Jesus Goes to Galilee

1 Therefore ^G3767 when ^G5613 Jesus ^G2962 knew ^G1097 that the Pharisees ^G5330 had heard ^G191 that Jesus ^G2424 was making ^G4160 and baptizing ^G907 more ^G4183 disciples ^G3101 than ^G2228 John ^G2491

2 (although ^G2544 Jesus ^G2424 Himself ^G846 was not baptizing ^G907, but His disciples ^G3101 were), 3 He left ^G863 Judea ^G2449 and went ^G565 away ^G565 again ^G3825 into Galilee ^G1056. 4 And He had ^G1163 to pass ^G1330 through ^G1330 G1223 Samaria ^G4540. 5 So ^G3767 He *came ^G2064 to a city ^G4172 of Samaria ^G4540 called ^G3004 Sychar ^G4965, near ^G4139 the field ^G5564 that Jacob ^G2384 gave ^G1325 to his son ^G5207 Joseph ^G2501; 6 and Jacob’s ^G2384 well ^G4077 was there ^G1563. So ^G3767 Jesus ^G2424, being wearied ^G2872 from His journey ^G3597, was sitting ^G2516 thus ^G3779 by the well ^G4077. It was about ^G5613 [fn]the sixth ^G1623 hour ^G5610.

Jesus and the Samaritan Woman

7 A woman ^G1135 of Samaria ^G4540 *came ^G2064 to draw ^G501 water ^G5204. Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to her, “Give ^G1325 Me a drink ^G4095.”

8 For His disciples ^G3101 had gone ^G565 away ^G565 into the city ^G4172 to buy ^G59 food ^G5160. 9 Therefore ^G3767 the Samaritan ^G4542 woman ^G1135 *said ^G3004 to Him, “How ^G4459 do You, being ^G1510 a Jew ^G2453, ask ^G154 for a drink ^G4095 from me, being ^G1510 a Samaritan ^G4542 woman ^G1135?” (For Jews ^G2453 have ^G4798 no ^G3756 dealings ^G4798 with Samaritans ^G4541.) 10 Jesus ^G2424 answered ^G611 and said ^G3004 to her, “If ^G1487 you knew ^G6063 the gift ^G1431 of God ^G2316, and who ^G5101 it is who says ^G3004 to you, ‘Give ^G1325 Me a drink ^G4095,’ you would have asked ^G154 Him, and He would have given ^G1325 you living ^G2198 water ^G5204.” 11 She *said ^G3004 to Him, “[fn]Sir ^G2962, You have ^G2192 nothing ^G3777 to draw ^G502 with and the well ^G5421 is deep ^G901. Where ^G4159 then ^G3767 do You get ^G2192 that living ^G2198 water? 12 Are You greater ^G3173 than our father ^G3962 Jacob ^G2384, who ^G3739 gave ^G1325 us this well ^G5421, and drank ^G4095 of it himself ^G846 and his sons ^G5207 and his cattle ^G2353?” 13 Jesus ^G2424 answered ^G611 and said ^G3004 to her, “Everyone ^G3956 who drinks ^G4095 of this ^G3778 water ^G5204 will thirst ^G1372 again ^G3825; 14 but whoever ^G3739 G302 drinks ^G4095 of the water ^G5204 that I will give ^G1325 him will never ^G3756 G3361 thirst ^G1372—ever ^{G1519 G3588 G165}; but the water ^G5204 that I will give ^G1325 him will become ^G1096 in him a well ^G4077 of water ^G5204 springing ^G242 up ^G242 to eternal ^G166 life ^G2222.”

15 The woman ^G1135 *said ^G3004 to Him, “[fn]Sir ^G2962, give ^G1325 me this ^G3778 water ^G5204, so ^G2443 I will not be thirsty ^G1372 nor ^G3366 come ^G1330 back here ^G1759 to draw ^G501.” 16 He *said ^G3004 to her, “Go ^G5217, call ^G5455 your husband ^G435 and come ^G2064 back here ^G1759.” 17 The woman ^G1135 answered ^G611 and said ^G3004, “I have ^G2192 no ^G3756 husband ^G435.” Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to her, “You have correctly ^G2573 said ^G3004, ‘I have ^G2192 no ^G3756 husband ^G435’; 18 for you had ^G2192 five ^G4002 husbands ^G435, and the one ^G3739 you now ^G3568 have ^G2192 is not your husband ^G435; this ^G3778 you have said ^G3004 truly ^G227.” 19 The woman ^G1135 *said ^G3004 to Him, “[fn]Sir ^G2962, I see ^G2334 that You are a prophet ^G4396. 20 Our fathers ^G3962 worshiped ^G4352 on this ^G3778 mountain ^G3735, and you people say ^G3004 that in Jerusalem ^G2414 is the place ^G5117 where ^G3699 men ought ^G1163 to worship ^G4352.” 21 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to her, “Woman ^G1135, believe ^G4100 Me, an hour ^G5610 is coming ^G2064 when ^G3753 neither ^G3777 in this ^G3778 mountain ^G3735 nor ^G3777 in Jerusalem ^G2414 will you worship ^G4352 the Father ^G3962. 22 You worship ^G4352 what ^G3739 you do not know ^G6063; we worship ^G4352 what ^G3739 we know ^G6063, for salvation ^G4991 is from the Jews ^G2453. 23 But an hour ^G5610 is coming ^G2064, and now ^G3568 is, when ^G3753 the true ^G228 worshipers ^G4353 will worship ^G4352 the Father ^G3962 in spirit ^G4151 and truth ^G225; for such ^G5108 people ^G5108 the Father ^G3962 seeks ^G2212 to be His worshipers ^G4352. 24 God ^G2316 is [fn]spirit ^G4151, and those ^G3588 who worship ^G4352 Him must ^G1163 worship ^G4352 in spirit ^G4151 and truth ^G225.” 25 The woman ^G1135 *said ^G3004 to Him, “I know ^G6063 that Messiah ^G3323 is coming ^G2064 (He who is called ^G3004 [fn]Christ ^G5547); when ^G3752 He ^G1565 comes ^G2064, He will declare ^G312 all ^G537 things ^G537 to us.” 26 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to her, “I who speak ^G2980 to you am ^G1510 He.”

27 And at this ^G3778 point ^G1909 His disciples ^G3101 came ^G2064, and they were ^G2296 marveling ^G2296 that He was speaking ^G2980 with a woman ^G1135, yet ^G3305 no ^G3762 one ^G3762 said ^G3004, “What ^G5101 do You seek ^G2212?” or ^G2228, “Why ^G5101 are You speaking ^G2980 with her?” 28 So ^G3767 the woman ^G1135 left ^G863 her water ^G5201 jar ^G5201, and went ^G565 into the city ^G4172 and *said ^G3004 to the men ^G444, 29 “Come ^G1205, see ^G3708 a man ^G444 who ^G3739 told ^G3004 me all ^G3956 the things ^G3956 that I have done ^G4160; is this ^G3778 not the [fn]Christ ^G5547?” 30 They went ^G1831 out ^G1831 of the city ^G4172, and were coming ^G2064 to Him.

31 Meanwhile ^G3342 the disciples ^G3101 were urging ^G2065 Him, saying ^G3004, “Rabbi ^G4461, eat ^G2068.” 32 But He said ^G3004 to them, “I have ^G2192 food ^G1035 to eat ^G2068 that you do not know ^G6063 about ^G6063.” 33 So ^G3767 the disciples ^G3101 were saying ^G3004 to one ^G240 another ^G240, “Has anyone ^G5100 brought ^G5342 Him anything to eat ^G2068?” 34 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to them, “My food ^G1033 is to do ^G4160 the will ^G2307 of Him who sent ^G3992 Me and to finish ^G5048 His work ^G2041. 35 Do you not say ^G3004, ‘There are yet ^G2089 four ^G5072 months ^G5072, and then comes ^G2064 the harvest ^G2326’? Behold ^G2400, I say ^G3004 to you, lift ^G1869 up ^G1869 your eyes ^G3788 and look ^G2300 on the fields ^G5561, that they are white ^G3022 for harvest ^G2326. 36 Even ^G2235 now ^G2235 he who reaps ^G2325 is receiving ^G2983 wages ^G3408 and is gathering ^G4863 fruit ^G2590 for life ^G2222 eternal ^G166; so ^G2443 that he who sows ^G4687 and he who reaps ^G2325 may rejoice ^G5463 together ^G3674. 37 For in this ^G3778 case the saying ^G3056 is true ^G228, ‘One ^G243 sows ^G4687 and another ^G243 reaps ^G2325.’ 38 I sent ^G649 you to reap ^G2325 that for which ^G3739 you have not labored ^G2872; others ^G243 have labored ^G2872 and you have entered ^G1525 into their labor ^G2873.”

Many Samaritans Believe

39 From that city ^G4172 many ^G4183 of the Samaritans ^G4541 believed ^G4100 in Him because ^G1223 of the word ^G3056 of the woman ^G1135 who bore witness ^G3140, “He told ^G3004 me all ^G3956 the things ^G3956 that I have done ^G4160.”

40 So ^G3767 when ^G5613 the Samaritans ^G4541 came ^G2064 to Jesus, they were asking ^G2065 Him to stay ^G3306 with them; and He stayed ^G3306 there ^G1563 two ^G1417 days ^G2250. 41 And many ^G4183 more ^G4183 believed ^G4100 because ^G1223 of His word ^G3056; 42 and they were saying ^G3004 to the woman ^G1135, “It is no ^G3765 longer ^G3765 because ^G1223 of what ^G2981 you said ^G2981 that we believe ^G4100, for we have heard ^G191 for ourselves ^G846 and know ^G6063 that this ^G3778 One ^G3778 is truly ^G230 the Savior ^G4990 of the world ^G2889.”

43 And after ^G3326 the two ^G1417 days ^G2250 He went ^G1831 from ^G1564 there ^G1564 into Galilee ^G1056. 44 For Jesus ^G2424 Himself ^G846 bore witness ^G3140 that a prophet ^G4396 has ^G2192 no ^G3756 honor ^G5092 in his own ^G2398 country ^G3968. 45 So ^G3767 when ^G3753 He came ^G2064 to Galilee ^G1056, the Galileans ^G1057 received ^G1209 Him, having seen ^G3708 all ^G3956 the things ^G3956 that He did ^G4160 in Jerusalem ^G2414 at the feast ^G1859; for they themselves ^G846 also ^G2532 went ^G2064 to the feast ^G1859.

Jesus Heals a Royal Official’s Son

46 Then ^G3767 He came ^G2064 again ^G3825 to Cana ^G2580 of Galilee ^G1056 where ^G3699 He had made ^G4160 the water ^G5204 wine ^G3631. And there was a royal ^G937 official ^G937 whose ^G3739 son ^G5207 was sick ^G770 at Capernaum ^G2584.

47 When he heard ^G191 that Jesus ^G2424 had ^G2240 come ^G2240 out of Judea ^G2449 into Galilee ^G1056, he went ^G565 to Him and was asking ^G2065 Him to come ^G2597 down ^G2597 and heal ^G2390 his son ^G5207; for he was ^G3195 about ^G3195 to ^G3195 die ^G599. 48 So ^G3767 Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004 to him, “Unless ^G1437 G3361 you people see ^G3708 [fn]signs ^G4592 and wonders ^G5059, you will never believe ^G4100.” 49 The royal ^G937 official ^G937 *said ^G3004 to Him, “[fn]Sir ^G2962, come ^G2597 down ^G2597 before ^G4250 my child ^G3813 dies ^G599.” 50 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to him, “Go ^G4198; your son ^G5207 lives ^G2198.” The man ^G444 believed ^G4100 the word ^G3056 that Jesus ^G2424 spoke ^G3004 to him and started ^G4198 on ^G4198 his ^G4198 way ^G4198. 51 And while he was still ^G2235 going ^G2597 down ^G2597, his slaves ^G1401 met ^G5221 him, saying ^G3004 that his [fn]son ^G3816 was alive ^G2198. 52 So ^G3767 he inquired ^G4441 of them the hour ^G5610 when ^G1722 G3739 he began to get ^G2192 better ^G2866. Then ^G3767 they said ^G3004 to him, “Yesterday ^G5504 at the [fn]seventh ^G1442 hour ^G5610 the fever ^G4446 left ^G863 him.” 53 So ^G3767 the father ^G3962 knew ^G1097 that it was at that hour ^G5610 in which ^G3739 Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004 to him, “Your son ^G5207 lives ^G2198”; and he himself ^G846 believed ^G4100 and his whole ^G3650 household ^G3614. 54 This ^G3778 is again ^G3825 a second ^G1208 [fn]sign ^G4592 that Jesus ^G2424 did ^G4160 when He had come ^G2064 out ^G4160 of Judea ^G2449 into Galilee ^G1056.
