The Vision of Slaughter
Then He cried H7121 out H7121 in my [fn]presence H241 with a loud H1419 voice H6963, saying H559, “Come H7126 forward H7126, you [fn]executioners H6486 of the city H5892, each H376 with his weapon H3627 of destruction H4892 in his hand H3027.”
And behold H2009, six H8337 men H376 came H935 from the direction H1870 of the upper H5945 gate H8179 which H834 faces H6437 north H6828, each H376 with his smashing H4660 weapon H3627 in his hand H3027; and among H8432 them was one H259 man H376 clothed H3847 in linen H906 with a scribe’s H5608 kit H7083 at his waist H4975. And they came H935 in H935 and stood H5975 beside H681 the bronze H5178 altar H4196.
Then the glory H3519 of the God H430 of Israel H3478 ascended H5927 from the cherub H3742 on which H834 it had been H1961, to the threshold H4670 of the [fn]temple H1004. And He called H7121 to the man H376 clothed H3847 in linen H906 at whose H834 waist H4975 was the scribe’s H5608 kit H7083. 4 And the LORD H3068 said H559 to him, “Go H5674 through the midst H8432 of the city H5892, through the midst H8432 of Jerusalem H3389, and make H8427 a mark H8420 on the foreheads H4696 of the people H376 who groan H584 and sigh H602 over H5921 all H3605 the abominations H8441 which are being committed H6213 in its midst H8432.” 5 But to the others H428 He said H559 in my [fn]presence H241, “Go H5674 through the city H5892 after H310 him and strike H5221; do not let your eye H5869 have H2347 pity H2347 and do not spare H2550. 6 [fn]Utterly H4889 kill H2026 old H2205 men H2205, young H970 men H970, female virgins H1330, little H2945 children H2945, and women H802, but do not touch H5066 any H3605 person H376 on whom H834 is the mark H8420; and you shall start H2490 from My sanctuary H4720.” So they started H2490 with the [fn]elders H2205 who H834 were before H6440 the [fn]temple H1004. 7 He also said H559 to them, “Defile H2930 the [fn]temple H1004 and fill H4390 the courtyards H2691 with the dead H2491. Go H3318 out H3318!” So they went H3318 out H3318 and struck H5221 and H5221 killed H5221 the people in the city H5892. 8 And as they were striking H5221 the people and I alone was left H7604, I fell H5307 on my face H6440 and cried H2199 out H2199, [fn]saying H559, “Oh H162, Lord H136 [fn]GOD H3068! Are You going to destroy H7843 the entire H3605 remnant H7611 of Israel H3478 [fn]by pouring H8210 out H8210 Your wrath H2534 on Jerusalem H3389?”
Then He said H559 to me, “The guilt H5771 of the house H1004 of Israel H3478 and Judah H3063 is very H3966, very H3966 great H1419, and the land H776 is filled H4390 with blood H1818, and the city H5892 is full H4390 of perversion H4297; for they say H559, ‘The LORD H3068 has abandoned H5800 the land H776, and the LORD H3068 does not see H7200!’ 10 But as for Me, My eye H5869 will have H2347 no H3808 pity H2347 nor H3808 will I spare H2550, but I will bring H5414 their conduct H1870 upon their heads H7218.”
Then behold H2009, the man H376 clothed H3847 in linen H906, at whose H834 waist H4975 was the scribe’s kit H7083, [fn]reported H7725 H1697, saying H559, “I have done H6213 just H834 as H834 You have commanded H6680 me.”
