The Lord’s Supper

1 Now ^G1161 before ^G4253 the Feast ^G1859 of the Passover ^G3957, Jesus ^G2424 knowing ^G6063 that His hour ^G5610 had come ^G2064 that He would depart ^G3327 out of this ^G3778 world ^G2889 to the Father ^G3962, having loved ^G25 His own ^G2398 who ^G3588 were in the world ^G2889, He loved ^G25 them [fn]to the end ^G5056.

2 And during ^G1096 supper ^G1173, the devil ^G1228 having already ^G2235 put ^G906 into the heart ^G2588 of Judas ^G2455 Iscariot ^G2469, the son of Simon ^G4613, to betray ^G3860 Him, 3 Jesus, knowing ^G6063 that the Father ^G3962 had given ^G1325 all ^G3956 things ^G3956 into His hands ^G5495, and that He had come ^G1831 forth ^G1831 from God ^G2316 and was going ^G5217 back ^G5217 to God ^G2316, 4 *got ^G1453 up ^G1453 from supper ^G1173, and *laid ^G5087 aside ^G5087 His garments ^G2440; and taking ^G2983 a towel ^G3012, He tied ^G1241 it around ^G1241 Himself ^G1438.

Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet

5 Then ^G1534 He *poured ^G906 water ^G5204 into the washbasin ^G3537, and began ^G757 to wash ^G3538 the disciples’ ^G3101 feet ^G4228 and to wipe ^G1591 them with the towel ^G3012 which ^G3739 He had tied ^G1241 around ^G1241 Himself. 6 So ^G3767 He *came ^G2064 to Simon ^G4613 Peter ^G4074. He *said ^G3004 to Him, “Lord ^G2962, are You going to wash ^G3538 my feet ^G4228?” 7 Jesus ^G2424 answered ^G611 and said ^G3004 to him, “What ^G3739 I am doing ^G4160 you do not realize ^G6063 now ^G737, but you will understand ^G1097 afterwards ^G3326 G3778.” 8 Peter ^G4074 *said ^G3004 to Him, “You will never ^G3756 G3361 wash ^G3538 my feet ^G4228—ever ^{G1519 G3588 G165}!” Jesus ^G2424 answered ^G611 him, “If ^G1437 I do not wash ^G3538 you, you have ^G2192 no ^G3756 part ^G3313 with Me.” 9 Simon ^G4613 Peter ^G4074 *said ^G3004 to Him, “Lord ^G2962, not only ^G3440 my feet ^G4228, but also ^G2532 my hands ^G5495 and my head ^G2776.” 10 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to him, “He who has bathed ^G3068 needs ^G5532 only ^{G3756 G1487 G3361} to wash ^G3538 his feet ^G4228, but is completely ^G3650 clean ^G2513; and you are clean ^G2513, but not all ^G3956 of you.” 11 For He knew ^G6063 the one who was betraying ^G3860 Him; for this ^G3778 reason ^G1223 He said ^G3004, “Not all ^G3956 of you are clean ^G2513.”

12 So ^G3767 when ^G3753 He had washed ^G3538 their feet ^G4228, and taken ^G2983 His garments ^G2440 and reclined ^G377 at the table again ^G3825, He said ^G3004 to them, “Do you know ^G1097 what ^G5101 I have done ^G4160 to you? 13 You call ^G5455 Me Teacher ^G1320 and Lord ^G2962; and [fn]you are right ^G2573, for so I am ^G1510. 14 If ^G1487 I then ^G3767, the Lord ^G2962 and the Teacher ^G1320, washed ^G3538 your feet ^G4228, you also ^G2532 ought ^G3784 to wash ^G3538 one ^G240 another’s ^G240 feet ^G4228. 15 For I gave ^G1325 you an example ^G5262 that you also ^G2532 should do ^G4160 as I did ^G4160 to you. 16 Truly ^G281, truly ^G281, I say ^G3004 to you, a slave ^G1401 is not greater ^G3173 than his master ^G2962, nor ^G3761 is one ^G652 who is sent ^G652 greater ^G3173 than the one who sent ^G3992 him. 17 If ^G1487 you know ^G6063 these ^G3778 things ^G3778, you are blessed ^G3107 if ^G1437 you do ^G4160 them. 18 I do not speak ^G3004 about all ^G3956 of you. Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

21 When Jesus ^G2424 had said ^G3004 these ^G3778 things ^G3778, He became troubled ^G5015 in spirit ^G4151, and bore ^G3140 witness ^G3140 and said ^G3004, “Truly ^G281, truly ^G281, I say ^G3004 to you, that one ^G1520 of you will [fn]betray ^G3860 Me.”

22 The disciples ^G3101 began looking ^G991 at one ^G240 another ^G240, perplexed ^G639 about whom ^G5101 He *spoke ^G3004. 23 There was reclining ^G345 on Jesus’ ^G2424 bosom ^G2859 one ^G1520 of His disciples ^G3101, whom ^G3739 Jesus ^G2424 loved ^G25. 24 So ^G3767 Simon ^G4613 Peter ^G4074 *gestured ^G3506 to him to inquire ^G4441, “Who ^G5101 is the one of whom ^G3739 He is speaking ^G3004?” 25 He, leaning ^G377 back ^G377 thus ^G3779 on Jesus’ ^G2424 bosom ^G4738, *said ^G3004 to Him, “Lord ^G2962, who ^G5101 is it?” 26 Jesus ^G2424 *answered ^G611, “He is the one for whom ^G3739 I shall dip ^G911 the piece ^G5596 of bread ^G5596 and give ^G1325 it to him.” So ^G3767 when He had dipped ^G911 the piece ^G5596 of bread ^G5596, He *took ^G2983 and *gave ^G1325 it to Judas ^G2455, the son of Simon ^G4613 Iscariot ^G2469. 27 And after ^G3326 the piece ^G5596 of bread ^G5596, Satan ^G4567 then ^G5119 entered ^G1525 into him. Therefore ^G3767 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to him, “What ^G3739 you do ^G4160, do ^G4160 quickly ^G5036.” 28 Now ^G1161 no ^G3762 one ^G3762 of those ^G3588 reclining ^G345 at the table knew ^G1097 for what ^G5101 purpose He had said ^G3004 this ^G3778 to him. 29 For some ^G5100 were thinking ^G1380, because ^G1893 Judas ^G2455 had ^G2192 the money ^G1101 box ^G1101, that Jesus ^G2424 was saying ^G3004 to him, “Buy ^G59 the things we have ^G2192 need ^G5532 of for the feast ^G1859”; or ^G2228 else ^G2228, that he should give ^G1325 something ^G5100 to the poor ^G4434. 30 So ^G3767 after receiving ^G2983 the piece ^G5596 of bread ^G5596, he went ^G1831 out ^G1831 immediately ^G2117. 31 Therefore ^G3767 when ^G3753 he had gone ^G1831 out ^G1831, Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004, “Now ^G3568 [fn]is the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 glorified ^G1392, and God ^G2316 [fn]is glorified ^G1392 in Him; 32 [fn]if ^G1487 God ^G2316 is glorified ^G1392 in Him, God ^G2316 will also ^G2532 glorify ^G1392 Him in Himself ^G846, and will glorify ^G1392 Him immediately ^G2117. 33 Little ^G5040 children ^G5040, I am ^G1510 with you a little ^G3398 while ^G3398 longer ^G2089. You will seek ^G2212 Me; and as I said ^G3004 to the Jews ^G2453, now ^G737 I also ^G2532 say ^G3004 to you, ‘Where ^G3699 I am going ^G5217, you cannot ^G1410 G3756 come ^G1831.’ 34 A new ^G2537 commandment ^G1785 I give ^G1325 to you, that you love ^G25 one ^G240 another ^G240, even ^G2531 as I have loved ^G25 you, that you also ^G2532 love ^G25 one ^G240 another ^G240. 35 By this ^G3778 all ^G3956 will know ^G1097 that you are My disciples ^G3101, if ^G1437 you have ^G2192 love ^G26 for one ^G240 another ^G240.”

36 Simon ^G4613 Peter ^G4074 *said ^G3004 to Him, “Lord ^G2962, where ^G4226 are You going ^G5217?” Jesus ^G2424 answered ^G611, “Where ^G3699 I go ^G5217, you cannot ^G1410 G3756 follow ^G190 Me now ^G3568; but you will follow ^G190 later ^G5305.” 37 Peter ^G4074 *said ^G3004 to Him, “Lord ^G2962, why ^G1223 G5101 can ^G1410 I not follow ^G190 You right ^G737 now ^G737? I will lay ^G5087 down ^G5087 my life ^G5590 for You.” 38 Jesus ^G2424 *answered ^G611, “Will you lay ^G5087 down ^G5087 your life ^G5590 for Me? Truly ^G281, truly ^G281, I say ^G3004 to you, a rooster ^G220 will not crow ^G5455 until ^G2193 you deny ^G720 Me three ^G5151 times ^G5151.
