ^H7235 multiply ^H7235 your seed ^H2233 as the stars ^H3556 of the heavens ^H8064 and as the sand ^H2344 which ^H834 is on the seashore ^H3220 H8193; and your seed ^H2233 shall possess ^H3423 the gate ^H8179 of his enemies ^H340. 18 In your [fn]seed ^H2233 all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471 of the earth ^H776 shall [fn]be blessed ^H1288, because ^H6118 H834 you have listened ^H8085 to My voice ^H6963.” 19 So Abraham ^H85 returned ^H7725 to his young ^H5288 men ^H5288, and they arose ^H6965 and walked ^H1980 together ^H3162 to Beersheba ^H884; and Abraham ^H85 lived ^H3427 at Beersheba ^H884.

20 Now it happened ^H1961 after ^H310 these ^H428 things ^H1697, that it was told ^H5046 to Abraham ^H85, saying ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, Milcah ^H4435 [fn]also ^H1571 has borne ^H3205 children ^H1121 to your brother ^H251 Nahor ^H5152: 21 Uz ^H5780 his firstborn ^H1060 and Buz ^H938 his brother ^H251 and Kemuel ^H7055 the father ^H1 of Aram ^H758 22 and Chesed ^H3777 and Hazo ^H2375 and Pildash ^H6394 and Jidlaph ^H3044 and Bethuel ^H1328.” 23 And Bethuel ^H1328 [fn]was ^H3205 the father ^H3205 of Rebekah ^H7259. These ^H428 eight ^H8083 Milcah ^H4435 bore ^H3205 to Nahor ^H5152, Abraham’s ^H85 brother ^H251. 24 And his concubine ^H6370, whose name ^H8034 was Reumah ^H7208, [fn]also ^H1571 bore ^H3205 Tebah ^H2875 and Gaham ^H1514 and Tahash ^H8477 and Maacah ^H4601.
