The Triumphal Entry

1 And as they *approached ^G1448 Jerusalem ^G2414, at Bethphage ^G967 and Bethany ^G963, near ^G4314 the Mount ^G3735 of Olives ^G1636, He *sent ^G649 two ^G1417 of His disciples ^G3101,

2 and *said ^G3004 to them, “Go ^G5217 into the village ^G2968 opposite ^G2713 you, and immediately ^G2117 as you enter ^G1531 it, you will find ^G2147 a colt ^G4454 tied ^G1210 there, on which ^G3739 no ^G3762 one ^G444 G3762 yet ^G3768 has ever ^G3768 sat ^G2523; untie ^G3089 it and bring ^G5342 it here. 3 And if ^G1437 anyone ^G5100 says ^G3004 to you, ‘Why ^G5101 are you doing ^G4160 this ^G3778?’ you say ^G3004, ‘The Lord ^G2962 has ^G2192 need ^G5532 of it’; and immediately ^G2117 he [fn]will send ^G649 it back ^G3825 here ^G5602.” 4 And they went ^G565 away ^G565 and found ^G2147 a colt ^G4454 tied ^G1210 at the door ^G2374, outside ^G1854 in the street ^G296; and they *untied ^G3089 it. 5 And some ^G5100 of the bystanders ^G1563 G2476 were saying ^G3004 to them, “What ^G5101 are you doing ^G4160, untying ^G3089 the colt ^G4454?” 6 And they spoke ^G3004 to them just ^G2531 as Jesus ^G2424 had told ^G3004 them, and they gave ^G863 them permission ^G863. 7 And they *brought ^G5342 the colt ^G4454 to Jesus ^G2424 and put ^G1911 their garments ^G2440 on ^G1911 it; and He sat ^G2523 on it. 8 And many ^G4183 spread ^G4766 their garments ^G2440 in the road ^G3598, and others ^G243 spread leafy ^G4746 branches ^G4746, having cut ^G2875 them from the ^G68 fields ^G68. 9 And those ^G3588 who went ^G4254 in ^G4254 front ^G4254 and those ^G3588 who followed ^G190 were shouting ^G2896:

“Hosanna ^G5614!

BLESSED ^G2127 IS HE WHO COMES ^G2064 IN THE NAME ^G3686 OF THE [fn]LORD ^G2962;

10 Blessed ^G2127 is the coming ^G2064 kingdom ^G932 of our father ^G3962 David ^G1138;

Hosanna ^G5614 in the highest ^G5310!”

11 And Jesus entered ^G1525 Jerusalem ^G2414 and came into the temple ^G2413; and after looking ^G4017 around ^G4017 at everything ^G3956, He left ^G1831 for Bethany ^G963 with the twelve ^G1427, since it was already ^G2235 late ^G3796.

The Barren Fig Tree

12 And on the next ^G1887 day ^G1887, when they had left ^G1831 Bethany ^G963, He became hungry ^G3983.

13 And seeing ^G3708 at a distance ^G3113 a fig ^G4808 tree ^G4808 that had ^G2192 leaves ^G5444, He went ^G2064 to see if ^G1487 perhaps ^G686 He would find ^G2147 anything ^G5100 on it; and when He came ^G2064 to it, He found ^G2147 nothing ^G3762 but leaves ^G5444, for it was not the season ^G2540 for figs ^G4810. 14 And He answered ^G611 and said ^G3004 to it, “May no ^G3367 one ^G3367 ever ^G1519 G165 eat ^G2068 fruit ^G2590 from you again ^G3371!” And His disciples ^G3101 were listening ^G191.

Jesus Drives Merchants from the Temple

15 Then ^G2532 they *came ^G2064 to Jerusalem ^G2414. And He entered ^G1525 the temple ^G2413 and began ^G757 to drive ^G1544 out ^G1544 those ^G3588 who were buying ^G59 and selling ^G4453 in the temple ^G2413, and overturned ^G2690 the tables ^G5132 of the money ^G2855 changers ^G2855 and the seats ^G2515 of those ^G3588 who were selling ^G4453 [fn]doves ^G4058;

16 and He was not permitting ^G863 anyone ^G5100 to carry ^G1308 [fn]merchandise ^G4632 through ^G1223 the temple ^G2413. 17 And He began to teach ^G1321 and say ^G3004 to them, “Is it not written ^G1125, ‘MY HOUSE ^G3624 SHALL BE CALLED ^G2564 A HOUSE ^G3624 OF PRAYER ^G4335 FOR ALL ^G3956 THE NATIONS ^G1484’? But you have made ^G4160 it a ROBBERS’ ^G3027 [fn]DEN ^G4693.” 18 And the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the scribes ^G1122 heard ^G191 this, and began seeking ^G2212 how ^G4459 to destroy ^G622 Him; for they were ^G5399 afraid ^G5399 of Him, for the whole ^G3956 crowd ^G3793 was astonished ^G1605 at His teaching ^G1322.

19 And when ^G3752 evening ^G3796 came ^G1096, [fn]they were going ^G1607 out ^G1607 of the city ^G4172.

20 And as they were passing ^G3899 by in the morning ^G4404, they saw ^G3708 the fig ^G4808 tree ^G4808 withered ^G3583 from the roots ^G4491. 21 And being reminded ^G363, Peter ^G4074 *said ^G3004 to Him, “Rabbi ^G4461, look ^G2396, the fig ^G4808 tree ^G4808 which ^G3739 You cursed ^G2672 has withered ^G3583.” 22 And Jesus ^G2424 answered ^G611 and *said ^G3004 to them, “Have ^G2192 faith ^G4102 in God ^G2316. 23 Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, whoever ^G3739 G302 says ^G3004 to this ^G3778 mountain ^G3735, ‘Be taken ^G142 up ^G142 and cast ^G906 into the sea ^G2281,’ and does not doubt ^G1252 in his heart ^G2588, but believes ^G4100 that what ^G3739 he says ^G2980 [fn]is going to happen ^G1096, it will be granted him. 24 For this reason ^G1223 G3778 I say ^G3004 to you, all ^G3956 things ^G3956 for which ^G3745 you pray ^G4336 and ask ^G154, believe ^G4100 that you have received ^G2983 them, and they will be granted to you. 25 And whenever ^G3752 you stand ^G4739 praying ^G4336, forgive ^G863, if ^G1487 you have ^G2192 anything ^G5100 against ^G2596 anyone ^G5100, so ^G2443 that your Father ^G3962 who ^G3588 is in heaven ^G3772 will also ^G2532 forgive ^G863 you your transgressions ^G3900. 26 [fn][But if ^G1487 you do not forgive ^G863, neither ^G3761 will your Father ^G3962 who ^G3588 is in heaven ^G3772 forgive ^G863 your transgressions ^G3900.”]

The Authority of Jesus Challenged

27 Then ^G2532 they *came ^G2064 again ^G3825 to Jerusalem ^G2414. And as He was walking ^G4043 in the temple ^G2413, the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the scribes ^G1122 and the elders ^G4245 *came ^G2064 to Him,

28 and began saying ^G3004 to Him, “By what ^G4169 authority ^G1849 are You doing ^G4160 these ^G3778 things ^G3778, or ^G2228 who ^G5101 gave ^G1325 You this ^G3778 authority ^G1849 to do ^G4160 these ^G3778 things ^G3778?” 29 And Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004 to them, “I will ask ^G1905 you one ^G1520 question ^G3056, and you answer ^G611 Me, and then I will tell ^G3004 you by what ^G4169 authority ^G1849 I do ^G4160 these ^G3778 things ^G3778. 30 Was the baptism ^G908 of John ^G2491 from heaven ^G3772, or ^G2228 from men ^G444? Answer ^G611 Me.” 31 And they began reasoning ^G1260 among ^G4314 themselves ^G1438, saying ^G3004, “If ^G1437 we say ^G3004, ‘From heaven ^G3772,’ He will say ^G3004, ‘Then ^G3767 why ^G1223 G5101 did you not believe ^G4100 him?’ 32 But if we say ^G3004, ‘From men ^G444’?”—they were ^G5399 afraid ^G5399 of the crowd ^G3793, for everyone ^G537 was regarding ^G2192 John ^G2491 to have been ^G1510 a real ^G3689 prophet ^G4396. 33 And answering ^G611 Jesus ^G2424, they *said ^G3004, “We do not know ^G6063.” And Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to them, “Neither ^G3761 [fn]will I tell ^G3004 you by what ^G4169 authority ^G1849 I do ^G4160 these ^G3778 things ^G3778.”
