Habakkuk Calls for Help

1 The [fn]oracle ^H4853 which ^H834 Habakkuk ^H2265 the prophet ^H5030 beheld ^H2372.

2 How ^H575 long ^H5704, O [fn]Yahweh ^H3068, will I call ^H7768 for ^H7768 help ^H7768,

And You will not hear ^H8085?

I cry ^H2199 out ^H2199 to You, “Violence ^H2555!”

Yet You do not save ^H3467.

3 Why ^H4100 do You make ^H7200 me see ^H7200 wickedness ^H205

And cause me to look ^H5027 on trouble ^H5999?

Indeed, devastation ^H7701 and violence ^H2555 are before ^H5048 me;

And there is ^H1961 strife ^H7379, and contention ^H4066 is lifted ^H5375 up ^H5375.

4 Therefore ^H5921 H3651 the law ^H8451 is [fn]ignored ^H6313,

And justice ^H4941 never ^H3808 H5331 comes ^H3318 forth.

For the wicked ^H7563 surround ^H3803 the righteous ^H6662;

Therefore ^H5921 H3651 justice ^H4941 comes ^H3318 forth perverted ^H6127.

Yahweh Raises the Dreaded Chaldeans

5 “See ^H7200 among the nations ^H1471! And look ^H5027!

Be ^H8539 also astonished ^H8539! Be ^H8539 astounded ^H8539!

Because ^H3588 I am doing ^H6466 something ^H6467 in your days ^H3117—

You would not believe ^H539 if ^H3588 it was recounted ^H5608 to you.

6 “For behold ^H2009, I am raising ^H6965 up ^H6965 the Chaldeans ^H3778,

That bitter ^H4751 and hasty ^H4116 nation ^H1471

Who walks ^H1980 on the breadth ^H4800 of the land ^H776

To possess ^H3423 dwelling ^H4908 places ^H4908 which are not theirs.

7 “They are dreaded ^H366 and feared ^H3372;

Their justice ^H4941 and exaltation ^H7613 come ^H3318 forth ^H3318 from themselves.

Yahweh Has Placed Them to Judge

12 Are You not from everlasting ^H6924,

O Yahweh ^H3068, my God ^H430, my Holy ^H6918 One ^H6918?

We will not die ^H4191.

You, O Yahweh ^H3068, have placed ^H7760 them to judge ^H4941;

And You, O Rock ^H6697, have established ^H3245 them to reprove ^H3198.

13 Your eyes ^H5869 are too ^H4480 pure ^H2889 to see ^H7200 evil ^H7451,

And You cannot ^H3201 look ^H5027 on trouble ^H5999.

Why ^H4100 do You look ^H5027

On those who deal ^H898 treacherously ^H898?

14 And You have made ^H6213 men ^H120 like the fish ^H1709 of the sea ^H3220,

15 The Chaldeans bring ^H5927 all ^H3605 of them up ^H5927 with a hook ^H2443,

Drag ^H1641 them away ^H1641 with their net ^H2764,

And gather ^H622 them together in their fishing ^H4365 net ^H4365.

And continually ^H8548 kill ^H2026 nations ^H1471 without ^H3808 sparing ^H2550?
