Jeremiah Imprisoned

1 The word ^H1697 that came ^H1961 to Jeremiah ^H3414 from Yahweh ^H3068 in the tenth ^H6224 year ^H8141 of Zedekiah ^H6667 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, which ^H1931 was the eighteenth ^H8083 H6240 year ^H8141 of Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019.

6 And Jeremiah ^H3414 said ^H559, “The word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559, 7 ‘Behold ^H2009, Hanamel ^H2601 the son ^H1121 of Shallum ^H7967 your uncle ^H1730 is coming ^H935 to you, saying ^H559, “Buy ^H7069 for yourself my field ^H7704 which ^H834 is at Anathoth ^H6068, for you have the legal judgment ^H4941 for redemption ^H1353 to buy ^H7069 it.”’ 8 Then Hanamel ^H2601 my uncle’s ^H1730 son ^H1121 came ^H935 to me in the court ^H2691 of the guard ^H4307 according to the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 and said ^H559 to me, ‘Buy ^H7069 my field ^H7704, please ^H4994, that is at Anathoth ^H6068, which ^H834 is in the land ^H776 of Benjamin ^H1144; for you have the legal judgment ^H4941 for possession ^H3425, and the redemption ^H1353 is yours; buy ^H7069 it for yourself.’ Then I knew ^H3045 that this ^H1931 was the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068.

9 “I bought ^H7069 the field ^H7704 which ^H834 was at Anathoth ^H6068 from Hanamel ^H2601 my uncle’s ^H1730 son ^H1121, and I weighed ^H8254 out ^H8254 the silver ^H3701 for him, seventeen ^H7651 H6235 [fn]shekels ^H8255 of silver ^H3701. 10 And I [fn]signed ^H3789 and sealed ^H2856 the deed ^H5612 and called ^H5749 in ^H5749 witnesses ^H5707 and weighed ^H8254 out ^H8254 the silver ^H3701 on the scales ^H3976. 11 Then I took ^H3947 the deeds ^H5612 of purchase ^H4736, both the sealed ^H2856 copy containing the commandment ^H4687 and statutes ^H2706 and the open ^H1540 copy, 12 and I gave ^H5414 the deed ^H5612 of purchase ^H4736 to Baruch ^H1263 the son ^H1121 of Neriah ^H5374, the son ^H1121 of Mahseiah ^H4271, in the sight ^H5869 of Hanamel ^H2601 my uncle’s ^H1730 son and in the sight ^H5869 of the witnesses ^H5707 who signed ^H3789 the deed ^H5612 of purchase ^H4736, in the sight ^H5869 of all ^H3605 the Jews ^H3064 who were sitting ^H3427 in the court ^H2691 of the guard ^H4307. 13 And I commanded ^H6680 Baruch ^H1263 in their sight ^H5869, saying ^H559, 14 ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, “Take ^H3947 these ^H428 deeds ^H5612—this ^H2088 deed ^H5612 of purchase ^H4736—that is the sealed ^H2856 one as well as this ^H2088 open ^H1540 deed ^H5612, and put ^H5414 them in an earthenware ^H2789 jar ^H3627, that they may [fn]last ^H5975 a long ^H7227 time ^H3117.” 15 For thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, “Houses ^H1004 and fields ^H7704 and vineyards ^H3754 will again ^H5750 be bought ^H7069 in this ^H2088 land ^H776.”’

Jeremiah Prays, Yahweh Responds

16 “After ^H310 I had given ^H5414 the deed ^H5612 of purchase ^H4736 to Baruch ^H1263 the son ^H1121 of Neriah ^H5374, then I prayed ^H6419 to Yahweh ^H3068, saying ^H559,

17 ‘Ah ^H162 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068! Behold ^H2009, You have made ^H6213 the heavens ^H8064 and the earth ^H776 by Your great ^H1419 power ^H3581 and by Your outstretched ^H5186 arm ^H2220! Nothing ^{H3808 H3605 H1697} is ^H6381 too ^H4480 difficult ^H6381 for You, 18 who shows ^H6213 lovingkindness ^H2617 to thousands ^H505, but repays ^H7999 the iniquity ^H5771 of fathers ^H1 into the bosom ^H2436 of their children ^H1121 after ^H310 them, O great ^H1419 and mighty ^H1368 God ^H410. Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 is His name ^H8034, 19 great ^H1419 in counsel ^H6098 and abundant ^H7227 in deeds ^H5950, whose ^H834 eyes ^H5869 are open ^H6491 to all ^H3605 the ways ^H1870 of the sons ^H1121 of men ^H120, giving ^H5414 to everyone ^H376 according to his ways ^H1870 and according to the fruit ^H6529 of his deeds ^H4611, 20 who ^H834 has set ^H7760 signs ^H226 and wonders ^H4159 in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, and even to this ^H2088 day ^H3117 both in Israel ^H3478 and among mankind ^H120; and You have made ^H6213 a name ^H8034 for Yourself, as at this ^H2088 day ^H3117. 21 You brought ^H3318 Your people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478 out ^H3318 of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 with signs ^H226 and with wonders ^H4159, and with a strong ^H2389 hand ^H3027 and with an outstretched ^H5186 arm ^H2220 and with great ^H1419 terror ^H4172 22 and gave ^H5414 them this ^H2088 land ^H776, which ^H834 You swore ^H7650 to their fathers ^H1 to give ^H5414 them, a land ^H776 flowing ^H2100 with milk ^H2461 and honey ^H1706. 23 They came ^H935 in ^H935 and took ^H3423 possession ^H3423 of it, but they did not listen ^H8085 to Your voice ^H6963 and did not walk ^H1980 in Your law ^H8451. 26 Then the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to Jeremiah ^H3414, saying ^H559, 27 “Behold ^H2009, I am Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320; is ^H6381 anything ^H3605 H1697 too ^H4480 difficult ^H6381 for Me?” 28 Therefore ^H3651 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, “Behold ^H2009, I am about to give ^H5414 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 into the hand ^H3027 of the Chaldeans ^H3778 and into the hand ^H3027 of Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, and he will capture ^H3920 it. 29 And the Chaldeans ^H3778 who are fighting ^H3898 against ^H5921 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 will enter ^H935 and set ^H3341 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 on fire ^H784 and burn ^H8313 it, with the houses ^H1004 where ^H834 people have burned ^H6999 incense ^H6999 to Baal ^H1168 on their roofs ^H1406 and poured ^H5258 out ^H5258 drink ^H5262 offerings ^H5262 to other ^H312 gods ^H430 to provoke ^H3707 Me to ^H3707 anger ^H3707. 30 Indeed ^H3588 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 and the sons ^H1121 of Judah ^H3063 have been doing ^H6213 only ^H389 evil ^H7451 in My sight ^H5869 from their youth ^H5271; for the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 have been only ^H389 provoking ^H3707 Me to ^H3707 anger ^H3707 by the work ^H4639 of their hands ^H3027,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068. 31 “Indeed ^H3588 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 has been ^H1961 to Me a provocation of My anger ^H639 and My wrath ^H2534 from the day ^H3117 that they built ^H1129 it, even to this ^H2088 day ^H3117, so that it should be removed ^H5493 from before ^H5921 My face ^H6440 32 because ^H5921 of all ^H3605 the evil ^H7451 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 and the sons ^H1121 of Judah ^H3063 which ^H834 they have done ^H6213 to provoke ^H3707 Me to ^H3707 anger ^H3707—they, their kings ^H4428, their princes ^H8269, their priests ^H3548, their prophets ^H5030, the men ^H376 of Judah ^H3063, and the inhabitants ^H3427 of Jerusalem ^H3389. 33 And they have turned ^H6437 their back ^H6203 to Me and not their face ^H6440; though I taught ^H3925 them, rising ^H7925 up ^H7925 early ^H7925 and teaching ^H3925, they would not listen ^H8085 [fn]and receive ^H3947 discipline ^H4148. 34 But they put ^H7760 their detestable ^H8251 things ^H8251 in the house ^H1004 which ^H834 is called ^H7121 by My name ^H8034, to defile ^H2930 it. 35 And they built ^H1129 the high ^H1116 places ^H1116 of Baal ^H1168 that are in the valley ^H1516 of Ben-hinnom ^H1121 H2011 to cause their sons ^H1121 and their daughters ^H1323 to pass ^H5674 through ^H5674 the fire to Molech ^H4432, which ^H834 I had not commanded ^H6680 them, nor ^H3808 had it come ^H5927 upon My heart ^H3820 that they should do ^H6213 this ^H2088 abomination ^H8441, to cause Judah ^H3063 to sin ^H2398.

36 “So now ^H6258, therefore ^H3651 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, concerning ^H413 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 of which ^H834 you are saying ^H559, ‘It is given ^H5414 into the hand ^H3027 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 by sword ^H2719, by famine ^H7458, and by pestilence ^H1698.’ 37 Behold ^H2009, I will gather ^H6908 them out of all ^H3605 the lands ^H776 to which ^H834 I have banished ^H5080 them in My anger ^H639, in My wrath ^H2534, and in great ^H1419 indignation ^H7110; and I will cause ^H7725 them to return ^H7725 to this ^H2088 place ^H4725 and make them inhabit ^H3427 it in safety ^H983. 38 And they shall be My people ^H5971, and I will be their God ^H430; 39 and I will give ^H5414 them one ^H259 heart ^H3820 and one ^H259 way ^H1870, that they may fear ^H3372 Me always ^H3605 H3117, for their own good ^H2896 and for the good of their children ^H1121 after ^H310 them. 40 And I will cut ^H3772 an everlasting ^H5769 covenant ^H1285 with them that I will not turn ^H7725 away ^H7725 from them, to do ^H3190 them good ^H3190; and I will put ^H5414 the fear ^H3374 of Me in their hearts ^H3824 so that they will not turn ^H5493 away ^H5493 from Me. 41 And I will rejoice ^H7797 over ^H5921 them to do ^H3190 them good ^H3190 and will truly ^H571 plant ^H5193 them in this ^H2088 land ^H776 with all ^H3605 My heart ^H3820 and with all ^H3605 My soul ^H5315. 42 For thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, ‘Just ^H834 as I brought ^H935 all ^H3605 this ^H2088 great ^H1419 evil ^H7451 on this ^H2088 people ^H5971, so ^H3651 I am going to bring ^H935 on them all ^H3605 the good ^H2896 that I am promising ^H1696 them. 43 Thus fields ^H7704 will be bought ^H7069 in this ^H2088 land ^H776 of which ^H834 you all are saying ^H559, “It is a desolation ^H8077, without ^H369 man ^H120 or beast ^H929; it is given ^H5414 into the hand ^H3027 of the Chaldeans ^H3778.” 44 Men will buy ^H7069 fields ^H7704 for money ^H3701, [fn]sign ^H3789 and seal ^H2856 deeds ^H5612, and call ^H5749 in ^H5749 witnesses ^H5707 in the land ^H776 of Benjamin ^H1144, in the surroundings ^H5439 of Jerusalem ^H3389, in the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063, in the cities ^H5892 of the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022, in the cities ^H5892 of the [fn]Shephelah ^H8219, and in the cities ^H5892 of the [fn]Negev ^H5045; for I will [fn]return ^H7725 their [fn]fortunes ^H7622,’ declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.”
