There Is None Righteous

1 Then ^G3767 what ^G5101 advantage ^G4053 has the Jew ^G2453? Or ^G2228 what ^G5101 is the value ^G5622 of circumcision ^G4061?

2 Great ^G4183 in every ^G3956 respect ^G5158. First ^G4413 of all ^G4413, that they were entrusted ^G4100 with the oracles ^G3051 of God ^G2316. 3 What ^G5101 then ^G1063? If ^G1487 some ^G5100 [fn]did not ^G569 believe ^G569, does their [fn]unbelief ^G570 abolish ^G2673 the faithfulness ^G4102 of God ^G2316? 4 May it never ^G3361 be! Rather ^G1161, let God ^G2316 be true ^G227 and ^G1161 every ^G3956 man ^G444 a liar ^G5583, as it is written ^G1125,

“THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED ^G1344 IN YOUR WORDS ^G3056,

AND OVERCOME ^G3528 WHEN ^G1722 YOU [fn]ARE JUDGED ^G2919.”

5 But if ^G1487 our unrighteousness ^G93 [fn]demonstrates ^G4921 the righteousness ^G1343 of God ^G2316, what ^G5101 shall we say ^G3004? Is the God ^G2316 who inflicts ^G2018 wrath ^G3709 unrighteous ^G94? (I am speaking ^G3004 in human ^G444 terms ^G2596.) 6 May it never ^G3361 be! For otherwise ^G1893, how ^G4459 will God ^G2316 judge ^G2919 the world ^G2889? 7 But if ^G1487 through ^G1722 my lie ^G5582 the truth ^G225 of God ^G2316 abounded ^G4052 to His glory ^G1391, why ^G5101 am I also ^G2532 still ^G2089 being judged ^G2919 as a sinner ^G268? 8 And why not say (as we are slanderously ^G987 reported ^G987 and as some ^G5100 claim ^G5346 that we say ^G3004), “Let us do ^G4160 evil ^G2556 that good ^G18 may come ^G2064”? [fn]Their condemnation ^G2917 is just ^G1738.

9 What ^G5101 then ^G3767? Are we [fn]better ^G4284? Not at all ^G3843; for we have already ^G4256 charged ^G4256 that both ^G5037 Jews ^G2453 and Greeks ^G1672 are all ^G3956 under ^G5259 sin ^G266; 10 as it is written ^G1125,

“THERE IS NONE ^G3756 RIGHTEOUS ^G1342, NOT EVEN ^G3761 ONE ^G1520;

11 THERE IS NONE ^G3756 WHO UNDERSTANDS ^G4920,

THERE IS NONE ^G3756 WHO SEEKS ^G1567 FOR GOD ^G2316;

12 ALL ^G3956 HAVE TURNED ^G1578 ASIDE ^G1578, TOGETHER ^G260 THEY HAVE BECOME ^G889 WORTHLESS ^G889;

THERE IS NONE ^G3756 WHO DOES ^G4160 GOOD ^G5544,

THERE IS NOT EVEN ^G2193 ONE ^G1520.”

13 “THEIR THROAT ^G2995 IS AN OPEN ^G455 TOMB ^G5028,

WITH THEIR TONGUES ^G1100 THEY KEEP DECEIVING ^G1387,”

“THE POISON ^G2447 OF ASPS ^G785 IS UNDER ^G5259 THEIR LIPS ^G5491”;

14 “WHOSE ^G3739 MOUTH ^G4750 IS FULL ^G1073 OF CURSING ^G685 AND BITTERNESS ^G4088”;

15 “THEIR FEET ^G4228 ARE SWIFT ^G3691 TO SHED ^G1632 BLOOD ^G129,

16 DESTRUCTION ^G4938 AND MISERY ^G5004 ARE IN THEIR PATHS ^G3598,

17 AND THE PATH ^G3598 OF PEACE ^G1515 THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN ^G1097.”

18 “THERE IS NO ^G3756 FEAR ^G5401 OF GOD ^G2316 BEFORE ^G561 THEIR EYES ^G3788.”

19 Now ^G1161 we know ^G6063 that whatever ^G3745 the Law ^G3551 says ^G3004, it speaks ^G2980 to those ^G3588 who are in ^G1722 the Law ^G3551, so ^G2443 that every ^G3956 mouth ^G4750 may be shut ^G5420 and all ^G3956 the world ^G2889 may become ^G1096 accountable ^G5267 to God ^G2316; 20 because ^G1360 by the works ^G2041 [fn]of the Law ^G3551 NO ^G3756 G3956 FLESH ^G4561 WILL BE JUSTIFIED ^G1344 IN ^G1799 HIS SIGHT ^G1799, for [fn]through ^G1223 the Law ^G3551 comes the knowledge ^G1922 of sin ^G266.

The Righteousness of God through Faith

21 But now ^G3570 apart ^G5565 [fn]from the Law ^G3551 the righteousness ^G1343 of God ^G2316 has been manifested ^G5319, being witnessed ^G3140 by the Law ^G3551 and the Prophets ^G4396,

22 even ^G1161 the righteousness ^G1343 of God ^G2316 through ^G1223 faith ^G4102 in Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547 for all ^G3956 those ^G3588 [fn]who believe ^G4100; for there is no ^G3756 distinction ^G1293; 23 for all ^G3956 [fn]have sinned ^G264 and fall ^G5302 short ^G5302 of the glory ^G1391 of God ^G2316, 24 being justified ^G1344 as a gift ^G1432 by His grace ^G5485 through ^G1223 the redemption ^G629 which is in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424; 25 whom ^G3739 God ^G2316 displayed ^G4388 publicly ^G4388 as a [fn]propitiation ^G2435 [fn]in His blood ^G129 through ^G1223 faith ^G4102, for a demonstration ^G1731 of His righteousness ^G1343, [fn]because ^G1223 in the forbearance ^G463 of God ^G2316 He passed ^G3929 over ^G3929 the sins ^G265 previously ^G4266 committed ^G4266; 26 for the demonstration ^G1732 of His righteousness ^G1343 at the present ^G3568 time ^G2540, so ^G1519 that He would be just ^G1342 and the justifier ^G1344 of the one who [fn]has faith ^G4102 in Jesus ^G2424.

27 Where ^G4226 then ^G3767 is boasting ^G2746? It is excluded ^G1576. By what ^G4169 kind ^G4169 of law ^G3551? Of works ^G2041? No ^G3780, but by a law ^G3551 of faith ^G4102. 28 [fn]For we maintain ^G3049 that a man ^G444 is justified ^G1344 by faith ^G4102 apart ^G5565 from works ^G2041 [fn]of the Law ^G3551. 29 Or ^G2228 is God ^G2316 the God of Jews ^G2453 only ^G3440? Is He not the God of Gentiles ^G1484 also ^G2532? Yes ^G3483, of Gentiles ^G1484 also ^G2532, 30 since ^G1512 indeed ^G1512 God ^G2316, who ^G3739 will justify ^G1344 the [fn]circumcised ^G4061 [fn]by faith ^G4102 and the [fn]uncircumcised ^G203 through ^G1223 that faith ^G4102, is one ^G1520.

31 Do we then ^G3767 abolish ^G2673 [fn]the Law ^G3551 through ^G1223 faith ^G4102? May it never ^G3361 be! On the contrary ^G235, we establish ^G2476 the Law ^G3551.
