Woe to the Worthless Shepherd

1 Open ^H6605 your doors ^H1817, O Lebanon ^H3844,

That a fire ^H784 may consume ^H398 your cedars ^H730.

2 Wail ^H3213, O [fn]cypress ^H1265, for the cedar ^H730 has fallen ^H5307,

Because ^H834 the mighty ^H117 trees have been destroyed ^H7703;

Wail ^H3213, O oaks ^H437 of Bashan ^H1316,

For the [fn]impenetrable ^H1219 forest ^H3293 has come ^H3381 down ^H3381.

3 There is a sound ^H6963 of the shepherds’ ^H7462 wail ^H3215,

For their might ^H155 is destroyed ^H7703;

There is a sound ^H6963 of the young ^H3715 lions’ ^H3715 roar ^H7581,

For the [fn]pride ^H1347 of the Jordan ^H3383 is destroyed ^H7703.

4 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 my God ^H430, “Shepherd ^H7462 the flock ^H6629 doomed to slaughter ^H2028.

5 Those who ^H834 buy ^H7069 them slaughter ^H2026 them and are not ^H3808 held ^H816 guilty ^H816, and each of those who sell ^H4376 them says ^H559, ‘Blessed ^H1288 be Yahweh ^H3068. Indeed, I have become ^H6238 rich ^H6238!’ And their own shepherds ^H7462 do not ^H3808 spare ^H2550 them. 6 For I will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 spare ^H2550 the inhabitants ^H3427 of the land ^H776,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068; “but behold ^H2009, I will cause ^H4672 the men ^H120 to ^H4672 [fn]fall ^H4672, each ^H376 into another’s ^H7453 hand ^H3027 and into the hand ^H3027 of his king ^H4428; and they will crush ^H3807 the land ^H776, and I will not deliver ^H5337 them from their hand ^H3027.”

7 So I shepherded ^H7462 the flock ^H6629 doomed to slaughter ^H2028—[fn]hence ^H3651 the afflicted ^H6041 of the flock ^H6629. And I took ^H3947 for myself two ^H8147 staffs ^H4731: the one ^H259 I called ^H7121 [fn]Favor ^H5278, and the other ^H259 I called ^H7121 [fn]Union ^H2254; so I shepherded ^H7462 the flock ^H6629. 8 Then I annihilated ^H3582 the three ^H7969 shepherds ^H7462 in one ^H259 month ^H3391, for my soul ^H5315 was impatient ^H7114 with them, and their soul ^H5315 also ^H1571 [fn]was weary ^H973 of me. 9 Then I said ^H559, “I will not shepherd ^H7462 you. What is to die ^H4191, [fn]let it die ^H4191, and what is to be annihilated ^H3582, [fn]let it be annihilated ^H3582; and [fn]let those who remain ^H7604 consume ^H398 one ^H802 another’s ^H7468 flesh ^H1320.” 10 And I took ^H3947 my staff ^H4731 [fn]Favor ^H5278 and cut ^H1438 it in ^H1438 pieces ^H1438, to [fn]break ^H6565 my covenant ^H1285 which ^H834 I had cut ^H3772 with all ^H3605 the peoples ^H5971. 11 So it was [fn]broken ^H6565 on that day ^H3117, and [fn]thus ^H3651 the afflicted ^H6041 of the flock ^H6629 who were watching ^H8104 me knew ^H3045 that it was the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068. 12 And I said ^H559 to them, “If ^H518 it is good ^H2896 in your sight ^H5869, give ^H3051 me my wages ^H7939; but if ^H518 not, [fn]never ^H2308 mind ^H2308!” So they weighed ^H8254 out ^H8254 thirty ^H7970 [fn]shekels of silver ^H3701 as my wages ^H7939. 13 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “Throw ^H7993 it to the potter ^H3335, that valuable ^H145 price ^H3366 at which ^H834 I was valued ^H3365 by them.” So I took ^H3947 the thirty ^H7970 shekels of silver ^H3701 and threw ^H7993 them to the potter ^H3335 in the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068. 14 Then I cut ^H1438 in ^H1438 pieces ^H1438 my second ^H8145 staff ^H4731 [fn]Union ^H2254, to break ^H6565 the brotherhood ^H264 between ^H996 Judah ^H3063 and Israel ^H3478.

15 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “Take ^H3947 again ^H5750 for yourself the equipment ^H3627 of a [fn]foolish ^H196 shepherd ^H7462. 16 For behold ^H2009, I am going to raise ^H6965 up ^H6965 a shepherd ^H7462 in the land ^H776 who will not care ^H6485 for ^H6485 those who face annihilation ^H3582, seek ^H1245 the young ^H5289, heal ^H7495 the broken ^H7665, or sustain ^H3557 the one standing ^H5324, but will consume ^H398 the flesh ^H1320 of the fat ^H1277 sheep and tear ^H6561 off ^H6561 their hoofs ^H6541.

17 “Woe ^H1945 to the worthless ^H457 shepherd ^H7473

Who forsakes ^H5800 the flock ^H6629!

A sword ^H2719 will be on his arm ^H2220

And on his right ^H3225 eye ^H5869!

His arm ^H2220 will be totally ^H3001 dried ^H3001 up ^H3001,

And his right ^H3225 eye ^H5869 will be utterly dimmed ^H3543.”
