Separation from God

1 Behold ^H2005, the LORD’S ^H3068 hand ^H3027 is not so ^H4480 short ^H7114

That ^H4480 it cannot ^H4480 save ^H3467;

Nor ^H3808 is ^H3513 His ear ^H241 so ^H4480 dull ^H3513

That ^H4480 it cannot ^H4480 hear ^H8085.

2 But your wrongdoings ^H5771 have caused ^H914 a ^H914 separation ^H914 between ^H996 you and your God ^H430,

And your sins ^H2403 have hidden ^H5641 His [fn]face ^H6440 from you so ^H4480 that ^H4480 He does not ^H4480 hear ^H8085.

3 For your hands ^H3709 are defiled ^H1351 with blood ^H1818,

And your fingers ^H676 with wrongdoing ^H5771;

Your lips ^H8193 have spoken ^H1696 deceit ^H8267,

Your tongue ^H3956 mutters ^H1897 wickedness ^H5766.

4 No ^H369 one ^H369 sues ^H7121 righteously ^H6664 and no ^H369 one ^H369 pleads ^H8199 [fn]honestly ^H530.

They trust ^H982 in confusion ^H8414 and speak ^H1696 lies ^H7723;

They conceive ^H2029 trouble ^H5999 and give ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to disaster ^H205.

5 They hatch ^H1234 vipers’ ^H6848 eggs ^H1000 and weave ^H707 the spider’s ^H5908 web ^H6980;

The one who eats ^H398 of their eggs ^H1000 dies ^H4191,

And from what is crushed ^H2115, a snake ^H660 breaks ^H1234 out ^H1234.

6 Their webs ^H6980 will not become ^H1961 clothing ^H899,

Nor ^H3808 will they cover ^H3680 themselves with their works ^H4639;

Their works ^H4639 are works ^H4639 of wrongdoing ^H205,

And an act ^H6467 of violence ^H2555 is in their [fn]hands ^H3709.

7 Their feet ^H7272 run ^H7323 to evil ^H7451,

And they hurry ^H4116 to shed ^H8210 innocent ^H5355 blood ^H1818;

Their thoughts ^H4284 are thoughts ^H4284 of wrongdoing ^H205,

Devastation ^H7701 and destruction ^H7667 are in their paths ^H4546.

8 They do not know ^H3045 the way ^H1870 of peace ^H7965,

And there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 justice ^H4941 in their tracks ^H4570;

They have made ^H6140 their paths ^H5410 crooked ^H6140,

Whoever ^H3605 walks ^H1869 on [fn]them does not know ^H3045 peace ^H7965.

A Confession of Wickedness

9 Therefore ^H5921 H3651 justice ^H4941 is ^H7368 far ^H7368 from us,

And righteousness ^H6666 does not reach ^H5381 us;

We hope ^H6960 for light ^H216, but there ^H2009 is darkness ^H2822,

For brightness ^H5054, but we walk ^H1980 in gloom ^H653.

10 We grope ^H1659 for the wall ^H7023 like people ^H5787 who are blind ^H5787,

We grope ^H1659 like those who have ^H369 no ^H369 eyes ^H5869.

We stumble ^H3782 at midday ^H6672 as in the twilight ^H5399;

Among those who are healthy ^H820 we are like the dead ^H4191.

11 All ^H3605 of us growl ^H1993 like bears ^H1677,

And moan ^H1897 sadly ^H1897 like doves ^H3123;

We hope ^H6960 for justice ^H4941, but there ^H369 is ^H369 none ^H369;

For salvation ^H3444, but it is ^H7368 far ^H7368 from us.

12 For our wrongful ^H6588 acts ^H6588 have multiplied ^H7231 before ^H5048 You,

And our sins ^H2403 have testified ^H6030 against us;

For our wrongful ^H6588 acts ^H6588 are with us,

And [fn]we know ^H3045 our wrongdoings ^H5771:

13 [fn]Offending ^H6586 and denying ^H3584 the LORD ^H3068,

And turning ^H5472 away ^H5472 from our God ^H430,

Speaking ^H1696 oppression ^H6233 and revolt ^H5627,

Conceiving ^H2029 and uttering ^H1897 lying ^H8267 words ^H1697 from the heart ^H3820.

14 Justice ^H4941 is turned ^H5472 back ^H268,

And righteousness ^H6666 stands ^H5975 far ^H7350 away ^H4480;

For truth ^H571 has stumbled ^H3782 in the street ^H7339,

And uprightness ^H5228 cannot ^H3201 H3808 enter ^H935.

15 Truth ^H571 is ^H5737 lacking ^H5737,

And one who turns ^H5493 aside ^H5493 from evil ^H7451 makes ^H7997 himself a prey ^H7997.

Now the LORD ^H3068 saw ^H7200,

And it was [fn]displeasing ^H7489 in His sight ^H5869 that there ^H369 was ^H369 no ^H369 justice ^H4941.

16 And He saw ^H7200 that there ^H369 was ^H369 no ^H369 one ^H376,

And was amazed ^H8074 that there ^H369 was ^H369 not ^H369 one ^H369 to intercede ^H6293;

Then His own arm ^H2220 brought ^H3467 salvation ^H3467 to Him,

And His righteousness ^H6666 upheld ^H5564 Him.

17 He put ^H3847 on ^H3847 righteousness ^H6666 like a breastplate ^H8302,

And a helmet ^H3553 of salvation ^H3444 on His head ^H7218;

And He put ^H3847 on ^H3847 garments ^H899 of vengeance ^H5359 for clothing ^H8516

And wrapped ^H5844 Himself with zeal ^H7068 as a cloak ^H4598.

18 According ^H5921 to their deeds ^H1578, [fn]so ^H5921 will He repay ^H7999:

Wrath ^H2534 to His adversaries ^H6862, [fn]retribution ^H1576 to His enemies ^H340;

To the coastlands ^H339 He will [fn]deal ^H7999 [fn]retribution ^H1576.

19 So they will fear ^H3372 the name ^H8034 of the LORD ^H3068 from the west ^H4628

And His glory ^H3519 from the rising ^H4217 of the sun ^H8121,

For He will come ^H935 like a [fn]rushing ^H6862 stream ^H5104

Which the wind ^H7307 of the LORD ^H3068 drives ^H5127.

20 “A Redeemer ^H1350 will come ^H935 to Zion ^H6726,

And to those in Jacob ^H3290 who turn ^H7725 from wrongdoing ^H6588,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068.

21 “As for Me, this ^H2088 is My covenant ^H1285 with them,” says ^H559 the LORD ^H3068: “My Spirit ^H7307 who ^H834 is upon you, and My words ^H1697 which ^H834 I have put ^H7760 in your mouth ^H6310 shall not depart ^H4185 from your mouth ^H6310, nor ^H3808 from the mouth ^H6310 of your [fn]offspring ^H2233, nor ^H3808 from the mouth ^H6310 of your [fn]offspring’s ^H2233 offspring ^H2233,” says ^H559 the LORD ^H3068, “from now ^H6258 and forever ^H5704 H5769.”
