Precepts and Warnings

1 Do not be ^H7065 envious ^H7065 of evil ^H7451 people ^H376,

Nor ^H408 desire ^H183 to be with them;

2 For their [fn]minds ^H3820 plot ^H1897 violence ^H7701,

And their lips ^H8193 talk ^H1696 of trouble ^H5999.

3 By wisdom ^H2451 a house ^H1004 is built ^H1129,

And by understanding ^H8394 it is established ^H3559;

4 And by knowledge ^H1847 the rooms ^H2315 are filled ^H4390

With all ^H3605 precious ^H3368 and pleasant ^H5273 riches ^H1952.

5 A wise ^H2450 man ^H1397 is [fn]strong ^H5797,

And a person ^H376 of knowledge ^H1847 [fn]increases ^H553 power ^H3581.

6 For by wise ^H8458 guidance ^H8458 you will [fn]wage ^H6213 war ^H4421,

And in an abundance ^H7230 of counselors ^H3289 there is victory ^H8668.

7 Wisdom ^H2451 is too exalted ^H7311 for a fool ^H191,

He does not open ^H6605 his mouth ^H6310 at the gate ^H8179.

8 One who plans ^H2803 to do ^H7489 evil ^H7489,

People will call ^H7121 a [fn]schemer ^H1167 H4209.

9 The devising ^H2154 of foolishness ^H200 is sin ^H2403,

And the scoffer ^H3887 is an abomination ^H8441 to humanity ^H120.

10 If you show ^H7503 yourself ^H7503 lacking ^H7503 courage ^H7503 on the day ^H3117 of distress ^H6869,

Your strength ^H3581 is meager ^H6862.

11 Rescue ^H5337 those who are being taken ^H3947 away to death ^H4194,

And those who are staggering ^H4131 to the slaughter ^H2027, Oh ^H518 hold ^H2820 them back ^H2820!

12 If ^H3588 you say ^H559, “See ^H2005, we did not know ^H3045 this ^H2088,”

Does He who weighs ^H8505 the hearts ^H3820 not consider ^H995 it?

And does He who watches ^H5341 over ^H5341 your soul ^H5315 not know ^H3045 it?

And will He not [fn]repay ^H7725 a person ^H120 according to his work ^H6467?

13 My son ^H1121, eat ^H398 honey ^H1706, for it is good ^H2896;

Yes, the honey ^H5317 from ^H5317 the ^H5317 comb ^H5317 is sweet ^H4966 to your taste ^H2441;

14 Know ^H3045 that wisdom ^H2451 is the same ^H3651 for your soul ^H5315;

21 My son ^H1121, [fn]fear ^H3372 the LORD ^H3068 and the king ^H4428;

Do not get ^H6148 involved ^H6148 with those [fn]of high ^H8132 rank ^H8132,

22 For their disaster ^H343 will rise ^H6965 suddenly ^H6597,

And who ^H4310 knows ^H3045 the ruin ^H6365 that can come from both ^H8147 of them?

23 These ^H428 also ^H1571 are sayings of the wise ^H2450:

To [fn]show ^H5234 partiality ^H5234 H6440 in judgment ^H4941 is not good ^H2896.

24 One who says ^H559 to the wicked ^H7563, “You are righteous ^H6662,”

Peoples ^H5971 will curse ^H6895 him, nations ^H3816 will scold ^H2194 him;

25 But for those who rebuke ^H3198 the wicked there will be ^H5276 delight ^H5276,

And a good ^H2896 blessing ^H1293 will come ^H935 upon them.

26 One who gives ^H7725 [fn]a right ^H5228 answer ^H1697

Kisses ^H5401 the lips ^H8193.

27 Prepare ^H3559 your work ^H4399 outside ^H2351,

And make ^H6257 it ready ^H6257 for yourself in the field ^H7704;

Afterward ^H310, then, build ^H1129 your house ^H1004.

28 Do not be a witness ^H5707 against your neighbor ^H7453 for ^H2600 no ^H2600 reason ^H2600,

And do not deceive ^H6601 with your lips ^H8193.

29 Do ^H6213 not say ^H559, “I shall do ^H6213 the same ^H3651 to him as he has done ^H6213 to me;

I will [fn]repay ^H7725 the person ^H376 according to his work ^H6467.”

30 I passed ^H5674 by the field ^H7704 of [fn]a lazy ^H6102 one ^H6102,

And by the vineyard ^H3754 of a person ^H120 lacking ^H2638 [fn]sense ^H3820,

31 And behold ^H2009, it was completely ^H3605 overgrown ^H5927 with weeds ^H7057;

Its surface ^H6440 was covered ^H3680 with weeds ^H2738,

And its stone ^H68 wall ^H1447 was broken ^H2040 down ^H2040.

32 When I saw ^H2372, I [fn]reflected ^H7896 H3820 upon it;

I looked ^H7200, and received ^H3947 instruction ^H4148.

33 “A little ^H4592 sleep ^H8142, a little ^H4592 slumber ^H8572,

A little ^H4592 folding ^H2264 of the hands ^H3027 to rest ^H7901,”

34 Then your poverty ^H7389 will come ^H935 like [fn]a drifter ^H1980,

And your need ^H4270 like [fn]an armed ^H4043 man ^H376.
