Children of God Love One Another

1 See ^G3708 [fn]how ^G4217 great ^G4217 a love ^G26 the Father ^G3962 has given ^G1325 us, that we would be called ^G2564 children ^G5043 of God ^G2316; and in fact we are. For this ^G3778 reason ^G1223 the world ^G2889 does not know ^G1097 us: because ^G3754 it did not know ^G1097 Him.

2 Beloved ^G27, now ^G3568 we are children ^G5043 of God ^G2316, and it has not appeared ^G5319 as yet ^G3768 what ^G5101 we will be. We know ^G6063 that when ^G1437 He appears ^G5319, we will be like ^G3664 Him, because ^G3754 we will see ^G3708 Him just ^G2531 as ^G2531 He is. 3 And everyone ^G3956 who has ^G2192 this ^G3778 hope ^G1680 set on Him purifies ^G48 himself ^G1438, just ^G2531 as ^G2531 He is pure ^G53.

The Son ^G5207 of God ^G2316 appeared ^G5319 for this ^G3778 purpose, to destroy ^G3089 the works ^G2041 of the devil ^G1228. 9 No ^G3956 G3756 one ^G3956 who has been born ^G1080 of God ^G2316 practices ^G4160 sin ^G266, because ^G3754 His seed ^G4690 remains ^G3306 in him; and he cannot ^G1410 G3756 sin ^G264 continually, because ^G3754 he has been born ^G1080 of God ^G2316. 10 By this ^G3778 the children ^G5043 of God ^G2316 and the children ^G5043 of the devil ^G1228 are obvious ^G5318: [fn]anyone ^G3956 who does not practice ^G4160 righteousness ^G1343 is not of God ^G2316, nor ^G2532 the one who does not love ^G25 his brother ^G80 and sister.

11 For this ^G3778 is the message ^G31 which ^G3739 you have heard ^G191 from the beginning ^G746, that we are to love ^G25 one ^G240 another ^G240; 12 not as Cain ^G2535, who was of the evil ^G4190 one ^G4190 and murdered ^G4969 his brother ^G80. And for what ^G5101 reason ^G5484 did he murder ^G4969 him? Because ^G3754 his own deeds ^G2041 were evil ^G4190, but his brother’s ^G80 were righteous ^G1342.

13 Do not be ^G2296 surprised ^G2296, brothers ^G80 and sisters, if ^G1487 the world ^G2889 hates ^G3404 you. 14 We know ^G6063 that we have passed ^G3327 out of death ^G2288 into life ^G2222, because ^G3754 we love ^G25 the brothers ^G80 and sisters. The one who does not love ^G25 remains ^G3306 in death ^G2288. 15 Everyone ^G3956 who hates ^G3404 his brother ^G80 or sister is a murderer ^G443, and you know ^G6063 that no ^G3956 G3756 murderer ^G443 has ^G2192 eternal ^G166 life ^G2222 remaining ^G3306 in him. 16 We know ^G1097 love ^G26 by this ^G3778, that He laid ^G5087 down ^G5087 His life ^G5590 for us; and we ought ^G3784 to lay ^G5087 down ^G5087 our lives ^G5590 for the brothers ^G80 and sisters. 17 But whoever ^G3739 G302 has ^G2192 worldly ^G2889 goods ^G979 and sees ^G2334 his brother ^G80 or sister in need ^G5532, and closes ^G2808 his [fn]heart ^G4698 [fn]against ^G575 him, how ^G4459 does the love ^G26 of God ^G2316 remain ^G3306 in him? 18 Little ^G5040 children ^G5040, let’s not love ^G25 with word ^G3056 or ^G3366 with tongue ^G1100, but in deed ^G2041 and truth ^G225. 19 We will know ^G1097 by this ^G3778 that we are of the truth ^G225, and will set ^G3982 our heart ^G2588 at ^G3982 ease ^G3982 before ^G1715 Him, 20 that if ^G1437 our heart ^G2588 condemns ^G2607 us, that God ^G2316 is greater ^G3173 than our heart ^G2588, and He knows ^G1097 all ^G3956 things ^G3956. 21 Beloved ^G27, if ^G1437 our heart ^G2588 does not condemn ^G2607 us, we have ^G2192 confidence ^G3954 [fn]before ^G4314 God ^G2316; 22 and whatever ^G3739 G1437 we ask ^G154, we receive ^G2983 from Him, because ^G3754 we keep ^G5083 His commandments ^G1785 and do ^G4160 the things that are pleasing ^G701 in ^G1799 His sight ^G1799.

23 This ^G3778 is His commandment ^G1785, that we [fn]believe ^G4100 in the name ^G3686 of His Son ^G5207 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547, and love ^G25 one ^G240 another ^G240, just ^G2531 as ^G2531 He [fn]commanded ^G1325 G1785 us. 24 The one who keeps ^G5083 His commandments ^G1785 remains ^G3306 in Him, and He in him. We know ^G1097 by this ^G3778 that He remains ^G3306 in us, by the Spirit ^G4151 whom ^G3739 He has given ^G1325 us.
