Prophecy of the Captivity

1 The word ^H1697 that came ^H1961 to Jeremiah ^H3414 concerning ^H5921 all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 of Judah ^H3063, in the fourth ^H7243 year ^H8141 of Jehoiakim ^H3079 the son ^H1121 of Josiah ^H2977, king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 (that was the first ^H7224 year ^H8141 of Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894),

2 the word which ^H834 Jeremiah ^H3414 the prophet ^H5030 spoke ^H1696 to all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 of Judah ^H3063 and to all ^H3605 the inhabitants ^H3427 of Jerusalem ^H3389, saying ^H559, 3 “From the thirteenth ^H7969 H6240 year ^H8141 of Josiah ^H2977 the son ^H1121 of Amon ^H526, king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, even to this ^H2088 day ^H3117, [fn]these ^H2088 twenty-three ^H6242 H7969 years ^H8141 the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 has come ^H1961 to me, and I have spoken ^H1696 to you again ^H7925 and again ^H1696, but you have not listened ^H8085. 4 And the LORD ^H3068 has sent ^H7971 to you all ^H3605 His servants ^H5650 the prophets ^H5030 again ^H7925 and again ^H7971, but you have not listened ^H8085 nor ^H3808 inclined ^H5186 your ear ^H241 to hear ^H8085, 5 saying ^H559, ‘Turn ^H7725 now ^H4994, everyone ^H376 from his evil ^H7451 way ^H1870 and from the evil ^H7455 of your deeds ^H4611, and live ^H3427 on the land ^H127 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 has given ^H5414 to you and your forefathers ^H1 forever ^H4480 H5769 and ever ^H5769; 6 and do not follow ^H1980 H310 other ^H312 gods ^H430 to [fn]serve ^H5647 them and to [fn]worship ^H2331 them, and do not provoke ^H3707 Me to ^H3707 anger ^H3707 with the work ^H4639 of your hands ^H3027, then I will do ^H7489 you no ^H3808 harm ^H7489.’ 7 Yet you have not listened ^H8085 to Me,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068, “in ^H4616 order ^H4616 to ^H4616 provoke ^H3707 Me to ^H3707 anger ^H3707 with the work ^H4639 of your hands ^H3027 to your own harm ^H7451.

8 “Therefore ^H3651 this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635 says ^H559: ‘Because ^H3282 H834 you have not obeyed ^H8085 My words ^H1697, 9 behold ^H2009, I will send ^H7971 and take ^H3947 all ^H3605 the families ^H4940 of the north ^H6828,’ declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068, ‘and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, My servant ^H5650, and will bring ^H935 them against ^H5921 this ^H2088 land ^H776 and against ^H5921 its inhabitants ^H3427 and against ^H5921 all ^H3605 these ^H428 surrounding ^H5439 nations ^H1471; and I will [fn]completely ^H2763 destroy ^H2763 them and make ^H7760 them an object ^H8047 of ^H8047 horror ^H8047 and [fn]hissing ^H8322, and an everlasting ^H5769 place ^H2723 of ^H2723 ruins ^H2723. 10 Moreover, I will eliminate ^H6 from them the voice ^H6963 of jubilation ^H8342 and the voice ^H6963 of joy ^H8057, the voice ^H6963 of the groom ^H2860 and the voice ^H6963 of the bride ^H3618, the sound ^H6963 of the millstones ^H7347 and the light ^H216 of the lamp ^H5216. 11 This ^H2088 entire ^H3605 land ^H776 will be a place ^H2723 of ^H2723 ruins ^H2723 and an object ^H8047 of ^H8047 horror ^H8047, and these ^H428 nations ^H1471 will serve ^H5647 the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 for seventy ^H7657 years ^H8141.

Babylon Will Be Judged

12 ‘Then it will be when seventy ^H7657 years ^H8141 are completed ^H4390 I will punish ^H6485 the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 and that nation ^H1471,’ declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068, ‘for their wrongdoing ^H5771, and the land ^H776 of the Chaldeans ^H3778; and I will make ^H7760 it an everlasting ^H5769 desolation ^H8077.

13 I will bring ^H935 upon that land ^H776 all ^H3605 My words ^H1697 which ^H834 I have pronounced ^H1696 against ^H5921 it, all ^H3605 that is written ^H3789 in this ^H2088 book ^H5612 which ^H834 Jeremiah ^H3414 has prophesied ^H5012 against ^H5921 all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471. 14 ([fn]For many ^H7227 nations ^H1471 and great ^H1419 kings ^H4428 will make ^H5647 slaves ^H5647 of them, even ^H1571 them; and I will repay ^H7999 them according to their deeds ^H6467 and according to the work ^H4639 of their hands ^H3027.)’”

15 For this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, says ^H559 to me: “Take ^H3947 this ^H2088 cup ^H3563 of the wine ^H3196 of wrath ^H2534 from My hand ^H3027 and give ^H8248 it to all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471 to whom ^H834 I send ^H7971 you, to ^H8248 drink ^H8248 from it. 16 Then they will drink ^H8354 and loudly ^H1607 vomit ^H1607 and act ^H1984 insanely ^H1984 because ^H4480 H6440 of the sword ^H2719 that I am going to send ^H7971 among ^H996 them.”

17 So I took ^H3947 the cup ^H3563 from the LORD’S ^H3068 hand ^H3027 and gave ^H8248 it to all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471 to whom ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 sent ^H7971 me, to ^H8248 drink ^H8248 from it: 18 To Jerusalem ^H3389 and the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063, and its kings ^H4428 and its officials ^H8269, to make ^H5414 them places ^H2723 of ^H2723 ruins ^H2723, objects ^H8047 of ^H8047 horror ^H8047, [fn]hissing ^H8322, and a curse ^H7045, as it is this ^H2088 day ^H3117; 19 To Pharaoh ^H6547 king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714, his servants ^H5650, his officials ^H8269, and all ^H3605 his people ^H5971; 20 and to all ^H3605 the foreign ^H6154 [fn]people ^H6154, all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of the land ^H776 of Uz ^H5780, all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of the land ^H776 of the Philistines ^H6430 (that is, Ashkelon ^H831, Gaza ^H5804, Ekron ^H6138, and the remnant ^H7611 of Ashdod ^H795); 21 To Edom ^H123, Moab ^H4124, and the sons ^H1121 of Ammon ^H5983; 22 and to all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of Tyre ^H6865, all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of Sidon ^H6721, and the kings ^H4428 of the coastlands ^H339 which ^H834 are beyond ^H5676 the sea ^H3220; 23 and to Dedan ^H1719, Tema ^H8485, Buz ^H938, and all ^H3605 who trim ^H7112 the corners ^H6285 of their hair; 24 and to all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of Arabia ^H6152 and all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of the foreign ^H6154 [fn]people ^H6154 who live ^H7931 in the desert ^H4057; 25 and to all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of Zimri ^H2174, all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of Elam ^H5867, and all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of Media ^H4074; 26 and to all ^H3605 the kings ^H4428 of the north ^H6828, near ^H7138 and far ^H7350, one ^H376 with another ^H251; and all ^H3605 the kingdoms ^H4467 of the earth ^H776 which ^H834 are on the face ^H6440 of the ground ^H127; and the king ^H4428 of [fn]Sheshach ^H8347 shall drink ^H8354 it after ^H310 them.

27 “And you shall say ^H559 to them, ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478 says ^H559: “Drink ^H8354, be ^H7937 drunk ^H7937, vomit ^H7006, fall ^H5307 down, and do not get ^H6965 up ^H6965, because ^H4480 H6440 of the sword ^H2719 which ^H834 I am sending ^H7971 among ^H996 you.”’ 28 And if ^H3588 they refuse ^H3985 to take ^H3947 the cup ^H3563 from your hand ^H3027 to drink ^H8354, then you shall say ^H559 to them, ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635 says ^H559: “You shall certainly ^H8354 drink ^H8354! 29 For behold ^H2009, I am beginning ^H2490 to inflict ^H7489 disaster ^H7489 on this city ^H5892 which ^H834 is called ^H7121 by My name ^H8034, so should you be ^H5352 completely ^H5352 free ^H5352 from ^H5352 punishment ^H5352? You will not be ^H5352 free ^H5352 from ^H5352 punishment ^H5352, for I am summoning ^H7121 a sword ^H2719 against ^H5921 all ^H3605 the inhabitants ^H3427 of the earth ^H776,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635.’

30 “Therefore you shall prophesy ^H5012 against ^H413 them all ^H3605 these ^H428 words ^H1697, and you shall say ^H559 to them,

‘The LORD ^H3068 will roar ^H7580 from on high ^H4791

And raise ^H5414 His voice ^H6963 from His holy ^H6944 dwelling ^H4583;

He will roar ^H7580 forcefully ^H7580 against ^H5921 His [fn]fold ^H5116.

He will shout ^H1959 like those who tread ^H1869 the grapes,

Against ^H413 all ^H3605 the inhabitants ^H3427 of the earth ^H776.

31 ‘A clamor ^H7588 has come ^H935 to the end ^H7097 of the earth ^H776,

Because ^H3588 the LORD ^H3068 has a controversy ^H7379 with the nations ^H1471.

He is entering ^H8199 into ^H8199 judgment ^H8199 with [fn]humanity ^H1320;

As for the wicked ^H7563, He has turned ^H5414 them over ^H5414 to the sword ^H2719,’ declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068.”

32 This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635 says ^H559:

“Behold ^H2009, evil ^H7451 is going ^H3318 out ^H3318

From nation ^H1471 to nation ^H1471,

And a great ^H1419 storm ^H5591 is being stirred ^H5782 up ^H5782

From the remotest ^H3411 parts ^H3411 of the earth ^H776.

33 “Those put ^H2491 to ^H2491 death ^H2491 by the LORD ^H3068 on that day ^H3117 will be from one end ^H7097 of the earth ^H776 to the [fn]other ^H7097 H776. They will not be mourned ^H5594, gathered ^H622, or buried ^H6912; they will be like dung ^H1828 on the face ^H6440 of the ground ^H127.

34 “Wail ^H3213, you shepherds ^H7462, and cry ^H2199 out ^H2199;

Wallow ^H6428 in the dust, you masters ^H117 of the flock ^H6629;

For the days ^H3117 of your slaughter ^H2873 and your dispersions ^H8600 [fn]have come ^H4390,

And you will fall ^H5307 like a precious ^H2532 vessel ^H3627.

35 “[fn]There will be no sanctuary ^H4498 for the shepherds ^H7462,

Nor escape ^H6413 for the masters ^H117 of the flock ^H6629.

36 “Hear the sound ^H6963 of the cry ^H6818 of the shepherds ^H7462,

And the wailing ^H3215 of the masters ^H117 of the flock ^H6629!

For the LORD ^H3068 is destroying ^H7703 their pasture ^H4830,

37 And the peaceful ^H7965 grazing ^H5116 places ^H5116 are ^H1826 devastated ^H1826

Because ^H4480 H6440 of the fierce ^H2740 anger ^H639 of the LORD ^H3068.

38 “He has left ^H5800 His hiding ^H5520 place ^H5520 like the lion ^H3715;

For their land ^H776 has become ^H1961 a horror ^H8047

Because ^H4480 H6440 of the fierceness ^H2740 of the [fn]oppressing ^H3238 sword

And because ^H4480 H6440 of His fierce ^H2740 anger ^H639.”
