1 Woe ^H1945 to those who enact ^H2710 evil ^H205 statutes ^H2706

And to those who constantly record ^H3789 [fn]mischief ^H5999,

2 So as to turn ^H5186 the poor ^H1800 away ^H5186 from their cause ^H1779

And rob ^H1497 the afflicted ^H6041 of My people ^H5971 of their justice ^H4941,

So that widows ^H490 may be their spoil ^H7998

And that they may plunder ^H962 the [fn]orphans ^H3490.

3 Now what ^H4100 will you do ^H6213 in the day ^H3117 of visitation ^H6486,

And in the devastation ^H7722 which will come ^H935 from afar ^H4801?

To whom ^H4310 will you flee ^H5127 for help ^H5833?

And where ^H575 will you leave ^H5800 your [fn]glory ^H3519?

4 Nothing ^H1115 remains but to crouch ^H3766 [fn]among ^H8478 the captives ^H616

Or fall ^H5307 [fn]among ^H8478 those killed ^H2026.

In spite of all ^H3605 this ^H2088, His anger ^H639 does not turn ^H7725 back ^H7725

And His hand ^H3027 is still ^H5750 stretched ^H5186 out ^H5186.

Yahweh’s Anger with Assyria’s Arrogance

5 Woe ^H1945 to Assyria ^H804, the rod ^H7626 of My anger ^H639

And the staff ^H4294 in whose hands ^H3027 is My indignation ^H2195,

6 I send ^H7971 it against a godless ^H2611 nation ^H1471

And command ^H6680 it against ^H5921 the people ^H5971 of My fury ^H5678

To capture ^H7997 spoil ^H7998 and to seize ^H962 plunder ^H957,

And to [fn]trample ^H4823 them down ^H4823 like mud ^H2563 in the streets ^H2351.

7 But it does not intend ^H1819 to act in this way ^H3651,

And ^H3808 it does not think ^H2803 in its heart ^H3824 in this way ^H3651,

Rather ^H3588, what is in its heart ^H3824 is to destroy ^H8045

And to cut ^H3772 off ^H3772 [fn]many ^H3808 H4592 nations ^H1471.

8 For it says ^H559, “Are not my princes ^H8269 [fn]all ^H3162 kings ^H4428?

9 “Is not Calno ^H3641 like Carchemish ^H3751,

Or ^H518 Hamath ^H2574 like Arpad ^H774,

Or ^H518 Samaria ^H8111 like Damascus ^H1834?

10 “As my hand ^H3027 has reached ^H4672 to the kingdoms ^H4467 of the idols ^H457,

Whose graven ^H6456 images ^H6456 were greater than ^H4480 those of Jerusalem ^H3389 and Samaria ^H8111,

11 Shall I not [fn]do ^H6213 to Jerusalem ^H3389 and her images ^H6091

Just ^H834 as I have done ^H6213 to Samaria ^H8111 and her idols ^H457?”

12 So it will be that when ^H3588 the Lord ^H136 has completed ^H1214 all ^H3605 His work ^H4639 on Mount ^H2022 Zion ^H6726 and on Jerusalem ^H3389, He will say, “I will [fn]punish ^H6485 the fruit ^H6529 of the arrogant ^H1433 heart ^H3824 of the king ^H4428 of Assyria ^H804 and the pomp ^H8597 of his eyes ^H5869 which are raised ^H7312 high ^H7312.”

13 For he has said ^H559,

“By the power ^H3581 of my hand ^H3027 and by my wisdom ^H2451 I did ^H6213 this,

For I have ^H995 understanding ^H995;

And I removed ^H5493 the boundaries ^H1367 of the peoples ^H5971

And plundered ^H8154 their treasures ^H6264,

And like a mighty ^H3524 man ^H47 I brought ^H3381 down ^H3381 [fn]their inhabitants ^H3427,

14 And my hand ^H3027 reached ^H4672 for the wealth ^H2428 of the peoples ^H5971 like a nest ^H7064,

And as one gathers ^H622 abandoned ^H5800 eggs ^H1000, I gathered ^H622 all ^H3605 the earth ^H776;

And there was not one that flapped ^H5074 its wing ^H3671 or opened ^H6475 its beak ^H6310 or chirped ^H6850.”

15 Is the axe ^H1631 to boast ^H6286 itself over ^H5921 the one who chops ^H2672 with it?

Is the saw ^H4883 to magnify ^H1431 itself over ^H5921 the one who wields ^H5130 it?

That would be like a rod ^H7626 wielding ^H5130 those who lift ^H7311 it,

Or like a staff ^H4294 lifting ^H7311 him who is not wood ^H6086.

16 Therefore ^H3651 the Lord ^H136, Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, will send ^H7971 a wasting ^H7332 disease ^H7332 among his stout ^H4924 warriors ^H4924;

And under ^H8478 his glory ^H3519 a fire ^H3350 will be kindled ^H3344 like a burning ^H3350 flame ^H784.

17 And the light ^H216 of Israel ^H3478 will become ^H1961 a fire ^H784 and his Holy ^H6918 One ^H6918 a flame ^H3852,

And it will burn ^H1197 and devour ^H398 his thorns ^H7898 and his briars ^H8068 in a single ^H259 day ^H3117.

18 And He will bring ^H3615 to ^H3615 an ^H3615 end ^H3615 the glory ^H3519 of his forest ^H3293 and of his fruitful ^H3759 orchard ^H3759, both ^H4480 soul ^H5315 and body ^H1320,

And it will be as when a sick ^H5263 man ^H5263 wastes ^H4549 away ^H4549.

19 And the rest ^H7605 of the trees ^H6086 of his forest ^H3293 will be so small in number ^H4557

That a child ^H5288 could write ^H3789 them down ^H3789.

A Remnant Will Return

20 Now it will be in that day ^H3117, that the remnant ^H7605 of Israel ^H3478 and those of the house ^H1004 of Jacob ^H3290 who ^H6413 have escaped ^H6413, will never ^H3808 again ^H3254 rely ^H8172 on the one who struck ^H5221 them, but will truly ^H571 rely ^H8172 on Yahweh ^H3068, the Holy ^H6918 One ^H6918 of Israel ^H3478.

21 A remnant ^H7605 will return ^H7725, the remnant ^H7605 of Jacob ^H3290, to the mighty ^H1368 God ^H410.

22 For though ^H518 your people ^H5971, O Israel ^H3478, may be like the sand ^H2344 of the sea ^H3220,

Only a remnant ^H7605 within them will return ^H7725;

A destructive end ^H3631 is decreed ^H2782, overflowing ^H7857 with righteousness ^H6666.

23 For a complete ^H3617 destruction ^H3617, one that is decreed ^H2782, Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 will do ^H6213 in the midst ^H7130 of the whole ^H3605 land ^H776.

24 Therefore ^H3651 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, “O My people ^H5971 who inhabit ^H3427 Zion ^H6726, do not fear ^H3372 the Assyrian ^H804 [fn]who strikes ^H5221 you with the rod ^H7626 and lifts ^H5375 up ^H5375 his staff ^H4294 against ^H5921 you, the way ^H1870 Egypt ^H4714 did.

25 For in a very ^H4213 little ^H4592 while ^H5750 My indignation ^H2195 against you will end ^H3615 and My anger ^H639 will be directed to their destruction ^H8399.” 26 And Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 will waken ^H5782 a scourge ^H7752 against ^H5921 him like the slaughter ^H4347 of Midian ^H4080 at the rock ^H6697 of Oreb ^H6159; and His staff ^H4294 will be over ^H5921 the sea ^H3220 and He will lift ^H5375 it up ^H5375 the way ^H1870 He did in Egypt ^H4714. 27 So it will be in that day ^H3117, that [fn]his burden ^H5448 will be removed ^H5493 from your shoulders ^H7926 and his yoke ^H5923 from your neck ^H6677, and the yoke ^H5923 will be broken ^H2254 because ^H4480 H6440 of fatness ^H8081.

28 He has come ^H935 against ^H5921 Aiath ^H5857,

He has passed ^H5674 through Migron ^H4051;

At Michmash ^H4363 he deposited ^H6485 his baggage ^H3627.

29 They have gone ^H5674 through ^H5674 the pass ^H4569, saying,

“Geba ^H1387 will be our lodging ^H4411 place ^H4411.”

Ramah ^H7414 trembles ^H2729, and Gibeah ^H1390 of Saul ^H7586 has fled ^H5127 away.

30 Cry ^H6670 aloud ^H6670 with your voice ^H6963, O daughter ^H1323 of Gallim ^H1554!

Pay ^H7181 attention ^H7181, Laishah ^H3919 and [fn]afflicted ^H6041 Anathoth ^H6068!

31 Madmenah ^H4088 has fled ^H5074.

The inhabitants ^H3427 of Gebim ^H1374 have sought ^H5756 refuge ^H5756.

32 Yet ^H5750 today ^H3117 he will stand ^H5975 at Nob ^H5011;

He shakes ^H5130 his fist ^H3027 at the mountain ^H2022 of the [fn]daughter ^H1323 of Zion ^H6726, the hill ^H1389 of Jerusalem ^H3389.

33 Behold ^H2009, the Lord ^H113, Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, will lop ^H5586 off ^H5586 the boughs ^H6288 with a terrible ^H4637 crash ^H4637;

Those also who are high ^H7311 in stature ^H6967 will be cut ^H1438 in ^H1438 pieces ^H1438

And those who are lofty ^H1364 will be made low ^H8213.

34 He will cut ^H5362 down ^H5362 the thickets ^H5442 of the forest ^H3293 with an iron ^H1270 axe,

And Lebanon ^H3844 will fall ^H5307 [fn]by the Mighty ^H117 One ^H117.
