Yahweh Alone Is the Living God

1 Hear ^H8085 the word ^H1697 which ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 speaks ^H1696 to you, O house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478.

2 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068,

“Do not learn ^H3925 the way ^H1870 of the nations ^H1471,

And do not be terrified ^H2865 by the signs ^H226 of the heavens ^H8064

Although ^H3588 the nations ^H1471 are terrified ^H2865 by them;

3 For the statutes ^H2708 of the peoples ^H5971 are vanity ^H1892

Because ^H3588 it is wood ^H6086 cut ^H3772 from the forest ^H3293,

The work ^H4639 of the hands ^H3027 of a craftsman ^H2796 with a cutting ^H4621 tool ^H4621.

4 “They make ^H3302 it beautiful ^H3302 with silver ^H3701 and with gold ^H2091;

They strengthen ^H2388 it with nails ^H4548 and with hammers ^H4717

So that it will not totter ^H6328.

5 “Like a scarecrow ^H8560 in a cucumber ^H4750 field ^H4750 are they,

And they cannot ^H3808 speak ^H1696;

They must ^H5375 be carried ^H5375

Because ^H3588 they cannot ^H3808 take ^H6805 a step ^H6805!

Do not fear ^H3372 them,

For they can do ^H7489 no ^H3808 harm ^H7489,

Nor ^H1571 H369 can they do ^H3190 any ^H1571 good ^H3190.”

6 There ^H369 is ^H369 none ^H369 like ^H3644 You, O Yahweh ^H3068;

You are great ^H1419, and great ^H1419 is Your name ^H8034 in might ^H1369.

7 Who ^H4310 would not fear ^H3372 You, O King ^H4428 of the nations ^H1471?

Indeed ^H3588 it is Your due ^H2969!

For among all ^H3605 the wise ^H2450 men ^H2450 of the nations ^H1471

And in all ^H3605 their kingdoms ^H4438,

There ^H369 is ^H369 none ^H369 like ^H3644 You.

8 But they are ^H1197 altogether ^H259 senseless ^H1197 and foolish ^H3688;

They are in a discipline ^H4148 of [fn]vanities ^H1892—it is mere wood ^H6086!

9 Beaten ^H7554 silver ^H3701 is brought ^H935 from Tarshish ^H8659,

And gold ^H2091 from Uphaz ^H210,

The work ^H4639 of a craftsman ^H2796 and of the hands ^H3027 of a goldsmith ^H6884;

Blue ^H8504 and purple ^H713 are their clothing ^H3830;

They are all ^H3605 the work ^H4639 of wise ^H2450 craftsmen.

10 But Yahweh ^H3068 is the true ^H571 God ^H430;

He is the living ^H2416 God ^H430 and the everlasting ^H5769 King ^H4428.

At His wrath ^H7110 the earth ^H776 quakes ^H7493,

And the nations ^H1471 cannot ^H3808 endure ^H3557 His indignation ^H2195.

11 [fn]Thus ^H1836 you shall say ^H560 to them, “The gods ^H426 that did not make ^H5648 the heavens ^H8065 and the earth ^H778 will perish ^H7 from the earth ^H778 and from under ^H8460 [fn]the heavens ^H8065.”

12 It is He who made ^H6213 the earth ^H776 by His power ^H3581,

Who established ^H3559 the world ^H8398 by His wisdom ^H2451;

And by His understanding ^H8394 He has stretched ^H5186 out ^H5186 the heavens ^H8064.

13 When He gives ^H5414 forth His voice ^H6963, there is a tumult ^H1995 of waters ^H4325 in the heavens ^H8064,

And He causes the clouds ^H5387 to ascend ^H5927 from the end ^H7097 of the earth ^H776;

He makes ^H6213 lightning ^H1300 for the rain ^H4306,

And brings ^H3318 out ^H3318 the wind ^H7307 from His storehouses ^H214.

14 Every ^H3605 man ^H120 is ^H1197 senseless ^H1197, devoid ^H4480 of knowledge ^H1847;

Every ^H3605 goldsmith ^H6884 is put ^H954 to ^H954 shame ^H954 by his graven ^H6459 images ^H6459;

For his molten ^H5262 images ^H5262 are a lie ^H8267,

And there is no ^H3808 breath ^H7307 in them.

15 They are vanity ^H1892, a work ^H4639 of mockery ^H8595;

In the time ^H6256 of their punishment ^H6486 they will perish ^H6.

16 The portion ^H2506 of Jacob ^H3290 is not like these ^H428;

For the [fn]Maker ^H3335 of all ^H3605 is He,

And Israel ^H3478 is the tribe ^H7626 of His inheritance ^H5159;

Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 is His name ^H8034.

17 Gather ^H622 up ^H622 your bundle ^H3666 from the ground ^H776,

You who inhabit ^H3427 a land under siege ^H4692! 18 For thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068,

“Behold ^H2009, I am slinging ^H7049 out ^H7049 the inhabitants ^H3427 of the land ^H776

At this ^H2088 time ^H6471,

And will cause ^H6887 them distress ^H6887,

That they may find ^H4672 it.”

19 Woe ^H188 is me, because ^H5921 of my [fn]injury ^H7667!

My wound ^H4347 is desperately ^H2470 sick ^H2470.

But I said ^H559, “Truly ^H389 this ^H2088 is a sickness ^H2483,

And I must bear ^H5375 it.”

20 My tent ^H168 is destroyed ^H7703,

And all ^H3605 my ropes ^H4340 are torn ^H5423 out ^H5423;

My sons ^H1121 have gone ^H3318 from me and are no ^H369 more ^H369.

There ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 one ^H369 to stretch ^H5186 out ^H5186 my tent ^H168 again ^H5750

Or to set ^H6965 up ^H6965 my curtains ^H3407.

21 For the shepherds ^H7462 have become ^H1197 senseless ^H1197

And have not sought ^H1875 Yahweh ^H3068;

Therefore ^H5921 H3651 they have not prospered ^H7919,

And all ^H3605 their flock ^H4830 is scattered ^H6327.

22 The sound ^H6963 of a report ^H8052! Behold ^H2009, it comes ^H935—

A great ^H1419 quaking ^H7494 out of the land ^H776 of the north ^H6828—

To make ^H7760 the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063

A desolation ^H8077, a haunt ^H4583 of jackals ^H8565.

23 I know ^H3045, O Yahweh ^H3068, that a man’s ^H120 way ^H1870 is not in himself ^H376,

Nor ^H3808 is it in a man ^H376 who walks ^H1980 to [fn]direct ^H3559 his steps ^H6806.

24 Discipline ^H3256 me, O Yahweh ^H3068, but with justice ^H4941;

Not with Your anger ^H639, lest ^H6435 You [fn]bring ^H4591 me to ^H4591 nothing ^H4591.

25 Pour ^H8210 out ^H8210 Your wrath ^H2534 on the nations ^H1471 that do not know ^H3045 You

And on the families ^H4940 that do not call ^H7121 Your name ^H8034,

For they have devoured ^H398 Jacob ^H3290;

They have devoured ^H398 him and consumed ^H3615 him

And have made ^H8074 desolate ^H8074 his [fn]abode ^H5116.
