Genesis 9 – Legacy Standard Bible (LSB)

1 And God ^H430 blessed ^H1288 Noah ^H5146 and his sons ^H1121 and said ^H559 to them, “Be ^H6509 fruitful ^H6509 and multiply ^H7235, and fill ^H4390 the earth ^H776. 2 And the fear ^H4172 of you and the terror ^H2844 of you will be on every ^H3605 beast ^H2416 of the earth ^H776 and on every ^H3605 bird ^H5775 of the [fn]sky ^H8064; with everything ^H3605 that creeps ^H7430 on the ground ^H127, and all ^H3605 the fish ^H1709 of the sea ^H3220, into your hand ^H3027 they are given ^H5414. 3 Every ^H3605 moving ^H7431 thing ^H7431 that is alive ^H2416 shall be food ^H402 for you; as with the green ^H3418 plant ^H6212, I give ^H5414 all ^H3605 to you. 4 However ^H389, flesh ^H1320 with its life ^H5315, that is, its blood ^H1818, you shall not eat ^H398. 5 Surely ^H389 I will require ^H1875 [fn]your lifeblood ^H1818 H5315; [fn]from every ^H3605 living ^H2416 thing ^H2416 I will require ^H1875 it. And [fn]from every man ^H120, [fn]from each ^H376 man’s ^H376 brother ^H251 I will require ^H1875 the life ^H5315 of man ^H120.

6 “Whoever sheds ^H8210 man’s ^H120 blood ^H1818,

By man ^H120 his blood ^H1818 shall be shed ^H8210,

For in the image ^H6754 of God ^H430

He made ^H6213 man ^H120.

7 “As for you, be ^H6509 fruitful ^H6509 and multiply ^H7235;

[fn]Swarm ^H8317 on the earth ^H776 and multiply ^H7235 in it.”

8 Then God ^H430 spoke ^H559 to Noah ^H5146 and to his sons ^H1121 with him, saying ^H559, 9 “As for Me ^H589, behold ^H2009, I establish ^H6965 My covenant ^H1285 with you and with your seed ^H2233 after ^H310 you; 10 and with every ^H3605 living ^H2416 creature ^H5315 that is with you, the birds ^H5775, the cattle ^H929, and every ^H3605 beast ^H2416 of the earth ^H776 with you; of all ^H3605 that comes ^H3318 out ^H3318 of the ark ^H8392, even every ^H3605 beast ^H2416 of the earth ^H776. 11 Indeed I establish ^H6965 My covenant ^H1285 with you; and all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320 shall never ^H3808 again ^H5750 be cut ^H3772 off ^H3772 by the water ^H4325 of the flood ^H3999, and there shall never ^H3808 again ^H5750 be a flood ^H3999 to destroy ^H7843 the earth ^H776.” 12 Then God ^H430 said ^H559, “This ^H2088 is the sign ^H226 of the covenant ^H1285 which ^H834 I am giving ^H5414 to be between ^H996 Me and you and every ^H3605 living ^H2416 creature ^H5315 that is with you, for [fn]all ^H5769 successive ^H5769 generations ^H1755; 13 I put ^H5414 My bow ^H7198 in the cloud ^H6051, and it shall be for a sign ^H226 of a covenant ^H1285 between ^H996 Me and the earth ^H776. 14 And it will be ^H1961, when I bring ^H6049 a cloud ^H6051 over ^H5921 the earth ^H776, that the bow ^H7198 will be seen ^H7200 in the cloud ^H6051, 15 and I will remember ^H2142 My covenant ^H1285, which ^H834 is between ^H996 Me and you and every ^H3605 living ^H2416 creature ^H5315 of all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320; and never ^H3808 again ^H5750 shall the water ^H4325 become ^H1961 a flood ^H3999 to destroy ^H7843 all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320. 16 So the bow ^H7198 shall be in the cloud ^H6051, and I will look ^H7200 upon it, to remember ^H2142 the everlasting ^H5769 covenant ^H1285 between ^H996 God ^H430 and every ^H3605 living ^H2416 creature ^H5315 of all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320 that is on the earth ^H776.” 17 And God ^H430 said ^H559 to Noah ^H5146, “This ^H2088 is the sign ^H226 of the covenant ^H1285 which ^H834 I have established ^H6965 between ^H996 Me and all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320 that is on the earth ^H776.”

Noah’s Three Sons

18 Now the sons ^H1121 of Noah ^H5146 who went ^H3318 out ^H3318 of the ark ^H8392 were Shem ^H8035 and Ham ^H2526 and Japheth ^H3315; and Ham ^H2526 was the father ^H1 of Canaan ^H3667.

19 These ^H428 three ^H7969 were the sons ^H1121 of Noah ^H5146, and from these ^H428 the whole ^H3605 earth ^H776 was scattered ^H5310 abroad ^H5310.

20 Then Noah ^H5146 began ^H2490 to be [fn]a man ^H376 of the land ^H127 and planted ^H5193 a vineyard ^H3754. 21 And he drank ^H8354 of the wine ^H3196 and became ^H7937 drunk ^H7937 and uncovered ^H1540 himself inside ^H8432 his tent ^H168. 22 Then Ham ^H2526, the father ^H1 of Canaan ^H3667, saw ^H7200 the nakedness ^H6172 of his father ^H1 and told ^H5046 his two ^H8147 brothers ^H251 outside ^H2351. 23 But Shem ^H8035 and Japheth ^H3315 took ^H3947 the garment ^H8071 and laid ^H7760 it upon both ^H8147 their shoulders ^H7926 and walked ^H1980 backward ^H322 and covered ^H3680 the nakedness ^H6172 of their father ^H1; and their faces ^H6440 were turned ^H322 backward ^H322, so that they did not see ^H7200 their father’s ^H1 nakedness ^H6172. 24 Then Noah ^H5146 awoke ^H3364 from his wine ^H3196, and he knew ^H3045 what ^H834 his youngest ^H6996 son ^H1121 had done ^H6213 to him. 25 So he said ^H559,

“Cursed ^H779 be Canaan ^H3667;

[fn]A servant ^H5650 of servants ^H5650

He shall be to his brothers ^H251.”

26 And he said ^H559,

“Blessed ^H1288 be Yahweh ^H3068,

The God ^H430 of Shem ^H8035;

And let Canaan ^H3667 be [fn]his servant ^H5650.

27 “May God ^H430 enlarge ^H6601 Japheth ^H3315,

And let him dwell ^H7931 in the tents ^H168 of Shem ^H8035;

And let Canaan ^H3667 be [fn]his servant ^H5650.”

28 And Noah ^H5146 lived ^H2421 350 ^{H7969 H3967 H2572} years ^H8141 after ^H310 the flood ^H3999. 29 So all ^H3605 the days ^H3117 of Noah ^H5146 were 950 ^{H8672 H3967 H2572} years ^H8141, and he died ^H4191.
