God Answers the Prophet

1 I will stand ^H5975 at my guard ^H4931 post ^H4931

And station ^H3320 myself on the watchtower ^H4692;

And I will keep ^H6822 watch ^H6822 to see ^H7200 what ^H4100 He will say ^H1696 to me,

And how ^H4100 I may reply ^H7725 [fn]when ^H5921 I am reprimanded ^H8433.

2 Then the LORD ^H3068 answered ^H6030 me and said ^H559,

“Write ^H3789 down ^H3789 the vision ^H2377

And inscribe ^H874 it clearly ^H874 on tablets ^H3871,

So ^H4616 that ^H4616 one who [fn]reads ^H7121 it may run ^H7323.

3 “For the vision ^H2377 is yet ^H5750 for the appointed ^H4150 time ^H4150;

It [fn]hurries ^H6315 toward the goal ^H7093 and it will not [fn]fail ^H3576.

Though ^H518 it delays ^H4102, wait ^H2442 for it;

For it will certainly ^H935 come ^H935, it will not delay ^H309 long.

4 “Behold ^H2009, as for the impudent ^H6075 one,

His soul ^H5315 is ^H3474 not right ^H3474 within him;

But the righteous ^H6662 one ^H6662 will live ^H2421 by his [fn]faith ^H530.

5 “Furthermore ^H637, wine ^H3196 betrays ^H898 an arrogant ^H3093 man ^H1397,

So that he does not achieve ^H5115 his objective ^H5115.

He enlarges ^H7337 his appetite ^H5315 like Sheol ^H7585,

And he is like death ^H4194, never ^H3808 satisfied ^H7646.

He also gathers ^H622 to himself all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471

And collects ^H622 to himself all ^H3605 the peoples ^H5971.

6 “Will all ^H3605 of these ^H428 not take ^H5375 up ^H5375 a song ^H4912 of ^H4912 ridicule ^H4912 against ^H5921 him,

Even a saying ^H4426 and insinuations ^H2420 against him

And say ^H559, ‘Woe ^H1945 to him who increases ^H7235 what is not his—

For how ^H4970 long ^H5704 H4970—

And makes ^H3513 himself [fn]rich ^H3513 with debts ^H5671!’

7 “Will [fn]your creditors ^H5391 not rise ^H6965 up ^H6965 suddenly ^H6621,

And those who [fn]collect ^H2111 from you awaken ^H3364?

Indeed, you will become ^H1961 plunder ^H4933 for them.

8 “Since ^H3588 you have looted ^H7997 many ^H7227 nations ^H1471,

All ^H3605 the rest ^H3499 of the peoples ^H5971 will loot ^H7997 you—

Because ^H4480 of human ^H120 bloodshed ^H1818 and violence ^H2555 [fn]done to the land ^H776,

To the town ^H7151 and all ^H3605 its inhabitants ^H3427.

9 “Woe ^H1945 to him who makes ^H1214 evil ^H7451 profit ^H1215 for his household ^H1004,

To put ^H7760 his nest ^H7064 on high ^H4791,

To be saved ^H5337 from the hand ^H3709 of catastrophe ^H7451!

10 “You have planned ^H3289 a shameful ^H1322 thing ^H1322 for your house ^H1004

By bringing ^H7096 many ^H7227 peoples ^H5971 to ^H7096 an ^H7096 end ^H7096;

So you are sinning ^H2398 against yourself ^H5315.

11 “For the stone ^H68 will cry ^H2199 out ^H2199 from the wall ^H7023,

And the rafter ^H3714 will answer ^H6030 it from the [fn]framework ^H6086.

12 “Woe ^H1945 to him who builds ^H1129 a city ^H5892 with bloodshed ^H1818,

And founds ^H3559 a town ^H7151 with [fn]violence ^H5766!

13 “Is it not indeed ^H2009 from the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635

That peoples ^H5971 labor ^H3021 merely for fire ^H784,

And nations ^H3816 become ^H3286 weary ^H3286 for nothing ^H7385?

14 “For the earth ^H776 will be filled ^H4390

With the knowledge ^H3045 of the glory ^H3519 of the LORD ^H3068,

As the waters ^H4325 cover ^H3680 the sea ^H3220.

15 “Woe ^H1945 to him who makes ^H8248 his neighbor ^H7453 drink ^H8248;

[fn]To you who mix ^H5596 in your venom ^H2534 even ^H637 to make ^H7937 your neighbors drunk ^H7937,

So ^H4616 as ^H4616 to look ^H5027 at their genitalia ^H4589!

16 “You will be filled ^H7646 with disgrace ^H7036 rather ^H4480 than ^H4480 honor ^H3519.

Drink ^H8354, you yourself ^H1571, and [fn]expose ^H6188 your own foreskin ^H6188!

The cup ^H3563 in the LORD’S ^H3068 right ^H3225 hand ^H3225 will come ^H5437 around ^H5437 to you,

17 “For the violence ^H2555 [fn]done to Lebanon ^H3844 will [fn]overwhelm ^H3680 you,

And the devastation ^H7701 of its animals ^H929 [fn]by which you terrified ^H2865 them,

Because ^H4480 of human ^H120 bloodshed ^H1818 and violence ^H2555 [fn]done to the land ^H776,

To the town ^H7151 and all ^H3605 its inhabitants ^H3427.

18 “What ^H4100 benefit ^H3276 is a carved ^H6459 image ^H6459 when ^H3588 its maker ^H3335 has carved ^H6458 it,

Or a cast ^H4541 metal ^H4541 image ^H4541, a teacher ^H3384 of falsehood ^H8267?

For its maker ^H3335 trusts ^H982 in his own handiwork ^H3336

When he fashions ^H6213 speechless ^H483 idols ^H457.

19 “Woe ^H1945 to him who says ^H559 to a piece of wood ^H6086, ‘Awake ^H6974!’

To a mute ^H1748 stone ^H68, ‘Arise ^H5782!’

That is your teacher ^H3384?

Behold ^H2009, it is overlaid ^H8610 with gold ^H2091 and silver ^H3701,

Yet there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 breath ^H7307 at all ^H3605 inside ^H7130 it.

20 “But the LORD ^H3068 is in His holy ^H6944 temple ^H1964.

[fn]Let all ^H3605 the earth ^H776 be silent ^H2013 before ^H4480 H6440 Him.”
