1 For you yourselves ^G846 know ^G6063, brothers ^G80 and sisters, that our [fn]reception ^G1529 among ^G4314 you was not in ^G2756 vain ^G2756,

2 but after we had already ^G4310 suffered ^G4310 and been treated ^G5195 abusively ^G5195 in Philippi ^G5375, as you know ^G6063, we had ^G3955 the ^G3955 boldness ^G3955 in our God ^G2316 to speak ^G2980 to you the gospel ^G2098 of God ^G2316 [fn]amid ^G1722 much ^G4183 [fn]opposition ^G73. 3 For our exhortation ^G3874 does not come from error ^G4106 or ^G3761 impurity ^G167 or ^G3761 [fn]by way ^G1722 of deceit ^G1388; 4 but just ^G2531 as ^G2531 we have been approved ^G1381 by God ^G2316 to be entrusted ^G4100 with the gospel ^G2098, so ^G3779 we speak ^G2980, not intending ^G5613 to please ^G700 people ^G444, but to please God ^G2316, who [fn]examines ^G1381 our hearts ^G2588. 5 For we never ^G3777 G4218 came ^G1096 [fn]with flattering ^G2850 speech ^G3056, as you know ^G6063, nor ^G3777 with a pretext ^G4392 [fn]for greed ^G4124—God ^G2316 is our witness ^G3144— 6 nor ^G3777 did we seek ^G2212 honor ^G1391 from people ^G444, either ^G3777 from you or ^G3777 from others ^G243, though [fn]we could have [fn]asserted ^G1510 G922 our authority ^G922 as apostles ^G652 of Christ ^G5547. 7 But we [fn]proved ^G1096 to be [fn]gentle ^G2261 [fn]among ^G1722 G3319 you. 13 For this ^G3778 reason ^G1223 we also ^G2532 constantly ^G89 thank ^G2168 God ^G2316 that when you received ^G3880 the word ^G3056 of God ^G2316 which ^G3739 you heard ^G191 from us, you accepted ^G1209 it not as the word ^G3056 of mere men ^G444, but as ^G2531 what ^G2531 it really ^G230 is, the word ^G3056 of God ^G2316, which ^G3739 also ^G2532 is ^G1754 at ^G1754 work ^G1754 in you who believe ^G4100. 14 For you, brothers ^G80 and sisters, became ^G1096 imitators ^G3402 of the churches ^G1577 of God ^G2316 in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424 that are in Judea ^G2449, for you also ^G2532 endured ^G3958 the same ^G846 sufferings ^G3958 at ^G5259 the hands ^G5259 of your own ^G2398 countrymen ^G4853, even ^G2531 as they did from the Jews ^G2453, 15 who both ^G2532 killed ^G615 the Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 and the prophets ^G4396, and [fn]drove ^G1559 us out ^G1559. [fn]They are not pleasing ^G700 to God ^G2316, [fn]but hostile ^G1727 to all ^G3956 people ^G444, 16 hindering ^G2967 us from speaking ^G2980 to the Gentiles ^G1484 so ^G2443 that ^G2443 they may be saved ^G4982; with the result ^G1519 that they always ^G3842 [fn]reach ^G378 the ^G378 limit ^G378 of their sins ^G266. But wrath ^G3709 has come ^G5348 upon them [fn]fully ^G5056.

17 But we, brothers ^G80 and sisters, having been orphaned ^G642 from you by absence for a [fn]short ^G2540 G5610 while ^G5610—in [fn]person ^G4383, not in [fn]spirit ^G2588—were all ^G4056 the ^G4056 more ^G4056 eager ^G4704 with great ^G4183 desire ^G1939 to see ^G3708 your face ^G4383. 18 [fn]For we wanted ^G2309 to come ^G2064 to you—I, Paul ^G3972, [fn]more ^G2532 G1364 than ^G2532 once ^G530—and Satan ^G4567 hindered ^G1465 us. 19 For who ^G5101 is our hope ^G1680, or ^G2228 joy ^G5479 or ^G2228 crown ^G4735 of pride ^G2746, in ^G1715 the ^G1715 presence ^G1715 of our Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 at His [fn]coming ^G3952? Or is it not indeed ^G2532 you? 20 For you are our glory ^G1391 and joy ^G5479.
