1 I am telling ^G3004 the truth ^G225 in Christ ^G5547, I am not lying ^G5574, my conscience ^G4893 testifies ^G4828 with me in the Holy ^G40 Spirit ^G4151,

2 that I have great ^G3173 sorrow ^G3077 and unceasing ^G88 grief ^G3601 in my heart ^G2588. 3 For I could [fn]wish ^G2172 that I myself ^G846 were accursed ^G331, separated from Christ ^G5547 for ^G5228 the ^G5228 sake ^G5228 of my brothers ^G80, my kinsmen ^G4773 according ^G2596 to the flesh ^G4561, 4 who ^G3748 are Israelites ^G2475, to whom ^G3739 belongs the adoption ^G5206 as ^G5206 sons ^G5206, and the glory ^G1391 and the covenants ^G1242 and the giving ^G3548 of ^G3548 the ^G3548 Law ^G3548 and the temple service ^G2999 and the promises ^G1860, 5 whose ^G3739 are the fathers ^G3962, and from whom ^G3739 is the [fn]Christ ^G5547 according ^G2596 to the flesh ^G4561, who is God ^G2316 over ^G1909 all ^G3956, blessed ^G2128 [fn]forever ^G165. Amen ^G281.

6 But it is not as though ^G3754 the word ^G3056 of God ^G2316 has failed ^G1601. For they are not all ^G3956 Israel ^G2474 who ^G3588 are descended from Israel ^G2474; 7 nor ^G3761 are they all ^G3956 children ^G5043 because ^G3754 they are Abraham’s ^G11 seed ^G4690, but: “[fn]THROUGH ^G1722 ISAAC ^G2464 YOUR SEED ^G4690 WILL BE NAMED ^G2564.” 8 That is, the children ^G5043 of the flesh ^G4561 are not the children ^G5043 of God ^G2316, but the children ^G5043 of the promise ^G1860 are considered ^G3049 as seed ^G4690. 9 For this ^G3778 is the word ^G3056 of promise ^G1860: “AT THIS ^G3778 TIME ^G2540 I WILL COME ^G2064, AND SARAH ^G4564 SHALL HAVE ^G1510 A SON ^G5207.” 10 And not only ^G3440 this, but there was Rebekah ^G4479 also ^G2532, when she had conceived ^G2845 G2192 twins by one ^G1520 man ^G1520, our father ^G3962 Isaac ^G2464; 11 for though the twins were not yet ^G3380 born ^G1080 and had not done ^G4238 anything ^G5100 good ^G18 or ^G2228 bad ^G5337, so ^G2443 that the purpose ^G4286 of God ^G2316 according ^G2596 to His choice ^G1589 would [fn]stand ^G3306, not [fn]because ^G1537 of works ^G2041 but [fn]because ^G1537 of Him who calls ^G2564, 12 it was said ^G3004 to her, “THE OLDER ^G3173 SHALL SERVE ^G1398 THE YOUNGER ^G1640.” 13 Just ^G2509 as ^G2509 it is written ^G1125, “JACOB ^G2384 I LOVED ^G25, BUT ESAU ^G2269 I HATED ^G3404.”

14 What ^G5101 shall we say ^G3004 then ^G3767? Is there any unrighteousness ^G93 with God ^G2316? May it never ^G3361 be! 15 For He says ^G3004 to Moses ^G3475, “I WILL HAVE ^G1653 MERCY ^G1653 ON WHOM ^G3739 I HAVE ^G1653 MERCY ^G1653, AND I WILL HAVE ^G3627 COMPASSION ^G3627 ON WHOM ^G3739 I HAVE ^G3627 COMPASSION ^G3627.” 16 So ^G686 then ^G686 it does not depend on the one who wills ^G2309 or ^G3761 the one who runs ^G5143, but on God ^G2316 who has ^G1653 mercy ^G1653. 17 For the Scripture ^G1124 says ^G3004 to Pharaoh ^G5328, “FOR THIS ^G3778 VERY ^G846 PURPOSE I RAISED ^G1825 YOU UP ^G1825, IN ORDER TO DEMONSTRATE ^G1731 MY POWER ^G1411 IN YOU, AND IN ORDER THAT MY NAME ^G3686 MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED ^G1229 [fn]THROUGHOUT ^G1722 THE WHOLE ^G3956 EARTH ^G1093.” 18 So ^G686 then ^G686 He has ^G1653 mercy ^G1653 on whom ^G3739 He desires ^G2309, and He hardens ^G4645 whom ^G3739 He desires ^G2309.

19 You will say ^G3004 to me then ^G3767, “Why ^G5101 does He still ^G2089 find ^G3201 fault ^G3201? For who ^G5101 resists ^G436 His will ^G1013?” 20 On the contrary ^G3304, who ^G5101 are you, O ^G5599 man ^G444, who answers ^G470 back ^G470 to God ^G2316? WILL THE THING ^G4110 MOLDED ^G4110 SAY ^G3004 TO THE MOLDER ^G4111, “WHY ^G5101 DID YOU MAKE ^G4160 ME LIKE ^G3779 THIS ^G3779”? 21 Or ^G2228 does not the potter ^G2763 have ^G2192 authority ^G1849 over the clay ^G4081, to make ^G4160 from the same ^G846 lump ^G5445 one ^G3739 G3303 vessel ^G4632 [fn]for honorable ^G5092 use ^G5092 and another ^G3739 G1161 [fn]for dishonorable ^G819 use? 22 And [fn]what ^G1161 if ^G1487 God ^G2316, wanting ^G2309 to demonstrate ^G1731 His wrath ^G3709 and to make ^G1107 His power ^G1415 known ^G1107, endured ^G5342 with much ^G4183 patience ^G3115 vessels ^G4632 of wrath ^G3709 having been prepared ^G2675 for destruction ^G684, 23 and in order that He might make ^G1107 known ^G1107 the riches ^G4149 of His glory ^G1391 upon vessels ^G4632 of mercy ^G1656, which ^G3739 He prepared ^G4282 beforehand ^G4282 for glory ^G1391— 24 even us, whom ^G3739 He also ^G2532 called ^G2564, not from among ^G1537 Jews ^G2453 only ^G3440, but also ^G2532 from among ^G1537 Gentiles ^G1484? 25 As He says ^G3004 also ^G2532 in Hosea ^G5617,

“I WILL CALL ^G2564 THOSE ^G3588 WHO WERE NOT MY PEOPLE ^G2992, ‘MY PEOPLE ^G2992,’

AND HER WHO WAS NOT BELOVED ^G25, ‘BELOVED ^G25.’”

26 “AND IT SHALL BE THAT IN THE PLACE ^G5117 WHERE ^G3757 IT WAS SAID ^G3004 TO THEM, ‘YOU ARE NOT MY PEOPLE ^G2992,’

THERE ^G1563 THEY SHALL BE CALLED ^G2564 SONS ^G5207 OF THE LIVING ^G2198 GOD ^G2316.”

27 And Isaiah ^G2268 cries ^G2896 out ^G2896 concerning ^G5228 Israel ^G2474, “THOUGH ^G1437 THE NUMBER ^G706 OF THE SONS ^G5207 OF ISRAEL ^G2474 BE LIKE ^G5613 THE SAND ^G285 OF THE SEA ^G2281, IT IS THE REMNANT ^G2640 THAT WILL BE SAVED ^G4982; 28 FOR THE LORD ^G2962 WILL EXECUTE ^G4160 HIS WORD ^G3056 ON THE LAND ^G1093, [fn]THOROUGHLY ^G4931 AND [fn]QUICKLY ^G4932.” 29 And just ^G2531 as Isaiah ^G2268 foretold ^G4280,

“UNLESS ^G1508 THE LORD ^G2962 OF [fn]SABAOTH ^G4519 HAD LEFT ^G1459 TO US A SEED ^G4690,

WE WOULD HAVE BECOME ^G1096 LIKE ^G5613 SODOM ^G4670, AND WOULD HAVE [fn]RESEMBLED ^G3666 GOMORRAH ^G1116.”

30 What ^G5101 shall we say ^G3004 then ^G3767? That Gentiles ^G1484, who did not pursue ^G1377 righteousness ^G1343, laid ^G2638 hold ^G2638 of righteousness ^G1343, even ^G1161 the righteousness ^G1343 which is [fn]by faith ^G4102; 31 but Israel ^G2474, pursuing ^G1377 a law ^G3551 of righteousness ^G1343, did not attain ^G5348 that law ^G3551. 32 Why ^G1223 G5101? Because ^G3754 they did not pursue it [fn]by faith ^G4102, but as ^G5613 though ^G5613 it were [fn]by works ^G2041. They stumbled ^G4350 over ^G4350 the stumbling ^G4348 stone ^G3037, 33 just ^G2531 as it is written ^G1125,

“BEHOLD ^G2400, I AM LAYING ^G5087 IN ZION ^G4622 A STONE ^G3037 OF STUMBLING ^G4348 AND A ROCK ^G4073 OF OFFENSE ^G4625,

AND THE ONE WHO BELIEVES ^G4100 UPON HIM WILL NOT BE PUT ^G2617 TO ^G2617 SHAME ^G2617.”
