Yahweh Sends Jeremiah the Prophet

1 The words ^H1697 of Jeremiah ^H3414 the son ^H1121 of Hilkiah ^H2518, of the priests ^H3548 who ^H834 were in Anathoth ^H6068 in the land ^H776 of Benjamin ^H1144,

2 to whom ^H834 the word ^H1697 of [fn]Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 in the days ^H3117 of Josiah ^H2977 the son ^H1121 of Amon ^H526, king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, in the thirteenth ^H7969 H6240 year ^H8141 of his reign ^H4427. 3 And it came ^H1961 in the days ^H3117 of Jehoiakim ^H3079 the son ^H1121 of Josiah ^H2977, king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, until ^H5704 the end ^H8552 of the eleventh ^H6249 H6240 year ^H8141 of Zedekiah ^H6667 the son ^H1121 of Josiah ^H2977, king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, until ^H5704 the exile ^H1540 of Jerusalem ^H3389 in the fifth ^H2549 month ^H2320.

4 Now the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me saying ^H559,

5 “Before ^H2962 I formed ^H3335 you in the [fn]innermost ^H990 parts ^H990 I knew ^H3045 you,

And before ^H2962 you came ^H3318 out ^H3318 from the womb ^H7358 I set ^H6942 you apart ^H6942;

I have given ^H5414 you as a prophet ^H5030 to the nations ^H1471.”

6 Then I said ^H559, “Alas ^H162, Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068!

Behold ^H2009, I do not know ^H3045 how to speak ^H1696

Because ^H3588 I am a youth ^H5288.”

7 But Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me,

“Do not say ^H559, ‘I am a youth ^H5288,’

Because ^H3588 everywhere ^{H5921 H3605 H834} I send ^H7971 you, you shall go ^H1980,

And all ^H3605 that I command ^H6680 you, you shall speak ^H1696.

8 “Do not be ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 of them,

For I am with you to deliver ^H5337 you,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.

9 Then Yahweh ^H3068 sent ^H7971 forth His hand ^H3027 and touched ^H5060 my mouth ^H6310, and Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me,

“Behold ^H2009, I have put ^H5414 My words ^H1697 in your mouth ^H6310.

10 “See ^H7200, I have appointed ^H6485 you this ^H2088 day ^H3117 over ^H5921 the nations ^H1471 and over ^H5921 the kingdoms ^H4467,

To uproot ^H5428 and to tear ^H5422 down ^H5422,

To cause ^H6 to perish ^H6 and to pull ^H2040 down ^H2040,

To build ^H1129 and to plant ^H5193.”

The Almond Rod and Boiling Pot

11 Now the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me saying ^H559, “What ^H4100 do you see ^H7200, Jeremiah ^H3414?” And I said ^H559, “I see ^H7200 a rod ^H4731 of an [fn]almond ^H8247 tree ^H8247.”

12 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “You have seen ^H7200 well ^H3190, for I am [fn]watching ^H8245 over ^H5921 My word ^H1697 to do ^H6213 it.”

13 The word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me a second ^H8145 time ^H8145 saying ^H559, “What ^H4100 do you see ^H7200?” And I said ^H559, “I see ^H7200 a boiling ^H5301 pot ^H5518, facing ^H6440 away from the north ^H6828.” 14 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “From the north ^H6828 the evil ^H7451 [fn]will break ^H6605 open ^H6605 on all ^H3605 the inhabitants ^H3427 of the land ^H776. 15 For, behold ^H2009, I am calling ^H7121 all ^H3605 the families ^H4940 of the kingdoms ^H4467 of the north ^H6828,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068; “and they will come ^H935, and each ^H376 one ^H376 of them will put ^H5414 his throne ^H3678 at the opening ^H6607 of the gates ^H8179 of Jerusalem ^H3389, and against ^H5921 all ^H3605 its walls ^H2346 round ^H5439 about ^H5439 and against ^H5921 all ^H3605 the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063. 16 I will speak ^H1696 My judgments ^H4941 on them concerning ^H5921 all ^H3605 their evil ^H7451, whereby ^H834 they have forsaken ^H5800 Me and have burned ^H6999 incense ^H6999 to other ^H312 gods ^H430 and worshiped ^H2331 the works ^H4639 of their own hands ^H3027. 17 Now, gird ^H247 up your loins ^H4975 and arise ^H6965 and speak ^H1696 to them all ^H3605 which ^H834 I command ^H6680 you. Do not be dismayed ^H2865 before ^H4480 H6440 them, lest ^H6435 I dismay ^H2865 you before ^H6440 them. 18 Now behold ^H2009, I have given ^H5414 you today ^H3117 as a fortified ^H4013 city ^H5892 and as a pillar ^H5982 of iron ^H1270 and as walls ^H2346 of bronze ^H5178 against ^H5921 the whole ^H3605 land ^H776, to the kings ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, to its princes ^H8269, to its priests ^H3548, and to the people ^H5971 of the land ^H776. 19 And they will fight ^H3898 against ^H413 you, but they will not overcome ^H3201 you, for I am with you to deliver ^H5337 you,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.
