The Seventy Sent Out

1 Now ^G1161 after ^G3326 this ^G3778 the Lord ^G2962 appointed ^G322 [fn]seventy ^G1440 others ^G2087, and sent ^G649 them in ^G649 pairs ^G1417 ahead ^G4253 G4383 of Him to every ^G3956 city ^G4172 and place ^G5117 where ^G3757 He Himself ^G846 was ^G3195 going ^G3195 to ^G3195 come ^G2064.

2 And He was saying ^G3004 to them, “The harvest ^G2326 is plentiful ^G4183, but the laborers ^G2040 are few ^G3641; therefore ^G3767 pray ^G1189 earnestly ^G1189 to the Lord ^G2962 of the harvest ^G2326 to send ^G1544 out ^G1544 laborers ^G2040 into His harvest ^G2326. 3 Go ^G5217! Behold ^G2400, I send ^G649 you out ^G649 as lambs ^G704 in the midst ^G3319 of wolves ^G3074. 4 Carry ^G941 no ^G3361 money ^G905 belt ^G905, no ^G3361 bag ^G4082, no ^G3361 sandals ^G5266, and greet ^G782 no ^G3367 one ^G3367 on the way ^G3598. 5 Whatever ^G3739 house ^G3614 you enter ^G1525, first ^G4413 say ^G3004, ‘Peace ^G1515 be to this ^G3778 house ^G3624.’ 6 And if ^G1437 a [fn]man ^G5207 of peace ^G1515 is there ^G1563, your peace ^G1515 will rest ^G1879 on him, but if ^G1487 not, it will return ^G344 to you. 7 Stay ^G3306 in [fn]that house ^G3614, eating ^G2068 and drinking ^G4095 [fn]what they give ^G3844 you; for the laborer ^G2040 is worthy ^G514 of his wages ^G3408. Do not keep moving ^G3327 from house ^G3614 to house ^G3614. 8 And whatever ^G3739 city ^G4172 you enter ^G1525 and they receive ^G1209 you, eat ^G2068 what is set ^G3908 before ^G3908 you; 9 and heal ^G2323 those ^G3588 in it who are sick ^G772, and say ^G3004 to them, ‘The kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316 has come ^G1448 near ^G1448 to you.’ 10 But in whatever ^G3739 G302 city ^G4172 you enter ^G1525 and they do not receive ^G1209 you, go ^G1831 out ^G1831 into its streets ^G4116 and say ^G3004, 11 ‘Even ^G2532 the dust ^G2868 of your city ^G4172 which clings ^G2853 to our feet ^G4228 we wipe ^G631 off ^G631 against you; yet ^G4133 know ^G1097 this ^G3778, that the kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316 is at hand ^G1448.’ 12 I say ^G3004 to you, it will be more ^G414 tolerable ^G414 in that day ^G2250 for Sodom ^G4670 than ^G2228 for that city ^G4172.

13 “Woe ^G3759 to you, Chorazin ^G5523! Woe ^G3759 to you, Bethsaida ^G966! For if ^G1487 the [fn]miracles ^G1411 had been performed ^G1096 in Tyre ^G5184 and Sidon ^G4605 which ^G3739 occurred ^G1096 in you, they would have repented ^G3340 long ^G3819 ago ^G3819, sitting ^G2521 in [fn]sackcloth ^G4526 and ashes ^G4700. 14 But it will be more ^G414 tolerable ^G414 for Tyre ^G5184 and Sidon ^G4605 in the judgment ^G2920 than ^G2228 for you. 15 And you, Capernaum ^G2584, will you be exalted ^G5312 to heaven ^G3772? You will be brought ^G2597 down ^G2597 to Hades ^G86!

16 “The one who listens ^G191 to you listens ^G191 to Me, and the one who rejects ^G114 you rejects ^G114 Me. And he who rejects ^G114 Me rejects ^G114 the One who sent ^G649 Me.”

The Joyful Results

17 Now the [fn]seventy ^G1440 returned ^G5290 with joy ^G5479, saying ^G3004, “Lord ^G2962, even ^G2532 the demons ^G1140 are subject ^G5293 to us in Your name ^G3686.”

18 And He said ^G3004 to them, “I was watching ^G2334 Satan ^G4567 fall ^G4098 from heaven ^G3772 like ^G5613 lightning ^G796. 19 Behold ^G2400, I have given ^G1325 you authority ^G1849 to tread ^G3961 on serpents ^G3789 and scorpions ^G4651, and over ^G1909 all ^G3956 the power ^G1411 of the enemy ^G2190, and nothing ^G3762 will injure ^G91 you. 20 Nevertheless ^G4133 do not rejoice ^G5463 in this ^G3778, that the spirits ^G4151 are subject ^G5293 to you, but rejoice ^G5463 that your names ^G3686 are recorded ^G1449 in heaven ^G3772.”

21 At that very ^G846 [fn]time ^G5610 He rejoiced ^G21 greatly ^G21 in the Holy ^G40 Spirit ^G4151, and said ^G3004, “I [fn]praise ^G1843 You, O Father ^G3962, Lord ^G2962 of heaven ^G3772 and earth ^G1093, that You have hidden ^G613 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 from the wise ^G4680 and intelligent ^G4908 and have revealed ^G601 them to infants ^G3516. Yes ^G3483, Father ^G3962, for this ^G3779 way ^G3779 was well-pleasing ^G2107 in Your sight ^G1715. 22 All ^G3956 things ^G3956 have been handed ^G3860 over ^G3860 to Me by My Father ^G3962, and no ^G3762 one ^G3762 knows ^G1097 who ^G5101 the Son ^G5207 is except ^G1508 the Father ^G3962, and who ^G5101 the Father ^G3962 is except ^G1508 the Son ^G5207, and anyone to whom ^G3739 the Son ^G5207 wills ^G1014 to reveal ^G601 Him.”

23 And turning ^G4762 to the disciples ^G3101, He said ^G3004 privately ^G2596 G2398, “Blessed ^G3107 are the eyes ^G3788 which see ^G991 the things you see ^G991, 24 for I say ^G3004 to you, that many ^G4183 prophets ^G4396 and kings ^G935 wished ^G2309 to see ^G3708 the things which ^G3739 you see ^G991, and did not see ^G3708 them, and to hear ^G191 the things which ^G3739 you hear ^G191, and did not hear ^G191 them.”

The Good Samaritan

25 And behold ^G2400, a scholar ^G3544 of ^G3544 the ^G3544 Law ^G3544 stood ^G450 up ^G450 and was putting ^G1598 Him to ^G1598 the ^G1598 test ^G1598, saying ^G3004, “Teacher ^G1320, what ^G5101 shall I do ^G4160 to inherit ^G2816 eternal ^G166 life ^G2222?”

26 And He said ^G3004 to him, “What ^G5101 is written ^G1125 in the Law ^G3551? How ^G4459 do you read ^G314 it?” 27 And he answered ^G611 and said ^G3004, “YOU SHALL LOVE ^G25 THE [fn]LORD ^G2962 YOUR GOD ^G2316 WITH ALL ^G3650 YOUR HEART ^G2588, AND WITH ALL ^G3650 YOUR SOUL ^G5590, AND WITH ALL ^G3650 YOUR STRENGTH ^G2479, AND WITH ALL ^G3650 YOUR MIND ^G1271; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR ^G4139 AS YOURSELF ^G4572.” 28 And He said ^G3004 to him, “You have answered ^G611 correctly ^G3723; DO ^G4160 THIS ^G3778 AND YOU WILL LIVE ^G2198.” 29 But wishing ^G2309 to justify ^G1344 himself ^G1438, he said ^G3004 to Jesus ^G2424, “And who ^G5101 is my neighbor ^G4139?” 30 Jesus ^G2424 replied ^G5274 and said ^G3004, “A man ^G444 was going ^G2597 down ^G2597 from Jerusalem ^G2419 to Jericho ^G2410, and fell ^G4045 among ^G4045 robbers ^G3027, and they stripped ^G1562 him and [fn]beat ^G2007 G4127 him, and went ^G565 away ^G565 leaving ^G863 him half ^G2253 dead ^G2253. 31 And a priest ^G2409 happened ^G4795 to be going ^G2597 down ^G2597 on that road ^G3598, and when he saw ^G3708 him, he passed ^G492 by ^G492 on ^G492 the ^G492 other ^G492 side ^G492. 32 Likewise ^G3668 a Levite ^G3019 also ^G2532, when he came ^G2064 to the place ^G5117 and saw ^G3708 him, passed ^G492 by ^G492 on ^G492 the ^G492 other ^G492 side ^G492. 33 But a Samaritan ^G4541, who was on a journey ^G3593, came ^G2064 upon him, and when he saw ^G3708 him, he felt ^G4697 compassion ^G4697. 34 And he came ^G4334 to him and bandaged ^G2611 up ^G2611 his wounds ^G5134, pouring ^G2022 oil ^G1637 and wine ^G3631 on ^G2022 them, and he put ^G1913 him on his own ^G2398 animal ^G2934, and brought ^G71 him to an inn ^G3829 and took ^G1959 care ^G1959 of him. 35 And on the next ^G839 day ^G839 he took ^G1544 out ^G1544 two ^G1417 [fn]denarii ^G1220 and gave ^G1325 them to the innkeeper ^G3830 and said ^G3004, ‘Take ^G1959 care ^G1959 of him, and whatever ^{G3739 G5100 G302} more ^G4325 you spend ^G4325, when ^G1722 I return ^G1880 I will repay ^G591 you.’ 36 Which ^G5101 of these ^G3778 three ^G5140 do you think ^G1380 proved ^G1096 to be a neighbor ^G4139 to the man who fell ^G1706 into the robbers’ ^G3027 hands?” 37 And he said ^G3004, “The one who showed ^G4160 mercy ^G1656 toward ^G3326 him.” Then ^G1161 Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004 to him, “Go ^G4198 and do ^G4160 [fn]the same ^G3668.”

Martha and Mary

38 Now ^G1161 as they were traveling ^G4198 along, He entered ^G1525 a village ^G2968; and a woman ^G1135 named ^G3686 Martha ^G3136 welcomed ^G5264 Him into her home ^G3614.

39 And she had ^G1510 a sister ^G79 called ^G2564 Mary ^G3137, who ^G3739 was also ^G2532 seated ^G3869 at the Lord’s ^G2962 feet ^G4228, listening ^G191 to His word ^G3056. 40 But Martha ^G3136 was distracted ^G4049 with [fn]all ^G4183 her preparations ^G1248; and she came ^G2186 up ^G2186 to Him and said ^G3004, “Lord ^G2962, do You not care ^G3199 that my sister ^G79 has left ^G2641 me to do ^G1247 all the [fn]preparations ^G1247 alone ^G3441? Then ^G3767 tell ^G3004 her to help ^G4878 me.” 41 But the Lord ^G2962 answered ^G611 and said ^G3004 to her, “Martha ^G3136, Martha ^G3136, you are worried ^G3309 and bothered ^G5182 about ^G4012 so many ^G4183 things ^G4183, 42 but only one ^G1520 thing ^G1520 is necessary ^G5532, for Mary ^G3137 has chosen ^G1586 the good ^G18 part ^G3310, which ^G3748 shall not be taken ^G851 away ^G851 from her.”
