The Coming Destruction of Jerusalem

1 “Flee ^H5756 to ^H5756 safety ^H5756, you sons ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144,

From the midst ^H7130 of Jerusalem ^H3389!

Blow ^H8628 a trumpet ^H7782 in Tekoa ^H8620

And raise ^H5375 a warning signal ^H4864 over ^H5921 [fn]Beth-haccerem ^H1021;

For evil ^H7451 looks ^H8259 down ^H8259 from the north ^H6828,

Along with a great ^H1419 destruction ^H7667.

2 “The beautiful ^H5000 and delicate ^H6026 one, the daughter ^H1323 of Zion ^H6726, I will destroy ^H1820.

3 “Shepherds ^H7462 and their flocks ^H5739 will come ^H935 to her,

They will pitch ^H8628 their tents ^H168 [fn]around ^H5439 her,

They will pasture ^H7462, each ^H376 in his [fn]place ^H3027.

4 ‘[fn]Prepare ^H6942 for war ^H4421 against ^H5921 her;

Arise ^H6965, and let’s [fn]attack ^H5927 at noon ^H6672.

Woe ^H188 to us, for the day ^H3117 declines ^H6437,

For the shadows ^H6738 of the evening ^H6153 lengthen ^H5186!

5 ‘Arise ^H6965, and let’s [fn]attack ^H5927 by night ^H3915

And destroy ^H7843 her [fn]palaces ^H759!’”

6 For this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635 says ^H559:

“Cut ^H3772 down ^H3772 her trees ^H6097

And pile ^H8210 up ^H8210 an assault ^H5550 ramp ^H5550 against ^H5921 Jerusalem ^H3389.

This ^H1931 is the city ^H5892 to be punished ^H6485,

In whose midst ^H7130 there is only ^H3605 oppression ^H6233.

7 “As a well ^H953 [fn]keeps ^H6979 its waters ^H4325 fresh ^H6979,

So ^H3651 she [fn]keeps ^H6979 fresh ^H6979 her wickedness ^H7451.

Violence ^H2555 and destruction ^H7701 are heard ^H8085 in her;

Sickness ^H2483 and wounds ^H4347 are constantly ^H8548 before ^H5921 H6440 Me.

8 “Be warned ^H3256, Jerusalem ^H3389,

Or ^H6435 [fn]I shall be alienated ^H3363 from you,

And make ^H7760 you a desolation ^H8077,

“They will thoroughly ^H5953 glean ^H5953 the remnant ^H7611 of Israel ^H3478 like the vine ^H1612;

Like a grape ^H1219 gatherer ^H1219.”

10 To whom ^H4310 shall I speak ^H1696 and give ^H5749 warning ^H5749,

That they may hear ^H8085?

Behold ^H2009, the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 has become ^H1961 for them a rebuke ^H2781;

13 “For from the least ^H6996 of them to the greatest ^H1419 of them,

And from the prophet ^H5030 to the priest ^H3548

14 “They have healed ^H7495 the brokenness ^H7667 of My people ^H5971 superficially ^H5921 H7043,

Saying ^H559, ‘Peace ^H7965, peace ^H7965,’

15 “Were ^H954 they ashamed ^H954 because ^H3588 of the abomination ^H8441 they had done ^H6213?

Nor ^H1571 did they know ^H3045 even ^H1571 how to be ashamed ^H3637.

Therefore ^H3651 they will fall ^H5307 among those who fall ^H5307;

At the time ^H6256 that I punish ^H6485 them,

They will collapse ^H3782,” says ^H559 the LORD ^H3068.

16 This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Stand ^H5975 by the ways ^H1870 and see ^H7200 and ask ^H7592 for the ancient ^H5769 paths ^H5410,

Where ^H335 the good ^H2896 way ^H1870 is, and walk ^H1980 in it;

Then you will find ^H4672 a resting ^H4771 place ^H4771 for your souls ^H5315.

But they said ^H559, ‘We will not walk ^H1980 in it.’

17 “And I set ^H6965 watchmen ^H6822 over ^H5921 you, saying,

‘Listen ^H7181 to the sound ^H6963 of the trumpet ^H7782!’

But they said ^H559, ‘We will not listen ^H7181.’

18 “Therefore ^H3651 hear ^H8085, you nations ^H1471,

And know ^H3045, you congregation ^H5712, what ^H834 is among them.

19 “Hear ^H8085, earth ^H776: behold ^H2009, I am bringing ^H935 disaster ^H7451 on this ^H2088 people ^H5971,

The fruit ^H6529 of their [fn]plans ^H4284,

Because ^H3588 H5921 they have not listened ^H7181 to My words ^H1697,

And as for My Law ^H8451, they have rejected ^H3988 it also.

20 “For what ^H4100 purpose ^H2088 does frankincense ^H3828 come ^H935 to Me from Sheba ^H7614,

And the [fn]sweet ^H2896 cane ^H7070 from a distant ^H4801 land ^H776?

Your burnt ^H5930 offerings ^H5930 are not acceptable ^H7522

And your sacrifices ^H2077 are not pleasing ^H6149 to Me.”

21 Therefore ^H3651, this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Behold ^H2009, I am [fn]placing ^H5414 stumbling ^H4383 blocks ^H4383 before ^H413 this ^H2088 people ^H5971.

And they will stumble ^H3782 against them,

Fathers ^H1 and sons ^H1121 together ^H3162;

Neighbor ^H7934 and [fn]friend ^H7453 will perish ^H6.”

The Enemy from the North

22 This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Behold ^H2009, there is a people ^H5971 coming ^H935 from the north ^H6828 land ^H776,

And a great ^H1419 nation ^H1471 will be stirred ^H5782 up ^H5782 from the remote ^H3411 parts ^H3411 of the earth ^H776.

23 “They seize ^H2388 bow ^H7198 and spear ^H3591;

They are cruel ^H394 and have ^H7355 no ^H3808 mercy ^H7355;

Their voice ^H6963 roars ^H1993 like the sea ^H3220,

And they ride ^H7392 on horses ^H5483,

Lined ^H6186 up ^H6186 as a man ^H376 for the battle ^H4421

Against ^H5921 you, daughter ^H1323 of Zion ^H6726!”

24 We have heard ^H8085 the report ^H8089 of it;

Our hands ^H3027 are ^H7503 limp ^H7503.

Anguish ^H6869 has seized ^H2388 us,

Pain ^H2427 like that of a woman in ^H3205 childbirth ^H3205.

25 Do not go ^H3318 out ^H3318 into the field ^H7704,

And do not walk ^H1980 on the road ^H1870;

For the enemy ^H340 has a sword ^H2719,

Terror ^H4032 is on every ^H5439 side ^H5439.

26 Daughter ^H1323 of my people ^H5971, put ^H2296 on ^H2296 sackcloth ^H8242

And roll ^H6428 in ashes ^H665;

[fn]Mourn ^H60 as for an only ^H3173 son ^H3173,

A most ^H8563 bitter ^H8563 mourning ^H4553.

For suddenly ^H6597 the destroyer ^H7703

Will come ^H935 against ^H935 us.

27 “I have made ^H5414 you an assayer ^H969 and an examiner ^H1219 among My people ^H5971,

So that you may know ^H3045 and put ^H974 their way ^H1870 to ^H974 the ^H974 test ^H974.”

28 All ^H3605 of them are stubbornly ^H5637 rebellious ^H5637,

Going ^H1980 about ^H1980 as a slanderer ^H7400;

They are bronze ^H5178 and iron ^H1270.

They are, all ^H3605 of them, corrupt ^H7843.

29 The bellows ^H4647 blow ^H2787 fiercely ^H2787,

The lead ^H5777 is consumed ^H8552 by the fire ^H800;

In vain ^H7723 the refining ^H6884 goes ^H6884 on ^H6884,

But the wicked ^H7451 are not [fn]separated ^H5423.

30 They call ^H7121 them rejected ^H3988 silver ^H3701,

Because ^H3588 the LORD ^H3068 has rejected ^H3988 them.
