The Spirit of God Dwells in You

1 Therefore ^G686 there is now ^G3568 no ^G3762 condemnation ^G2631 for those ^G3588 who are in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424.

2 For the law ^G3551 of the Spirit ^G4151 of life ^G2222 [fn]in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424 has set ^G1659 you free ^G1659 from the law ^G3551 of sin ^G266 and of death ^G2288. 3 For what ^G102 the Law ^G3551 could ^G102 not do, [fn]weak ^G770 as it was through ^G1223 the flesh ^G4561, God ^G2316 did: sending ^G3992 His own ^G1438 Son ^G5207 in the likeness ^G3667 of [fn]sinful ^G266 flesh ^G4561 and as an offering for sin ^G266, He condemned ^G2632 sin ^G266 in the flesh ^G4561, 4 so ^G2443 that the righteous ^G1345 requirement ^G1345 of the Law ^G3551 might be fulfilled ^G4137 in us, who do not walk ^G4043 according ^G2596 to the flesh ^G4561 but according ^G2596 to the Spirit ^G4151. 5 For those ^G3588 who are according ^G2596 to the flesh ^G4561 set ^G5426 their minds ^G5426 on ^G5426 the things of the flesh ^G4561, but those ^G3588 who are according ^G2596 to the Spirit ^G4151, the things of the Spirit ^G4151. 6 For the mind ^G5427 set ^G5427 on the flesh ^G4561 is death ^G2288, but the mind ^G5427 set ^G5427 on the Spirit ^G4151 is life ^G2222 and peace ^G1515, 7 because ^G1360 the mind ^G5427 set ^G5427 on the flesh ^G4561 is at enmity ^G2189 toward ^G1519 God ^G2316, for it does not subject ^G5293 itself to the law ^G3551 of God ^G2316, for it is not even ^G3761 able ^G1410 to do so, 8 and those ^G3588 who are in the flesh ^G4561 are not ^G3756 able ^G1410 to please ^G700 God ^G2316.

9 However ^G1161, you are not in the flesh ^G4561 but in the Spirit ^G4151, if ^G1512 indeed ^G1512 the Spirit ^G4151 of God ^G2316 dwells ^G3611 in you. But if ^G1487 anyone ^G5100 does not have ^G2192 the Spirit ^G4151 of Christ ^G5547, he does not belong ^G1510 to Him. 10 But if ^G1487 Christ ^G5547 is in you, though ^G3303 the body ^G4983 is dead ^G3498 because ^G1223 of sin ^G266, yet ^G1161 the spirit ^G4151 is [fn]alive ^G2222 because ^G1223 of righteousness ^G1343. 11 But if ^G1487 the Spirit ^G4151 of Him who raised ^G1453 Jesus ^G2424 from the dead ^G3498 dwells ^G3611 in you, He who raised ^G1453 Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424 from the dead ^G3498 will also ^G2532 give ^G2227 life ^G2227 to ^G2227 your mortal ^G2349 bodies ^G4983 [fn]through ^G1223 His Spirit ^G4151 who dwells ^G3611 in you.

12 So ^G686 then ^G686, brothers ^G80, we are under ^G3781 obligation ^G3781, not to the flesh ^G4561, to live ^G2198 according ^G2596 to the flesh ^G4561— 13 for if ^G1487 you are living ^G2198 according ^G2596 to the flesh ^G4561, you [fn]must ^G3195 die ^G599, but if ^G1487 by the Spirit ^G4151 you are putting ^G2289 to ^G2289 death ^G2289 the practices ^G4234 of the body ^G4983, you will live ^G2198. 14 For as ^G3745 many ^G3745 as ^G3745 are being led ^G71 by the Spirit ^G4151 of God ^G2316, these ^G3778 are sons ^G5207 of God ^G2316. 15 For you have not received ^G2983 a spirit ^G4151 of slavery ^G1397 [fn]leading ^G1519 to fear ^G5401 again ^G3825, but you have received ^G2983 the Spirit ^G4151 of adoption ^G5206 as ^G5206 sons ^G5206 by whom ^G3739 we cry ^G2896 out ^G2896, “Abba ^G5! Father ^G3962!” 16 The Spirit ^G4151 Himself ^G846 testifies ^G4828 with our spirit ^G4151 that we are children ^G5043 of God ^G2316, 17 and if ^G1487 children ^G5043, also ^G2532 heirs ^G2818, heirs ^G2818 of God ^G2316 and fellow ^G4789 heirs ^G4789 with Christ ^G5547, if ^G1512 indeed ^G1512 we suffer ^G4841 with Him so ^G2443 that we may also ^G2532 be glorified ^G4888 with Him.

Present Suffering and Future Glory

18 For I consider ^G3049 that the sufferings ^G3804 of this ^G3588 present ^G3568 time ^G2540 are not worthy ^G514 to be compared with the glory ^G1391 that is to be revealed ^G601 to us.

19 For the anxious ^G603 longing ^G603 of the creation ^G2937 eagerly ^G553 waits ^G553 for the revealing ^G602 of the sons ^G5207 of God ^G2316. 20 For the creation ^G2937 was subjected ^G5293 to futility ^G3153, not willingly ^G1635, but because ^G1223 of Him who subjected ^G5293 it, in hope ^G1680 21 [fn]that the creation ^G2937 itself ^G846 also ^G2532 will be set ^G1659 free ^G1659 from its slavery ^G1397 to corruption ^G5356 into the freedom ^G1657 of the glory ^G1391 of the children ^G5043 of God ^G2316. 22 For we know ^G6063 that the whole ^G3956 creation ^G2937 groans ^G4959 and suffers ^G4944 the ^G4944 pains ^G4944 of ^G4944 childbirth ^G4944 together ^G4959 G4944 until ^G891 now ^G3568. 23 And not only ^G3440 this, but also ^G2532 we ourselves ^G846, having ^G2192 the first ^G536 fruits ^G536 of the Spirit ^G4151, even ^G2532 we ourselves ^G846 groan ^G4727 within ^G1722 ourselves ^G1438, eagerly ^G553 waiting ^G553 for our adoption ^G5206 as ^G5206 sons ^G5206, the redemption ^G629 of our body ^G4983. 24 For in hope ^G1680 we were saved ^G4982, but hope ^G1680 that is seen ^G991 is not hope ^G1680, for who ^G5101 hopes ^G1680 for what ^G3739 he already sees ^G991? 25 But if ^G1487 we hope ^G1679 for what ^G3739 we do not see ^G991, with perseverance ^G5281 we eagerly ^G553 wait ^G553 for it.

26 And in the same ^G5615 way ^G5615 the Spirit ^G4151 also ^G2532 helps ^G4878 our weakness ^G769, for we do not know ^G6063 how ^G5101 to pray ^G4336 as we should ^G1163, but the Spirit ^G4151 Himself ^G846 intercedes ^G5241 for us with groanings ^G4726 too ^G215 deep ^G215 for words ^G215; 27 and He who searches ^G2045 the hearts ^G2588 knows ^G6063 what ^G5101 the mind ^G5427 of the Spirit ^G4151 is, because ^G3754 He intercedes ^G1793 for the [fn]saints ^G40 according ^G2596 to the will of God ^G2316.

28 And we know ^G6063 that for those ^G3588 who love ^G25 God ^G2316 [fn]all ^G3956 things ^G3956 work ^G4903 together ^G4903 for good ^G18, for those ^G3588 who are called ^G2822 according ^G2596 to His purpose ^G4286. 29 Because those ^G3739 whom ^G3739 He foreknew ^G4267, He also ^G2532 predestined ^G4309 to become conformed ^G4832 to the image ^G1504 of His Son ^G5207, so ^G1519 that He would be the firstborn ^G4416 among ^G1722 many ^G4183 brothers ^G80; 30 and those ^G3778 whom ^G3739 He predestined ^G4309, He also ^G2532 called ^G2564; and those ^G3778 whom ^G3739 He called ^G2564, He also ^G2532 justified ^G1344; and those ^G3778 whom ^G3739 He justified ^G1344, He also ^G2532 glorified ^G1392.

God Is for Us

31 What ^G5101 then ^G3767 shall we say ^G3004 to these ^G3778 things ^G3778? If ^G1487 God ^G2316 is for us, who ^G5101 is against ^G2596 us?

32 He who ^G3739 indeed ^G1065 did not spare ^G5339 His own ^G2398 Son ^G5207, but delivered ^G3860 Him over for us all ^G3956, how ^G4459 will He not also ^G2532 with Him graciously ^G5483 give ^G5483 us all ^G3956 things ^G3956? 33 Who ^G5101 will bring ^G1458 a charge ^G1458 against ^G2596 God’s ^G2316 elect ^G1588? God ^G2316 is the one who justifies ^G1344; 34 who ^G5101 is the one who condemns ^G2632? Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424 is He who died ^G599, yes ^G1161, rather ^G3123 who was [fn]raised ^G1453, who ^G3739 is at the right ^G1188 hand ^G1188 of God ^G2316, who ^G3739 also ^G2532 intercedes ^G1793 for us. 35 Who ^G5101 will separate ^G5563 us from the love ^G26 of [fn]Christ ^G5547? Will affliction ^G2347, or ^G2228 turmoil ^G4730, or ^G2228 persecution ^G1375, or ^G2228 famine ^G3042, or ^G2228 nakedness ^G1132, or ^G2228 peril ^G2794, or ^G2228 sword ^G3162? 36 Just ^G2531 as it is written ^G1125,

“FOR YOUR SAKE ^G6025 WE ARE BEING PUT ^G2289 TO DEATH ^G2289 ALL ^G3650 DAY ^G2250 LONG;

WE WERE COUNTED ^G3049 AS SHEEP ^G4263 FOR the SLAUGHTER ^G4967.”

37 But in all ^G3956 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 we overwhelmingly ^G5245 conquer ^G5245 through ^G1223 Him who loved ^G25 us. 38 For I am convinced ^G3982 that neither ^G3777 death ^G2288, nor ^G3777 life ^G2222, nor ^G3777 angels ^G32, nor ^G3777 rulers ^G746, nor ^G3777 things ^G1764 present ^G1764, nor ^G3777 things ^G3195 to ^G3195 come ^G3195, nor ^G3777 powers ^G1411, 39 nor ^G3777 height ^G5313, nor ^G3777 depth ^G899, nor ^G3777 any ^G5100 other ^G2087 created ^G2937 thing ^G2937, will be able ^G1410 to separate ^G5563 us from the love ^G26 of God ^G2316, which is in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424 our Lord ^G2962.
