Statutes Against Eating Blood

1 Then Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872, saying ^H559,

2 “Speak ^H1696 to Aaron ^H175 and to his sons ^H1121 and to all ^H3605 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 and say ^H559 to them, ‘This ^H2088 is what ^H1697 H834 Yahweh ^H3068 has commanded ^H6680, saying ^H559, 3 “Any ^H376 man ^H376 from the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 who ^H834 slaughters ^H7819 an ox ^H7794 or ^H176 a lamb ^H3775 or ^H176 a goat ^H5795 in the camp ^H4264, or ^H176 who ^H834 slaughters ^H7819 it outside ^H4480 H2351 the camp ^H4264, 4 and has not brought ^H935 it to the doorway ^H6607 of the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150 to bring ^H7126 it near ^H7126 as an offering ^H7133 to Yahweh ^H3068 before ^H6440 the [fn]tabernacle ^H4908 of Yahweh ^H3068, it will be counted ^H2803 as bloodguiltiness ^H1818 to that man ^H376. He has shed ^H8210 blood ^H1818, and that man ^H376 shall be cut ^H3772 off ^H3772 from among ^H7130 his people ^H5971. 5 [fn]The reason is so ^H4616 that the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 may bring ^H935 their sacrifices ^H2077 which ^H834 they were sacrificing ^H2076 in the open ^H6440 field ^H7704, that they may bring ^H935 them in ^H935 to Yahweh ^H3068, at the doorway ^H6607 of the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150 to the priest ^H3548, and sacrifice ^H2076 them as sacrifices ^H2077 of peace ^H8002 offerings ^H8002 to Yahweh ^H3068. 6 And the priest ^H3548 shall splash ^H2236 the blood ^H1818 on the altar ^H4196 of Yahweh ^H3068 at the doorway ^H6607 of the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150 and offer ^H6999 up ^H6999 the fat ^H2459 in ^H6999 smoke ^H6999 as a soothing ^H5207 aroma ^H7381 to Yahweh ^H3068. 7 And they shall no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 sacrifice ^H2076 their sacrifices ^H2077 to the [fn]goat ^H8163 demons ^H8163 with which ^H834 they play ^H2181 the ^H2181 harlot ^H2181. This ^H2088 shall be a perpetual ^H5769 statute ^H2708 to them throughout their generations ^H1755.”’

8 “Then you shall say ^H559 to them, ‘Any ^H376 man ^H376 from the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, or from the sojourners ^H1616 who ^H834 sojourn ^H1481 among ^H8432 them, who ^H834 offers ^H5927 a burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 or ^H176 sacrifice ^H2077, 9 and does not bring ^H935 it to the doorway ^H6607 of the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150 to [fn]offer ^H6213 it to Yahweh ^H3068, that man ^H376 also shall be cut ^H3772 off ^H3772 from his people ^H5971.

10 ‘And any ^H376 man ^H376 from the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, or from the sojourners ^H1616 who sojourn ^H1481 among ^H8432 them, who ^H834 eats ^H398 any ^H3605 blood ^H1818, I will set ^H5414 My face ^H6440 against that person ^H5315 who eats ^H398 blood ^H1818 and will cut ^H3772 him off ^H3772 from among ^H7130 his people ^H5971. 11 For the [fn]life ^H5315 of the flesh ^H1320 is in the blood ^H1818, and I have given ^H5414 it to you on the altar ^H4196 to make ^H3722 atonement ^H3722 for your souls ^H5315; for it is the blood ^H1818 that makes ^H3722 atonement ^H3722 by the [fn]life ^H5315.’ 12 Therefore ^H5921 H3651 I said ^H559 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, ‘No ^H3605 H3808 person ^H5315 among ^H4480 you may eat ^H398 blood ^H1818, and no ^H3808 sojourner ^H1616 who sojourns ^H1481 among ^H8432 you may eat ^H398 blood ^H1818.’ 13 So any ^H376 man ^H376 from the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, or from the sojourners ^H1616 who sojourn ^H1481 among ^H8432 them, who in hunting ^H6718 catches ^H6679 a beast ^H2416 or ^H176 a bird ^H5775 which ^H834 may be eaten ^H398, shall pour ^H8210 out ^H8210 its blood ^H1818 and cover ^H3680 it with earth ^H6083.

14 “For as for the [fn]life ^H5315 of all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320, its blood ^H1818 is identified with its [fn]life ^H5315. Therefore I said ^H559 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, ‘You are not to eat ^H398 the blood ^H1818 of any ^H3605 flesh ^H1320, for the [fn]life ^H5315 of all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320 is its blood ^H1818; whoever ^H3605 eats ^H398 it shall be cut ^H3772 off ^H3772.’ 15 And when any ^H3605 person ^H5315 eats ^H398 an animal which ^H5038 dies ^H5038 or is torn ^H2966 by beasts, whether he is a native ^H249 or a sojourner ^H1616, he shall wash ^H3526 his clothes ^H899 and bathe ^H7364 in water ^H4325 and remain ^H2930 unclean ^H2930 until ^H5704 evening ^H6153; then he will become ^H2891 clean ^H2891. 16 But if ^H518 he does not wash ^H3526 them or bathe ^H7364 his body ^H1320, then he shall bear ^H5375 his [fn]guilt ^H5771.”
