The Messenger and the Lord

1 “Behold ^H2009, I am going to send ^H7971 My [fn]messenger ^H4397, and he will [fn]prepare ^H6437 the way ^H1870 before ^H6440 Me. And the Lord ^H113, whom ^H834 you seek ^H1245, will suddenly ^H6597 come ^H935 to His temple ^H1964; [fn]and the [fn]messenger ^H4397 of the covenant ^H1285, in whom ^H834 you delight ^H2655, behold ^H2009, He is coming ^H935,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635.

2 “But who ^H4310 can endure ^H3557 the day ^H3117 of His coming ^H935? And who ^H4310 can stand ^H5975 when He appears ^H7200? For He is like a smelter’s ^H6884 fire ^H784 and like [fn]fullers’ ^H3526 soap ^H1287. 3 And He will sit ^H3427 as a smelter ^H6884 and purifier ^H2891 of silver ^H3701, and He will purify ^H2891 the sons ^H1121 of Levi ^H3878 and refine ^H2212 them like gold ^H2091 and silver ^H3701, so that they may present ^H5066 to Yahweh ^H3068 [fn]offerings ^H4503 in righteousness ^H6666. 4 Then the [fn]offering ^H4503 of Judah ^H3063 and Jerusalem ^H3389 will be pleasing ^H6149 to Yahweh ^H3068 as in the ancient ^H5769 days ^H3117 and as in former ^H6931 years ^H8141.

5 “Then I will draw ^H7126 near ^H7126 to you for judgment ^H4941; and I will be a swift ^H4116 witness ^H5707 against the sorcerers ^H3784 and against the adulterers ^H5003 and against those who swear ^H7650 falsely ^H8267 and against those who oppress ^H6231 the wage ^H7916 earner ^H7916 in his wages ^H7939, the widow ^H490 and the [fn]orphan ^H3490, and those who turn ^H5186 aside ^H5186 the sojourner ^H1616 and do not [fn]fear ^H3372 Me,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635. 6 “For [fn]I, Yahweh ^H3068, do not change ^H8132; therefore you, O sons ^H1121 of Jacob ^H3290, [fn]are not consumed ^H3615.

You Have Robbed God

7 “From the days ^H3117 of your fathers ^H1 you have turned ^H5493 aside ^H5493 from My statutes ^H2706 and have not kept ^H8104 them. Return ^H7725 to Me, and I will return ^H7725 to you,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635. “But you say ^H559, ‘How ^H4100 shall we return ^H7725?’

8 “Will a man ^H120 [fn]rob ^H6906 God ^H430? Yet ^H3588 you are robbing ^H6906 Me! But you say ^H559, ‘How ^H4100 have we robbed ^H6906 You?’ In tithes ^H4643 and [fn]contributions ^H8641.

9 You are cursed ^H779 with a curse ^H3994, for you are [fn]robbing ^H6906 Me, the whole ^H3605 nation ^H1471 of you! 10 Bring ^H935 the whole ^H3605 tithe ^H4643 into the storehouse ^H214, so that there may be [fn]food ^H2964 in My house ^H1004, and test ^H974 Me now ^H4994 in this ^H2088,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, “if ^H518 I will not open ^H6605 for you the windows ^H699 of heaven ^H8064 and empty ^H7324 out ^H7324 for you a blessing ^H1293 until ^H5704 [fn]it is beyond ^H1097 enough ^H1767. 11 Then I will rebuke ^H1605 the devourer ^H398 for you so that it will not corrupt ^H7843 the fruits ^H6529 of the ground ^H127; nor ^H3808 will your vine ^H1612 in the field ^H7704 [fn]fail ^H7921 to bear ^H7921,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635. 12 “So all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471 will call ^H833 you blessed ^H833, for you shall be a delightful ^H2656 land ^H776,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635.

Arrogant Words

13 “Your words ^H1697 have been ^H2388 strong ^H2388 against ^H5921 Me,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068. “But you say ^H559, ‘What ^H4100 have we spoken ^H1696 against ^H5921 You?’

14 You have said ^H559, ‘It is worthless ^H7723 to serve ^H5647 God ^H430; and what ^H4100 gain ^H1215 is it that we have kept ^H8104 His charge ^H4931 and that we have walked ^H1980 in mourning ^H6941 before ^H4480 H6440 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635? 15 So now ^H6258 we call ^H833 the arrogant ^H2086 blessed ^H833; not only ^H1571 are the doers ^H6213 of wickedness ^H7564 built ^H1129 up ^H1129, but they also ^H1571 test ^H974 God ^H430 and escape ^H4422.’”

The Book of Remembrance

16 Then ^H227 those who [fn]feared ^H3372 Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to one ^H376 another ^H7453, and Yahweh ^H3068 gave ^H7181 heed ^H7181 and heard ^H8085 it, and a book ^H5612 of remembrance ^H2146 was written ^H3789 before ^H6440 Him for those who [fn]fear ^H3372 Yahweh ^H3068 and who think ^H2803 upon His name ^H8034.

17 “And they will be Mine,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, “on the day ^H3117 that I [fn]prepare ^H6213 My [fn]own treasured ^H5459 possession ^H5459, and I will [fn]spare ^H2550 them as a man ^H376 [fn]spares ^H2550 his own son ^H1121 who serves ^H5647 him.” 18 So you will return ^H7725 and see ^H7200 the distinction between ^H996 the righteous ^H6662 and the wicked ^H7563, between ^H996 one who serves ^H5647 God ^H430 and one who ^H834 does not serve ^H5647 Him.
