Idolatrous Elders Condemned

1 Then some ^H376 elders ^H2205 of Israel ^H3478 came ^H935 to me and sat ^H3427 down ^H3427 before ^H6440 me.

2 And the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559, 3 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, these ^H428 men ^H376 have set ^H5927 up ^H5927 their idols ^H1544 in their hearts ^H3820 and have put ^H5414 in front ^H5227 of their faces ^H6440 the stumbling ^H4383 block ^H4383 of their wrongdoing ^H5771. Should I let Myself be consulted ^H1875 by them at ^H1875 all ^H1875? 4 Therefore ^H3651 speak ^H1696 to them and tell ^H559 them, ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 [fn]GOD ^H3068 says ^H559: “Anyone ^H376 of the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 who ^H834 sets ^H5927 up ^H5927 his idols ^H1544 in his heart ^H3820, puts ^H7760 in front ^H5227 of his face ^H6440 the stumbling ^H4383 block ^H4383 of his wrongdoing ^H5771, and then comes ^H935 to the prophet ^H5030, I the LORD ^H3068 will let Myself answer ^H6030 him in [fn]the matter in view of the multitude ^H7230 of his idols ^H1544, 5 in ^H4616 order ^H4616 to ^H4616 take ^H8610 hold ^H8610 of [fn]the hearts ^H3820 of the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 who ^H834 have [fn]turned ^H2114 away ^H2114 from Me due to all ^H3605 their idols ^H1544.”’

6 “Therefore ^H3651 say ^H559 to the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 says ^H559: “Repent ^H7725 and turn ^H7725 away ^H7725 from your idols ^H1544, and turn ^H7725 your faces ^H6440 away ^H7725 from all ^H3605 your abominations ^H8441. 7 For anyone ^H376 of the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, or of the strangers ^H1616 who ^H834 reside ^H1481 in Israel ^H3478, who deserts ^H5144 Me, sets ^H5927 up ^H5927 his idols ^H1544 in his heart ^H3820, puts ^H7760 in front ^H5227 of his face ^H6440 the stumbling ^H4383 block ^H4383 of his wrongdoing ^H5771, and then comes ^H935 to the prophet ^H5030 to request ^H1875 something ^H1875 of Me for himself, I the LORD ^H3068 will let Myself answer ^H6030 him Myself. 8 I will set ^H5414 My face ^H6440 against that person ^H376 and make ^H7760 him a sign ^H226 and [fn]a proverb ^H4912, and I will eliminate ^H3772 him from among ^H8432 My people ^H5971. So you will know ^H3045 that I am the LORD ^H3068.

9 “But if ^H3588 the prophet ^H5030 is persuaded ^H6601 so that he speaks ^H1696 a word ^H1697, it is I, the LORD ^H3068, who have persuaded ^H6601 that prophet ^H5030; and I will stretch ^H5186 out ^H5186 My hand ^H3027 against ^H5921 him and eliminate ^H8045 him from among ^H8432 My people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478. 10 And they will bear ^H5375 the punishment for their wrongdoing ^H5771; as the wrongdoing ^H5771 of the inquirer ^H1875 is, so the wrongdoing ^H5771 of the prophet ^H5030 will be, 11 in ^H4616 order ^H4616 that ^H4616 the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 may no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 stray ^H8582 from Me and no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 defile ^H2930 themselves with all ^H3605 their offenses ^H6588. So they will be My people ^H5971, and I shall be their God ^H430,”’ declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.”

The City Will Not Be Spared

12 Then the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559,

13 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, if ^H3588 a country ^H776 sins ^H2398 against Me by being ^H4603 unfaithful ^H4603, and I stretch ^H5186 out ^H5186 My hand ^H3027 against ^H5921 it, [fn]destroy ^H7665 its supply ^H4294 of bread ^H3899, send ^H7971 famine ^H7458 against it, and eliminate ^H3772 from it both human ^H120 and animal ^H929 life, 14 even though these ^H428 three ^H7969 men ^H376, Noah ^H5146, Daniel ^H1840, and Job ^H347, were in its midst ^H8432, by their own righteousness ^H6666 they could only save ^H5337 themselves ^H5315,” declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068. 15 “If ^H3863 I were to cause vicious ^H7451 animals ^H2416 to pass ^H5674 through the land ^H776 and they [fn]depopulated ^H7921 it, and it became ^H1961 desolate ^H8077 so ^H4480 H1097 that ^H4480 H1097 no ^H1097 one ^H1097 would pass ^H5674 through ^H5674 it because ^H4480 H6440 of the animals ^H2416, 16 though these ^H428 three ^H7969 men ^H376 were in its midst ^H8432, as I live ^H2416,” declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068, “they could not save ^H5337 either ^H518 their sons ^H1121 or ^H518 their daughters ^H1323. They alone ^H905 would be saved ^H5337, but the country ^H776 would be desolate ^H8077. 17 Or ^H176 if I were to bring ^H935 a sword ^H2719 on that country ^H776 and say ^H559, ‘A sword ^H2719 is to pass ^H5674 through the country ^H776,’ and I eliminated ^H3772 human ^H120 and animal ^H929 life from it, 18 even though these ^H428 three ^H7969 men ^H376 were in its midst ^H8432, as I live ^H2416,” declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068, “they could not save ^H5337 either their sons ^H1121 or their daughters ^H1323, but they alone ^H905 would be saved ^H5337. 19 Or ^H176 if I were to send ^H7971 a plague ^H1698 against ^H413 that country ^H776 and pour ^H8210 out ^H8210 My wrath ^H2534 on it in blood ^H1818 to eliminate ^H3772 man ^H120 and animal ^H929 from it, 20 even though Noah ^H5146, Daniel ^H1840, and Job ^H347 were in its midst ^H8432, as I live ^H2416,” declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068, “they could not save ^H5337 either ^H518 their son ^H1121 or ^H518 their daughter ^H1323. They would save ^H5337 only themselves ^H5315 by their righteousness ^H6666.”

21 For this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 says ^H559: “How ^H637 much ^H637 more ^H637 H3588 when ^H3588 I send ^H7971 My four ^H702 [fn]severe ^H7451 judgments ^H8201 against ^H413 Jerusalem ^H3389: sword ^H2719, famine ^H7458, vicious ^H7451 animals ^H2416, and plague ^H1698 to eliminate ^H3772 human ^H120 and animal ^H929 life from it! 22 Yet, behold ^H2009, [fn]survivors ^H6413 will be left ^H3498 in it who will be brought ^H3318 out ^H3318, both sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323. Behold ^H2009, they are going to come ^H3318 out ^H3318 to you, and you will see ^H7200 their conduct ^H1870 and actions ^H5949; then you will be comforted ^H5162 for the disaster ^H7451 which ^H834 I have brought ^H935 against ^H5921 Jerusalem ^H3389 for everything ^H3605 which ^H834 I have brought ^H935 upon it. 23 Then they will comfort ^H5162 you when ^H3588 you see ^H7200 their conduct ^H1870 and actions ^H5949, for you will know ^H3045 that I have not done ^H6213 without ^H2600 reason ^H2600 whatever ^H3605 H834 I did ^H6213 [fn]to it,” declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.
