Foundations for Living

1 And I, brothers ^G80 and sisters, could ^G1410 not speak ^G2980 to you as spiritual ^G4152 people ^G4152, but only as fleshly ^G4560, as to infants ^G3516 in Christ ^G5547.

2 I gave ^G4222 you milk ^G1051 to ^G4222 drink ^G4222, not solid ^G1033 food ^G1033; for you were not yet ^G3768 able ^G1410 to consume it. But even ^G3761 now ^G3568 you are not yet ^G2089 able ^G1410, 3 for you are still ^G2089 fleshly ^G4559. For since ^G3699 there is jealousy ^G2205 and strife ^G2054 among ^G1722 you, are you not fleshly ^G4559, and are you not walking ^G4043 like ^G2596 ordinary people ^G444? 4 For when ^G3752 one ^G5100 person ^G5100 says ^G3004, “I am ^G1510 [fn]with Paul ^G3972,” and another ^G2087, “I am [fn]with Apollos ^G625,” are you not ordinary people ^G444?

5 What ^G5101 then ^G3767 is Apollos ^G625? And what ^G5101 is Paul ^G3972? Servants ^G1249 through ^G1223 whom ^G3739 you believed ^G4100, even ^G2532 as the Lord ^G2962 gave ^G1325 opportunity to each ^G1538 one ^G1538. 6 I planted ^G5452, Apollos ^G625 watered ^G4222, but God ^G2316 was causing ^G837 the ^G837 growth ^G837. 7 So ^G5620 then ^G5620 neither ^G3777 the one who plants ^G5452 nor ^G3777 the one who waters ^G4222 is anything ^G5100, but God ^G2316 who causes ^G837 the ^G837 growth ^G837. 8 Now ^G1161 the one who plants ^G5452 and the one who waters ^G4222 are one ^G1520; but each ^G1538 will receive ^G2983 his own ^G2398 [fn]reward ^G3408 according ^G2596 to his own ^G2398 labor ^G2873. 9 For we are God’s ^G2316 fellow ^G4904 workers ^G4904; you are God’s ^G2316 [fn]field ^G1091, God’s ^G2316 building ^G3619.

10 According ^G2596 to the grace ^G5485 of God ^G2316 which was given ^G1325 to me, like ^G5613 a wise ^G4680 master ^G753 builder ^G753 I laid ^G5087 a foundation ^G2310, and another ^G243 is building ^G2026 on ^G2026 it. But each ^G1538 person ^G1538 must be careful ^G991 how ^G4459 he builds ^G2026 on ^G2026 it. 11 For no ^G3762 one ^G3762 can ^G1410 lay ^G5087 a foundation ^G2310 other ^G243 than ^G3844 the one which is laid ^G2749, which ^G3739 is Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547. 12 Now ^G1161 if ^G1487 anyone ^G5100 builds ^G2026 on the foundation ^G2310 with gold ^G5553, silver ^G694, precious ^G5093 stones ^G3037, wood ^G3586, hay ^G5528, or straw ^G2562, 13 each ^G1538 one’s ^G1538 work ^G2041 will become ^G1096 evident ^G5318; for the day ^G2250 will show ^G1213 it because ^G3754 it is to be revealed ^G601 with fire ^G4442, and the fire ^G4442 itself ^G846 will test ^G1381 [fn]the quality ^G3697 of each ^G1538 one’s ^G1538 work ^G2041. 14 If ^G1487 anyone’s ^G5100 work ^G2041 which ^G3739 he has built ^G2026 on ^G2026 it remains ^G3306, he will receive ^G2983 a reward ^G3408. 15 If ^G1487 anyone’s ^G5100 work ^G2041 is burned ^G2618 up ^G2618, he will suffer ^G2210 loss ^G2210; but he himself ^G846 will be saved ^G4982, yet ^G1161 only so ^G3779 as through ^G1223 fire ^G4442.

16 Do you not know ^G6063 that you are a [fn]temple ^G3485 of God ^G2316 and that the Spirit ^G4151 of God ^G2316 dwells ^G3611 in you? 17 If ^G1487 anyone ^G5100 destroys ^G5351 the [fn]temple ^G3485 of God ^G2316, God ^G2316 will destroy ^G5351 [fn]that ^G3778 person ^G3778; for the [fn]temple ^G3485 of God ^G2316 is holy ^G40, [fn]and that is what ^G3748 you are.

18 Take care that no ^G3367 one ^G3367 deceives ^G1818 himself ^G1438. If ^G1487 anyone ^G5100 among ^G1722 you thinks ^G1380 that he is wise ^G4680 in this ^G3778 age ^G165, he must become ^G1096 foolish ^G3474, so ^G2443 that ^G2443 he may become ^G1096 wise ^G4680. 19 For the wisdom ^G4678 of this ^G3778 world ^G2889 is foolishness ^G3472 in ^G3844 the ^G3844 sight ^G3844 of ^G3844 God ^G2316. For it is written ^G1125: “He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES ^G1405 THE WISE ^G4680 BY THEIR CRAFTINESS ^G3834”; 20 and again ^G3825, “THE LORD ^G2962 KNOWS ^G1097 THE THOUGHTS ^G1261 of the wise ^G4680, THAT THEY ARE useless ^G3152.” 21 So ^G5620 then ^G5620, no ^G3367 one ^G3367 is to be boasting ^G2744 in people ^G444. For all ^G3956 things ^G3956 belong ^G1510 to you, 22 whether ^G1535 Paul ^G3972 or ^G1535 Apollos ^G625 or ^G1535 [fn]Cephas ^G2786, or ^G1535 the world ^G2889 or ^G1535 life ^G2222 or ^G1535 death ^G2288, or ^G1535 things ^G1764 present ^G1764 or ^G1535 things ^G3195 to ^G3195 come ^G3195; all ^G3956 things ^G3956 belong to you, 23 and you belong to Christ ^G5547, and Christ ^G5547 belongs to God ^G2316.
