Yahweh’s Warning from the Temple Gate

1 The word ^H1697 that came ^H1961 to Jeremiah ^H3414 from Yahweh ^H3068, saying ^H559,

2 “Stand ^H5975 in the gate ^H8179 of the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068, and you shall call ^H7121 out ^H7121 there ^H8033 this ^H2088 word ^H1697, and you shall say ^H559, ‘Hear ^H8085 the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068, all ^H3605 you of Judah ^H3063, who enter ^H935 by these ^H428 gates ^H8179 to worship ^H2331 Yahweh ^H3068!’” 3 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, “Make ^H3190 your ways ^H1870 and your deeds ^H4611 good ^H3190, and I will let you dwell ^H7931 in this ^H2088 place ^H4725. 4 Do not trust ^H982 in lying ^H8267 words ^H1697, saying ^H559, ‘[fn]This ^H1992 is the temple ^H1964 of Yahweh ^H3068, the temple ^H1964 of Yahweh ^H3068, the temple ^H1964 of Yahweh ^H3068.’ 5 For if ^H518 you truly ^H3190 make ^H3190 your ways ^H1870 and your deeds ^H4611 good ^H3190, if ^H518 you truly ^H6213 do ^H6213 justice ^H4941 between ^H996 a man ^H376 and his neighbor ^H7453, 6 if you do not oppress ^H6231 the sojourner ^H1616, the [fn]orphan ^H3490, or the widow ^H490, and do not shed ^H8210 innocent ^H5355 blood ^H1818 in this ^H2088 place ^H4725, nor ^H3808 walk ^H1980 after ^H310 other ^H312 gods ^H430 to your own evil ^H7451 demise, 7 then I will let you dwell ^H7931 in this ^H2088 place ^H4725, in the land ^H776 that I gave ^H5414 to your fathers ^H1 forever ^H4480 H5769 and ever ^H5769.

8 “Behold ^H2009, you are trusting ^H982 in lying ^H8267 words ^H1697 to no ^H1115 avail ^H3276. 9 Will you steal ^H1589, murder ^H7523, and commit ^H5003 adultery ^H5003 and swear ^H7650 while lying ^H8267, and burn ^H6999 incense ^H6999 to Baal ^H1168 and walk ^H1980 after ^H310 other ^H312 gods ^H430 that you have not known ^H3045, 10 then come ^H935 and stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 Me in this ^H2088 house ^H1004, which ^H834 is called ^H7121 by My name ^H8034, and say ^H559, ‘We are delivered ^H5337!’—that you may do ^H6213 all ^H3605 these ^H428 abominations ^H8441? 11 Has this ^H2088 house ^H1004, which ^H834 is called ^H7121 by My name ^H8034, become ^H1961 a robbers’ ^H6530 den ^H4631 in your sight ^H5869? 16 “As for you, do not pray ^H6419 for this ^H2088 people ^H5971 and do not lift ^H5375 up ^H5375 a cry ^H7440 of lamentation ^H7440 or prayer ^H8605 for them and do not intercede ^H6293 with Me, for I am not hearing ^H8085 you. 17 Are you not seeing ^H7200 what ^H4100 they are doing ^H6213 in the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063 and in the streets ^H2351 of Jerusalem ^H3389? 18 The [fn]children ^H1121 gather ^H3950 wood ^H6086, and the fathers ^H1 make ^H1197 the fire ^H784 burn ^H1197, and the women ^H802 knead ^H3888 dough ^H1217 to make ^H6213 cakes ^H3561 for the queen ^H4446 of heaven ^H8064; and they pour ^H5258 out ^H5258 drink ^H5262 offerings ^H5262 to other ^H312 gods ^H430 in order ^H4616 to provoke ^H3707 Me. 19 Do they provoke ^H3707 Me?” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068. “Is it not themselves they provoke to the shame of their own face ^H6440?” 20 Therefore ^H3651 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, “Behold ^H2009, My anger ^H639 and My wrath ^H2534 will be poured ^H5413 out ^H5413 on this ^H2088 place ^H4725, on man ^H120 and on beast ^H929 and on the trees ^H6086 of the field ^H7704 and on the fruit ^H6529 of the ground ^H127; and it will burn ^H1197 and not be quenched ^H3518.”

21 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, “Add ^H3254 your burnt ^H5930 offerings ^H5930 to your sacrifices ^H2077 and eat ^H398 flesh ^H1320. 22 For I did not speak ^H1696 to your fathers ^H1 or command ^H6680 them in the day ^H3117 that I brought ^H3318 them out ^H3318 of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 concerning ^H5921 H1697 burnt ^H5930 offerings ^H5930 and sacrifices ^H2077. 23 But this ^H2088 is [fn]what ^H1697 I commanded ^H6680 them, saying ^H559, ‘Listen ^H8085 to My voice ^H6963, and I will be your God ^H430, and you will be My people ^H5971; and you will walk ^H1980 in the entire ^H3605 way ^H1870 which ^H834 I command ^H6680 you, that it may be well ^H3190 with you.’ 24 Yet they did not listen ^H8085 or incline ^H5186 their ear ^H241, but walked ^H1980 in their own counsels ^H4156 and in the stubbornness ^H8307 of their evil ^H7451 heart ^H3820 and [fn]went ^H1961 backward ^H268 and not forward ^H6440. 25 Since ^H4480 the day ^H3117 that your fathers ^H1 came ^H3318 out ^H3318 of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 until ^H5704 this ^H2088 day ^H3117, I have sent ^H7971 you all ^H3605 My slaves ^H5650 the prophets ^H5030, daily ^H3117 rising ^H7925 up ^H7925 early ^H7925 and sending ^H7971 them. 26 Yet they did not listen ^H8085 to Me or incline ^H5186 their ear ^H241, but stiffened ^H7185 their neck ^H6203; they did ^H7489 more ^H4480 evil ^H7489 than ^H4480 their fathers ^H1.

27 “You shall speak ^H1696 all ^H3605 these ^H428 words ^H1697 to them, but they will not listen ^H8085 to you; and you shall call ^H7121 to them, but they will not answer ^H6030 you. 28 You shall say ^H559 to them, ‘This ^H2088 is the nation ^H1471 that did not listen ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of Yahweh ^H3068 their God ^H430 or receive ^H3947 discipline ^H4148; [fn]truth ^H530 has perished ^H6 and has been cut ^H3772 off ^H3772 from their mouth ^H6310.

29 ‘Cut ^H1494 off ^H1494 [fn]your hair ^H5145 and cast ^H7993 it away ^H7993,

And lift ^H5375 up ^H5375 a funeral lamentation ^H7015 on the bare ^H8205 heights ^H8205;

For Yahweh ^H3068 has rejected ^H3988 and abandoned ^H5203

The generation ^H1755 of His wrath ^H5678.’

30 For the sons ^H1121 of Judah ^H3063 have done ^H6213 that which ^H7451 is ^H7451 evil ^H7451 in My sight ^H5869,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “they have set ^H7760 their detestable ^H8251 things ^H8251 in the house ^H1004, which ^H834 is called ^H7121 by My name ^H8034, to defile ^H2930 it. 31 They have built ^H1129 the high ^H1116 places ^H1116 of Topheth ^H8612, which ^H834 is in the valley ^H1516 of the son ^H1121 of Hinnom ^H2011, to burn ^H8313 their sons ^H1121 and their daughters ^H1323 in the fire ^H784, which ^H834 I did not command ^H6680, and it did not come ^H5927 upon My heart ^H3820.

32 “Therefore ^H3651, behold ^H2009, days ^H3117 are coming ^H935,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “when it will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 be called ^H559 Topheth ^H8612 or the valley ^H1516 of the son ^H1121 of Hinnom ^H2011, but the valley ^H1516 of the Slaughter ^H2028; for they will bury ^H6912 in Topheth ^H8612 [fn]because ^H4480 there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 other place ^H4725. 33 The dead ^H5038 bodies ^H5038 of this ^H2088 people ^H5971 will be food ^H3978 for the birds ^H5775 of the sky ^H8064 and for the beasts ^H929 of the earth ^H776; and no ^H369 one ^H369 will frighten ^H2729 them away. 34 Then I will make to cease ^H7673 from the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063 and from the streets ^H2351 of Jerusalem ^H3389 the voice ^H6963 of joy ^H8342 and the voice ^H6963 of gladness ^H8057, the voice ^H6963 of the bridegroom ^H2860 and the voice ^H6963 of the bride ^H3618, for the land ^H776 will become ^H1961 a waste ^H2723 place ^H2723.
