Judgment Must Come
1 Then the LORD H3068 said H559 to me, “Even if H518 Moses H4872 and Samuel H8050 were to stand H5975 before H6440 Me, My [fn]heart H5315 would not be [fn]with this H2088 people H5971. Send H7971 them away H7971 from My presence H6440 and have them go H3318!
2 And it shall be that when H3588 they say H559 to you, ‘Where H575 should we go H3318?’ then you are to tell H559 them, ‘This H3541 is H3541 what H3541 the LORD H3068 says H559:
“Those destined for death H4194, to death H4194;
And those destined for the sword H2719, to the sword H2719;
And those destined for famine H7458, to famine H7458;
And those destined for captivity H7628, to captivity H7628.”’
3 And I will appoint H6485 over H5921 them four H702 kinds H4940 of doom,” declares H5002 the LORD H3068: “the sword H2719 to kill H2026, the dogs H3611 to drag H5498 away H5498, and the birds H5775 of the sky H8064 and the animals H929 of the earth H776 to devour H398 and destroy H7843. 4 I will make H5414 them an object H2113 of H2113 terror H2113 among all H3605 the kingdoms H4467 of the earth H776 because H1558 of Manasseh H4519, the son H1121 of Hezekiah H2396, the king H4428 of Judah H3063, for what H834 he did H6213 in Jerusalem H3389.
5 “Indeed H3588, who H4310 will have H2550 pity H2550 on you, Jerusalem H3389,
Or who H4310 will mourn H5110 for you,
Or who H4310 will turn H5493 aside H5493 to ask H7592 about your welfare H7965?
6 “You who have forsaken H5203 Me,” declares H5002 the LORD H3068,
“You keep going H1980 backward H268.
So I will stretch H5186 out H5186 My hand H3027 against H5921 you and destroy H7843 you;
I am H3811 tired H3811 of relenting H5162!
7 “I will winnow H2219 them with a winnowing H4214 fork H4214
At the gates H8179 of the land H776;
I will bereave H7921 them of H7921 children H7921, I will destroy H6 My people H5971;
They did not [fn]repent H7725 of their ways H1870.
8 “Their widows H490 will be H6105 more H4480 numerous H6105 before Me
Than H4480 the sand H2344 of the seas H3220;
I will bring H935 against them, against H5921 the mother H517 of a young H970 man H970,
A destroyer H7703 at noon H6672;
I will suddenly H6597 bring H5307 down H5307 on her
9 “She who gave H3205 birth H3205 to seven H7651 sons withers H535 away H535;
[fn]Her breathing H5315 is H5301 labored H5301.
Her sun H8121 has set H935 while it was still H5750 day H3119;
She has been shamed H954 and humiliated H2659.
So I will turn H5414 over H5414 their survivors H7611 to the sword H2719
Before H6440 their enemies H340,” declares H5002 the LORD H3068.
10 Woe H188 to me, my mother H517, that you have given H3205 birth H3205 to me
As a man H376 of strife H7379 and a man H376 of contention H4066 to all H3605 the land H776!
I have not lent H5383, nor H3808 have people lent H5383 money to me,
Yet everyone H3605 curses H7043 me.
11 The LORD H3068 said H559, “I will certainly H518 H3808 set H8281 you free H8281 for purposes of good H2896;
I will certainly H518 H3808 make the enemy H340 plead H6293 with you
In a time H6256 of disaster H7451 and a time H6256 of distress H6869.
12 “Can anyone smash H7489 iron H1270,
Iron H1270 from the north H6828, or bronze H5178?
13 “I will give H5414 your wealth H2428 and your treasures H214
As plunder H957 without H3808 cost H4242,
And within all H3605 your borders H1366.
14 “Then I will make your enemies H340 bring H5674 your possessions
Into a land H776 that you do not know H3045;
For a fire H784 has been H6919 kindled H6919 in My anger H639,
And it will burn H3344 upon you.”
Jeremiah’s Prayer and God’s Answer
15 You know H3045, LORD H3068;
Remember H2142 me, take H6485 notice H6485 of me,
And take H5358 vengeance H5358 for me on my persecutors H7291.
Do not, in view of Your patience H750, take H3947 me away;
Know H3045 that for H5921 Your sake H5921 I endure H5375 reproach H2781.
16 Your words H1697 were found H4672 and I ate H398 them,
And Your words H1697 became H1961 a joy H8342 to me and the delight H8057 of my heart H3824;
For I have been called H7121 by Your name H8034,
LORD H3068 God H430 of armies H6635.
17 I did not sit H3427 in a circle H5475 of revelers H7832 and celebrate H5937.
Because H4480 H6440 of Your hand H3027 upon me I sat H3427 alone H910,
For You filled H4390 me with indignation H2195.
18 Why H4100 has my pain H3511 been H1961 endless H5331
And my wound H4347 incurable H605, refusing H3985 to be healed H7495?
Will You indeed H1961 be to me like H3644 a deceptive H391 stream
With water H4325 that is unreliable H539 H3808?
19 Therefore H3651, this H3541 is H3541 what H3541 the LORD H3068 says H559:
“If H518 you return H7725, then I will restore H7725 you—
You will stand H5975 before H6440 Me;
And if H518 you extract H3318 the precious H3368 from the worthless H2151,
You will become H1961 [fn]My spokesman H6310.
They, for their part H1992, may turn H7725 to you,
But as for you, you are not to turn H7725 to them.
20 “Then I will make H5414 you to this H2088 people H5971
A fortified H1219 wall H2346 of bronze H5178;
And though they fight H3898 against H413 you,
They will not prevail H3201 over you;
For I am with you to save H3467 you
And rescue H5337 you,” declares H5002 the LORD H3068.
21 “So I will rescue H5337 you from the hand H3027 of the wicked H7451,
And I will redeem H6299 you from the [fn]grasp H3709 of the violent H6184.”
