Hosea’s Wife and Children
1 The word H1697 of [fn]Yahweh H3068 which H834 came H1961 to Hosea H1954 the son H1121 of Beeri H882, in the days H3117 of Uzziah H5818, Jotham H3147, Ahaz H271, and Hezekiah H2396, kings H4428 of Judah H3063, and in the days H3117 of Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Joash H3060, king H4428 of Israel H3478.
2 When Yahweh H3068 first H8462 spoke H1696 through Hosea H1954, Yahweh H3068 said H559 to Hosea H1954, “Go H1980, take H3947 for yourself a wife H802 of harlotry H2183 and have children H3206 of harlotry H2183; for the land H776 commits H2181 flagrant H2181 harlotry H2181, [fn]forsaking H4480 H310 Yahweh H3068.”
3 So he went H1980 and took H3947 Gomer H1586 the daughter H1323 of Diblaim H1691, and she conceived H2029 and gave H3205 birth H3205 to a son H1121 for him. 4 And Yahweh H3068 said H559 to him, “Name H7121 H8034 him Jezreel H3157; for yet H5750 a little H4592 while H4592, and I will visit H6485 the bloodshed H1818 of Jezreel H3157 upon the house H1004 of Jehu H3058, and I will cause the kingdom H4468 of the house H1004 of Israel H3478 to H7673 cease H7673. 5 And it will be in that day H3117, that I will break H7665 the bow H7198 of Israel H3478 in H7665 the valley H6010 of Jezreel H3157.”
6 Then she conceived H2029 again H5750 and gave H3205 birth H3205 to a daughter H1323. And [fn]Yahweh said H559 to him, “Name H7121 H8034 her [fn]Lo-ruhamah H3819, for I will no H3808 longer H3254 H5750 have H7355 compassion H7355 on H7355 the house H1004 of Israel H3478, that I would ever H5375 forgive H5375 them. 7 But I will have H7355 compassion H7355 on H7355 the house H1004 of Judah H3063 and save H3467 them by Yahweh H3068 their God H430, and I will not save H3467 them by bow H7198, sword H2719, battle H4421, horses H5483, or horsemen H6571.”
8 Then she weaned H1580 Lo-ruhamah H3819. And she conceived H2029 and gave H3205 birth H3205 to a son H1121. 9 And [fn]Yahweh said H559, “Name H7121 H8034 him [fn]Lo-ammi H3818, for you are not My people H5971, and I am not [fn]your God.”
10 [fn]Yet the number H4557 of the sons H1121 of Israel H3478
Will be like the sand H2344 of the sea H3220,
Which H834 cannot H3808 be measured H4058 or numbered H5608;
And it will be that in the place H4725
Where H834 it is said H559 to them,
“You are not My people H5971,”
It will be said H559 to them,
“You are the sons H1121 of the living H2416 God H410.”
11 And the sons H1121 of Judah H3063 and the sons H1121 of Israel H3478 will be gathered H6908 together H3162,
And they will set H7760 for themselves one H259 head H7218,
