Divisions of the Levites

1 Now the divisions ^H4256 of the [fn]descendants ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 were these: the sons ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 were Nadab ^H5070, Abihu ^H30, Eleazar ^H499, and Ithamar ^H385.

2 But Nadab ^H5070 and Abihu ^H30 died ^H4191 before ^H6440 their father ^H1 and had ^H1961 no ^H3808 [fn]sons ^H1121. So Eleazar ^H499 and Ithamar ^H385 served ^H3547 as ^H3547 priests ^H3547. 3 David ^H1732, with Zadok ^H6659 of the sons ^H1121 of Eleazar ^H499 and Ahimelech ^H288 of the sons ^H1121 of Ithamar ^H385, divided ^H2505 them according to their offices ^H6486 [fn]for their ministry ^H5656. 4 Since more ^H7227 chief ^H7218 men ^H1397 were found ^H4672 from the [fn]descendants ^H1121 of Eleazar ^H499 than ^H4480 the [fn]descendants ^H1121 of Ithamar ^H385, they divided ^H2505 them this way: there were sixteen ^H8337 H6240 heads ^H7218 of fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004 of the [fn]descendants ^H1121 of Eleazar ^H499, and eight ^H8083 of the [fn]descendants ^H1121 of Ithamar ^H385 according to their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004. 5 So they were divided ^H2505 by lot ^H1486, the one ^H428 as the other ^H428; for they were officers ^H8269 of the sanctuary ^H6944 and officers ^H8269 of God ^H430, both from the [fn]descendants ^H1121 of Eleazar ^H499 and the [fn]descendants ^H1121 of Ithamar ^H385. 6 Shemaiah ^H8098, the son ^H1121 of Nethanel ^H5417 the scribe ^H5608, from the Levites ^H3881, recorded ^H3789 them in the presence ^H6440 of the king ^H4428, the leaders ^H8269, Zadok ^H6659 the priest ^H3548, Ahimelech ^H288 the son ^H1121 of Abiathar ^H54, and the heads ^H7218 of the fathers’ ^H1 households of the priests ^H3548 and the Levites ^H3881; one ^H259 father’s ^H1 household ^H1004 taken ^H270 for Eleazar ^H499 and one taken ^H270 for Ithamar ^H385.

7 Now the first ^H7223 lot ^H1486 came ^H3318 out ^H3318 for Jehoiarib ^H3080, the second ^H8145 for Jedaiah ^H3048, 8 the third ^H7992 for Harim ^H2766, the fourth ^H7243 for Seorim ^H8188, 9 the fifth ^H2549 for Malchijah ^H4441, the sixth ^H8345 for Mijamin ^H4326, 10 the seventh ^H7637 for Hakkoz ^H6976, the eighth ^H8066 for Abijah ^H29, 11 the ninth ^H8671 for Jeshua ^H3091, the tenth ^H6224 for Shecaniah ^H7935, 12 the eleventh ^H6249 H6240 for Eliashib ^H475, the twelfth ^H8147 H6240 for Jakim ^H3356, 13 the thirteenth ^H7969 H6240 for Huppah ^H2647, the fourteenth ^H702 H6240 for Jeshebeab ^H3428, 14 the fifteenth ^H2568 H6240 for Bilgah ^H1083, the sixteenth ^H8337 H6240 for Immer ^H564, 15 the seventeenth ^H7651 H6240 for Hezir ^H2387, the eighteenth ^H8083 H6240 for Happizzez ^H6483, 16 the nineteenth ^H8672 H6240 for Pethahiah ^H6611, the twentieth ^H6242 for Jehezkel ^H3168, 17 the twenty-first ^H6242 H259 for Jachin ^H3199, the twenty-second ^H6242 H8147 for Gamul ^H1577, 18 the twenty-third ^H6242 H7969 for Delaiah ^H1806, and the twenty-fourth ^H6242 H702 for Maaziah ^H4590. 19 These ^H428 were their offices ^H6486 for their ministry ^H5656 when they entered ^H935 the house ^H1004 of the LORD ^H3068 according to the ordinance ^H4941 given to them through ^H3027 their father ^H1 Aaron ^H175, just ^H834 as ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478 had commanded ^H6680 him.

These ^H428 were the sons ^H1121 of the Levites ^H3881 according to their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004. 31 These ^H1992 also ^H1571 cast ^H5307 lots ^H1486 just ^H5980 as their relatives ^H251, the sons ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 did in the presence ^H6440 of David ^H1732 the king ^H4428, Zadok ^H6659, Ahimelech ^H288, and the heads ^H7218 of the fathers’ ^H1 households of the priests ^H3548 and of the Levites ^H3881—the head ^H7218 of fathers’ ^H1 households as well ^H5980 as those of his younger ^H6996 brother ^H251.
