God’s Wrath against Nations

1 Come ^H7126 near ^H7126, you nations ^H1471, to hear ^H8085; and listen ^H7181, you peoples ^H3816!

Let the earth ^H776 and [fn]all ^H4393 it contains ^H4393 hear ^H8085, and the world ^H8398 and all ^H3605 that springs ^H6631 from it.

2 For the LORD’S ^H3068 anger ^H7110 is against ^H5921 all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471,

And His wrath ^H2534 against ^H5921 all ^H3605 their armies ^H6635.

He has [fn]utterly ^H2763 destroyed ^H2763 them,

He has turned ^H5414 them over ^H5414 to slaughter ^H2874.

3 So their slain ^H2491 will be thrown ^H7993 out ^H7993,

And their corpses ^H6297 [fn]will give ^H5927 off ^H5927 their stench ^H889,

And the mountains ^H2022 will [fn]be drenched ^H4549 with their blood ^H1818.

4 And all ^H3605 the heavenly ^H8064 [fn]lights ^H6635 will [fn]wear ^H4743 away ^H4743,

And the sky ^H8064 will be rolled ^H1556 up ^H1556 like a scroll ^H5612;

All ^H3605 its [fn]lights ^H6635 will also wither ^H5034 away ^H5034

As a leaf ^H5929 withers ^H5034 from the vine ^H1612,

Or as one withers ^H5034 from the fig ^H8384 tree ^H8384.

5 For My sword ^H2719 has drunk ^H7301 its fill ^H7301 in heaven ^H8064;

Behold ^H2009 it shall descend ^H3381 for judgment ^H4941 upon Edom ^H123,

And upon the people ^H5971 whom I have designated ^H2764 for ^H2764 destruction ^H4941.

6 The sword ^H2719 of the LORD ^H3068 is filled ^H4390 with blood ^H1818,

It drips ^H1878 with fat ^H2459, with the blood ^H1818 of lambs ^H3733 and goats ^H6260,

With the fat ^H2459 of the kidneys ^H3629 of rams ^H352.

For the LORD ^H3068 has a sacrifice ^H2077 in Bozrah ^H1224,

And a great ^H1419 slaughter ^H2874 in the land ^H776 of Edom ^H123.

7 Wild ^H7214 oxen ^H7214 will also [fn]fall ^H3381 with them

And young ^H6499 bulls ^H6499 with strong ^H47 ones ^H47;

So their land ^H776 will be soaked ^H7301 with blood ^H1818,

And their dust ^H6083 [fn]become ^H1878 greasy ^H1878 with fat ^H2459.

8 For the LORD ^H3068 has a day ^H3117 of vengeance ^H5359,

A year ^H8141 of retribution ^H7966 for the [fn]cause ^H7379 of Zion ^H6726.

9 [fn]Its streams ^H5158 will be turned ^H2015 into pitch ^H2203,

And its loose ^H6083 earth ^H6083 into brimstone ^H1614,

And its land ^H776 will become ^H1961 burning ^H1197 pitch ^H2203.

10 It will not be extinguished ^H3518 night ^H3915 or day ^H3119;

Its smoke ^H6227 will go ^H5927 up ^H5927 forever ^H5769.

From generation ^H1755 to generation ^H1755 it will be desolate ^H2717;

None ^H369 will pass ^H5674 through it forever ^H5331 and ever ^H5331.

11 But [fn]pelican ^H6893 and hedgehog ^H7090 will possess ^H3423 it,

Whom they may proclaim ^H7121 king ^H4410—

And all ^H3605 its officials ^H8269 will be nothing ^H657.

13 Thorns ^H5518 will come ^H5927 up ^H5927 in its fortified ^H4013 towers ^H759,

Weeds ^H7057 and thistles ^H2336 in its fortified ^H4013 cities ^H4013;

It will also be a haunt ^H5116 of jackals ^H8565

And a habitat ^H2691 of ostriches ^H3284.

14 The desert ^H6728 creatures ^H6728 will meet ^H6298 with the [fn]wolves ^H338,

The [fn]goat ^H8163 also will cry ^H7121 to its kind ^H7453.

Yes ^H389, the [fn]night-bird ^H3917 will settle ^H7280 there ^H8033

And will find ^H4672 herself a resting ^H4494 place ^H4494.

15 The tree ^H7091 snake ^H7091 will make ^H7077 its nest ^H7077 and lay ^H4422 eggs there ^H8033,

And it will hatch ^H1234 and gather ^H1716 them under its [fn]protection ^H6738.

Yes ^H389, the [fn]hawks ^H1772 will be gathered ^H6908 there ^H8033,

Every ^H802 one ^H376 with its kind ^H7468.

16 Seek ^H1875 from the book ^H5612 of the LORD ^H3068, and read ^H7121:

Not one ^H259 of these ^H2007 will be ^H5737 missing ^H5737;

None ^H802 H3808 will lack ^H6485 its mate ^H7468.

For [fn]His mouth ^H6310 has commanded ^H6680,

And His Spirit ^H7307 has gathered ^H6908 them.

17 He has cast ^H5307 the lot ^H1486 for them,

And His hand ^H3027 has divided ^H2505 it to them by the measuring ^H6957 line ^H6957.

They shall possess ^H3423 it forever ^H5704 H5769;

From generation ^H1755 to generation ^H1755 they will dwell ^H7931 in it.
