Solomon Worships at Gibeon
1 Now Solomon H8010 the son H1121 of David H1732 established H2388 himself securely H2388 over H5921 his kingdom H4438, and the LORD H3068 his God H430 was with him and exalted H1431 him greatly H4605.
2 And Solomon H8010 spoke H559 to all H3605 Israel H3478, to the commanders H8269 of thousands H505, of hundreds H3967, and to the judges H8199 and to every H3605 leader H5387 in all H3605 Israel H3478, the heads H7218 of the fathers’ H1 households.
3 Then Solomon H8010 and all H3605 the assembly H6951 with him went H1980 to the high H1116 place H1116 which H834 was at Gibeon H1391, because H3588 God’s H430 tent H168 of meeting H4150 was there H8033 which H834 Moses H4872, the servant H5650 of the LORD H3068 had made H6213 in the wilderness H4057. 4 However H61, David H1732 had brought H5927 up H5927 the ark H727 of God H430 from Kiriath-jearim H7157 [fn]to the place he had prepared H3559 for it, for he had pitched H5186 a tent H168 for it in Jerusalem H3389. 5 Now the bronze H5178 altar H4196 which H834 Bezalel H1212, the son H1121 of Uri H221, the son H1121 of Hur H2354, had made H6213 was there H8033 before H6440 the tabernacle H4908 of the LORD H3068, and Solomon H8010 and the assembly H6951 sought H1875 it out. 6 And Solomon H8010 went H5927 up H5927 there H8033 before H6440 the LORD H3068 to the bronze H5178 altar H4196 which H834 was at the tent H168 of meeting H4150, and offered H5927 a thousand H505 burnt H5930 offerings H5930 on it.
7 In that night H3915 God H430 appeared H7200 to Solomon H8010 and said H559 to him, “Ask H7592 what H4100 I shall give H5414 you.”
Solomon’s Prayer for Wisdom
8 And Solomon H8010 said H559 to God H430, “You have dealt H6213 with my father H1 David H1732 with great H1419 faithfulness H2617, and have made H4427 me king H4427 in H8478 his place H8478. 9 Now H6258, LORD H3068 God H430, Your [fn]promise H1697 to my father H1 David H1732 is fulfilled H539, for You have made H4427 me king H4427 over H5921 a people H5971 as numerous H7227 as the dust H6083 of the earth H776. 10 Now H6258 give H5414 me wisdom H2451 and knowledge H4093, so that I may go H3318 out H3318 and come H935 in H935 before H6440 this H2088 people H5971, for who H4310 can rule H8199 this H2088 great H1419 people H5971 of Yours?” 11 Then God H430 said H559 to Solomon H8010, “Because H3282 H834 this H2088 was [fn]in your heart H3824, and you did not ask H7592 for riches H6239, wealth H5233, or honor H3519, or the life H5315 of those who hate H8130 you, nor H3808 did you even H1571 ask H7592 for long H7227 life H3117, but you asked H7592 for yourself wisdom H2451 and knowledge H4093 so H834 that H834 you may rule H8199 My people H5971 over H5921 whom H834 I have made H4427 you king H4427, 12 wisdom H2451 and knowledge H4093 have been granted H5414 to you. I will also give H5414 you riches H6239, wealth H5233, and honor H3519, [fn]such H834 H3651 as none H3808 of the kings H4428 who H834 were before H6440 you has possessed H1961, nor H3808 will those who will [fn]come after H310 you.” 13 So Solomon H8010 went H935 [fn]from the high H1116 place H1116 which H834 was at Gibeon H1391, from the tent H168 of meeting H4150, to Jerusalem H3389, and he reigned H4427 over H5921 Israel H3478.
Solomon’s Wealth
14 Solomon H8010 amassed H622 chariots H7393 and horsemen H6571. He had H1961 1,400 H505 H702 H3967 chariots H7393 and twelve H8147 H6240 thousand H505 horsemen H6571, and he stationed H5117 them in the chariot H7393 cities H5892 and with the king H4428 in Jerusalem H3389.
15 The king H4428 made H5414 silver H3701 and gold H2091 as plentiful H7230 in Jerusalem H3389 as stones H68, and he made H5414 cedars H730 as plentiful H7230 as sycamores H8256 in the [fn]lowland H8219. 16 Solomon’s H8010 horses H5483 were imported H4161 from Egypt H4714 and from Kue H4723; the king’s H4428 traders H5503 acquired H3947 them from Kue H4723 for a price H4242. 17 They [fn]imported H5927 H3318 chariots H4818 from Egypt H4714 for six H8337 hundred H3967 shekels of silver H3701 apiece, horses H5483 for 150 H2572 H3967 apiece, and [fn]by the same H3651 means H3651 H3027 they [fn]exported H3318 them to all H3605 the kings H4428 of the Hittites H2850 and the kings H4428 of Aram H758.
