Ezekiel 32 – New American Standard Bible 2020 (NASB20)

Grief over Pharaoh and Egypt

1 In the twelfth ^H8147 H6240 year ^H8141, in the twelfth ^H8147 H6240 month ^H2320, on the first ^H259 of the month ^H2320, the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559,

2 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, take ^H5375 up ^H5375 a song ^H7015 of ^H7015 mourning ^H7015 over ^H5921 Pharaoh ^H6547 king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714, and say ^H559 to him,

‘You [fn]compared ^H1819 yourself to a young ^H3715 lion ^H3715 of the nations ^H1471,

Yet you are like the monster ^H8577 in the seas ^H3220;

And you burst ^H1518 forth ^H1518 in your rivers ^H5104

And muddied ^H1804 the waters ^H4325 with your feet ^H7272

And [fn]fouled ^H7511 their rivers ^H5104.’”

3 This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 [fn]GOD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Now I will spread ^H6566 My net ^H7568 over ^H5921 you

With a contingent ^H6951 of many ^H7227 peoples ^H5971,

And they will lift ^H5927 you up ^H5927 in My net ^H2764.

4 “I will leave ^H5203 you on the land ^H776;

I will hurl ^H2904 you on the [fn]open ^H6440 field ^H7704.

And I will cause all ^H3605 the birds ^H5775 of the sky ^H8064 to [fn]nest ^H7931 on you,

And I will satisfy ^H7646 the animals ^H2416 of the whole ^H3605 earth ^H776 [fn]with you.

5 “I will lay ^H5414 your flesh ^H1320 on the mountains ^H2022

And fill ^H4390 the valleys ^H1516 with your refuse ^H7419.

6 “I will also make ^H8248 the land ^H776 drink ^H8248 the discharge ^H6824 of your blood ^H1818

As ^H413 far ^H413 as ^H413 the mountains ^H2022,

And the ravines ^H650 will be full ^H4390 of you.

7 “And when I extinguish ^H3518 you,

I will cover ^H3680 the heavens ^H8064 and darken ^H6937 their stars ^H3556;

I will cover ^H3680 the sun ^H8121 with a cloud ^H6051

And the moon ^H3394 will not give ^H215 its light ^H216.

8 “All ^H3605 the shining ^H3974 lights ^H216 in the heavens ^H8064

I will darken ^H6937 over ^H5921 you

And will set ^H5414 darkness ^H2822 on your land ^H776,”

Declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.

9 “I will also trouble ^H3707 the hearts ^H3820 of many ^H7227 peoples ^H5971 when I bring ^H935 your destruction ^H7667 among the nations ^H1471, into lands ^H776 which ^H834 you have not known ^H3045. 10 And I will make ^H8074 many ^H7227 peoples ^H5971 appalled ^H8074 at you, and their kings ^H4428 will be horribly ^H8178 afraid ^H8175 of you when I brandish ^H5774 My sword ^H2719 before ^H5921 H6440 them; and they will tremble ^H2729 again ^H7281 and again ^H7281, every ^H376 person ^H376 for his own life ^H5315, on the day ^H3117 of your fall ^H4658.”

11 For the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 says ^H559 this ^H3541: “The sword ^H2719 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 will [fn]attack ^H935 you. 12 By the swords ^H2719 of the warriors ^H1368 I will make your multitude ^H1995 fall ^H5307; all ^H3605 of them are tyrants ^H6184 of the nations ^H1471,

And they will devastate ^H7703 the pride ^H1347 of Egypt ^H4714,

And all ^H3605 its multitude ^H1995 will be destroyed ^H8045.

13 “I will also eliminate ^H6 all ^H3605 its cattle ^H929 from beside ^H5921 many ^H7227 waters ^H4325;

And a human ^H120 foot ^H7272 will not muddy ^H1804 them anymore ^H5750,

And the hoofs ^H6541 of animals ^H929 will not muddy ^H1804 them.

14 “Then ^H227 I will make their waters ^H4325 settle ^H8257,

And make their rivers ^H5104 run ^H1980 like oil ^H8081,”

Declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.

15 “When I make ^H5414 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 a desolation ^H8077,

And the land ^H776 is destitute ^H8074 of that which ^H4393 filled ^H4393 it,

When I strike ^H5221 all ^H3605 those who live ^H3427 in it,

Then they shall know ^H3045 that I am the LORD ^H3068.

16 This ^H1931 is a song ^H7015 of ^H7015 mourning ^H7015, and they shall sing ^H6969 it. The daughters ^H1323 of the nations ^H1471 shall sing ^H6969 it. Over ^H5921 Egypt ^H4714 and over ^H5921 all ^H3605 her hordes ^H1995 they shall sing ^H6969 it,” declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.

17 In the twelfth ^H8147 H6240 year ^H8141, on the fifteenth ^H2568 H6240 of the month ^H2320, the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559, 18 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, lament ^H5091 for the hordes ^H1995 of Egypt ^H4714 and bring ^H3381 it down ^H3381, her and the daughters ^H1323 of the mighty ^H117 nations ^H1471, to the netherworld ^H8482 H776, with those who go ^H3381 down ^H3381 to the pit ^H953;

19 ‘Whom ^H4310 do you surpass ^H5276 H4480 in ^H5276 beauty ^H5276?

Go ^H3381 down ^H3381 and make ^H7901 your bed ^H7901 with the uncircumcised ^H6189.’

20 They shall fall ^H5307 in the midst ^H8432 of those who are killed ^H2491 by the sword ^H2719. [fn]She is turned ^H5414 over ^H5414 to the sword ^H2719; they have dragged ^H4900 her and all ^H3605 her hordes ^H1995 away ^H4900. 21 The strong ^H410 among the mighty ^H1368 ones ^H1368 shall speak ^H1696 of him and his helpers ^H1368 from the midst ^H8432 of Sheol ^H7585: ‘They have gone ^H3381 down ^H3381, they lie ^H7901 still ^H7901, the uncircumcised ^H6189, killed ^H2491 by the sword ^H2719.’

22 “Assyria ^H804 is there ^H8033 and all ^H3605 her company ^H6951; [fn]her graves ^H6913 are all ^H5439 around ^H5439 [fn]her. All ^H3605 of them killed ^H2491, fallen ^H5307 by the sword ^H2719, 23 whose ^H834 graves ^H6913 are set ^H5414 in the remotest ^H3411 parts ^H3411 of the pit ^H953, and her company ^H6951 is all ^H5439 around ^H5439 her grave ^H6900. All ^H3605 of them killed ^H2491, fallen ^H5307 by the sword ^H2719, who ^H834 [fn]spread ^H5414 terror ^H2851 in the land ^H776 of the living ^H2416.

24 “Elam ^H5867 is there ^H8033 and all ^H3605 her hordes ^H1995 around ^H5439 her grave ^H6900; all ^H3605 of them killed ^H2491, fallen ^H5307 by the sword ^H2719, who ^H834 went ^H3381 down ^H3381 uncircumcised ^H6189 to the lower ^H8482 parts ^H8482 of the earth ^H776, who ^H834 inflicted ^H5414 their terror ^H2851 on the land ^H776 of the living ^H2416, and bore ^H5375 their disgrace ^H3639 with those who go ^H3381 down ^H3381 to the pit ^H953. 25 They have made ^H5414 a bed ^H4904 for her among ^H8432 the slain ^H2491 with all ^H3605 her hordes ^H1995. Her graves ^H6913 are around ^H5439 it, they are all ^H3605 uncircumcised ^H6189, killed ^H2491 by the sword ^H2719 (although ^H3588 their terror ^H2851 was [fn]inflicted ^H5414 on the land ^H776 of the living ^H2416), and they bore ^H5375 their disgrace ^H3639 with those who go ^H3381 down ^H3381 to the pit ^H953; [fn]they were put ^H5414 in the midst ^H8432 of the slain ^H2491.

26 “Meshech ^H4902, Tubal ^H8422, and all ^H3605 their hordes ^H1995 are there ^H8033; their graves ^H6913 [fn]surround ^H5439 them. All ^H3605 of them were killed ^H2490 by the sword ^H2719 uncircumcised ^H6189, though ^H3588 they inflicted ^H5414 their terror ^H2851 on the land ^H776 of the living ^H2416. 27 Nor ^H3808 do they lie ^H7901 beside ^H854 the fallen ^H5307 [fn]heroes ^H1368 of the uncircumcised ^H6189, who ^H834 went ^H3381 down ^H3381 to Sheol ^H7585 with their weapons ^H3627 of war ^H4421 and whose swords ^H2719 were placed ^H5414 under ^H8478 their heads ^H7218; but the punishment ^H5771 for ^H5771 their wrongdoing ^H5771 rested ^H1961 on their bones ^H6106, though ^H3588 the terror ^H2851 of these [fn]heroes ^H1368 was once in the land ^H776 of the living ^H2416. 28 But in the midst ^H8432 of the uncircumcised ^H6189 you will be broken ^H7665 and lie ^H7901 with those killed ^H2491 by the sword ^H2719.

29 “There ^H8033 also is Edom ^H123, its kings ^H4428 and all ^H3605 its [fn]princes ^H5387, who ^H834 [fn]despite all their might ^H1369 are laid ^H5414 with those killed ^H2491 by the sword ^H2719; they will lie ^H7901 with the uncircumcised ^H6189 and with those who go ^H3381 down ^H3381 to the pit ^H953.

30 “There ^H8033 also are the [fn]chiefs ^H5257 of the north ^H6828, all ^H3605 of them, and all ^H3605 the Sidonians ^H6722, who ^H834 in spite of the terror ^H2851 resulting from their might ^H1369, in ^H954 shame ^H954 went ^H3381 down ^H3381 with the slain ^H2491. So they lay ^H7901 down ^H7901 uncircumcised ^H6189 with those killed ^H2491 by the sword ^H2719 and bore ^H5375 their disgrace ^H3639 with those who go ^H3381 down ^H3381 to the pit ^H953.

31 “These Pharaoh ^H6547 will see ^H7200, and he will find ^H5162 consolation ^H5162 regarding ^H5921 all ^H3605 his hordes ^H1995 killed ^H2491 by the sword ^H2719, Pharaoh ^H6547 and all ^H3605 his army ^H2428,” declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068. 32 “Though ^H3588 I inflicted ^H5414 the terror ^H2851 of him on the land ^H776 of the living ^H2416, yet he will be laid ^H7901 to ^H7901 rest ^H7901 among ^H8432 the uncircumcised ^H6189 along with those killed ^H2491 by the sword ^H2719, Pharaoh ^H6547 and all ^H3605 his hordes ^H1995,” declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.
