Birth of Isaac Promised

1 Now the LORD ^H3068 appeared ^H7200 to [fn]Abraham by the [fn]oaks ^H436 of Mamre ^H4471, while he was sitting ^H3427 at the tent ^H168 door ^H6607 in the heat ^H2527 of the day ^H3117.

2 When he raised ^H5375 his eyes ^H5869 and looked ^H7200, behold ^H2009, three ^H7969 men ^H376 were standing ^H5324 opposite ^H5921 him; and when he saw ^H7200 them, he ran ^H7323 from the tent ^H168 door ^H6607 to meet ^H7122 them and bowed ^H2331 down ^H2331 to the ground ^H776, 3 and said ^H559, “[fn]My Lord ^H113, if ^H518 now ^H4994 I have found ^H4672 favor ^H2580 in Your sight ^H5869, please ^H4994 do not [fn]pass ^H5674 Your servant ^H5650 by. 4 Please ^H4994 let a little ^H4592 water ^H4325 be brought ^H3947 and wash ^H7364 [fn]your feet ^H7272, and make ^H8172 yourselves ^H8172 comfortable ^H8172 under ^H8478 the tree ^H6086; 5 and I will [fn]bring ^H3947 a piece ^H6595 of bread ^H3899, so that you may [fn]refresh ^H5582 yourselves ^H3820; after ^H310 that you may go ^H5674 on ^H5674, since ^{H3588 H5921 H3651} you have [fn]visited ^H5674 your servant ^H5650.” And they said ^H559, “So ^H3651 do ^H6213 as you have said ^H1696.” 6 So Abraham ^H85 hurried ^H4116 into the tent ^H168 to Sarah ^H8283, and said ^H559, “[fn]Quickly ^H4116, prepare ^H4116 three ^H7969 [fn]measures ^H5429 of fine ^H5560 flour ^H7058 H5560, knead ^H3888 it, and make ^H6213 bread ^H5692 cakes ^H5692.” 7 Abraham ^H85 also ran ^H7323 to the herd ^H1241, and took ^H3947 a tender ^H7390 and [fn]choice ^H2896 calf ^H1121 H1241 and gave ^H5414 it to the servant ^H5288, and he hurried ^H4116 to prepare ^H6213 it. 8 He took ^H3947 curds ^H2529 and milk ^H2461 and the calf ^H1121 H1241 which ^H834 he had prepared ^H6213, and set ^H5414 it before ^H6440 them; and he was standing ^H5975 by them under ^H8478 the tree ^H6086 [fn]as they ate ^H398.

9 Then they said ^H559 to him, “Where ^H335 is your wife ^H802 Sarah ^H8283?” And he said ^H559, “There ^H2009, in the tent ^H168.” 10 He said ^H559, “I will certainly ^H7725 return ^H7725 to you [fn]at this time ^H6256 next ^H2416 year ^H2416; and behold ^H2009, your wife ^H802 Sarah ^H8283 will have a son ^H1121.” And Sarah ^H8283 was listening ^H8085 at the tent ^H168 door ^H6607, which ^H1931 was behind ^H310 him. 11 Now Abraham ^H85 and Sarah ^H8283 were old ^H2205, advanced ^H935 in age ^H3117; Sarah ^H8283 was past ^H2308 [fn]childbearing ^H734 H802. 12 So Sarah ^H8283 laughed ^H6711 [fn]to herself ^H7130, saying ^H559, “After ^H310 I have become ^H1086 old ^H1086, am I to have ^H1961 pleasure ^H5730, my lord ^H113 being ^H2204 old ^H2204 also?” 13 But the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to Abraham ^H85, “Why ^H4100 did Sarah ^H8283 laugh ^H6711, saying ^H559, ‘Shall I actually ^H637 H552 give ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to a child, when I am ^H2204 so old ^H2204?’ 14 Is ^H6381 anything ^H1697 too ^H4480 [fn]difficult ^H6381 for the LORD ^H3068? At the appointed ^H4150 time ^H4150 I will return ^H7725 to you, [fn]at this ^H2416 time ^H6256 next ^H2416 year ^H2416, and Sarah ^H8283 will have a son ^H1121.” 15 Sarah ^H8283 denied ^H3584 it, however, saying ^H559, “I did not laugh ^H6711”; for she was ^H3372 afraid ^H3372. And He said ^H559, “No ^H3808, but you did laugh ^H6711.”

16 Then the men ^H376 rose ^H6965 up ^H6965 from there ^H8033, and looked ^H8259 down ^H8259 toward ^H5921 H6440 Sodom ^H5467; and Abraham ^H85 was walking ^H1980 with them to send ^H7971 them off. 17 The LORD ^H3068 said ^H559, “Shall I hide ^H3680 from Abraham ^H85 what ^H834 I am about to do ^H6213, 18 since Abraham ^H85 will certainly ^H1961 become ^H1961 a great ^H1419 and [fn]mighty ^H6099 nation ^H1471, and in him all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471 of the earth ^H776 will be blessed ^H1288? 19 For I have [fn]chosen ^H3045 him, so ^H4616 that ^H4616 he may command ^H6680 his children ^H1121 and his household ^H1004 after ^H310 him to keep ^H8104 the way ^H1870 of the LORD ^H3068 by doing ^H6213 righteousness ^H6666 and justice ^H4941, so ^H4616 that ^H4616 the LORD ^H3068 may bring ^H935 upon Abraham ^H85 what ^H834 He has spoken ^H1696 about ^H5921 him.” 20 And the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559, “The outcry ^H2201 of Sodom ^H5467 and Gomorrah ^H6017 is ^H7231 indeed ^H3588 great ^H7231, and their sin ^H2403 is ^H3513 exceedingly ^H3966 grave ^H3513. 21 I will go ^H3381 down ^H3381 now ^H4994 and see ^H7200 whether they have done ^H6213 entirely ^H3605 as the outcry ^H6818, which has come ^H935 to Me indicates; and if ^H518 not, I will know ^H3045.”

Abraham Appeals for Sodom

22 Then the men ^H376 turned ^H6437 away ^H6437 from there ^H8033 and went ^H1980 toward Sodom ^H5467, while Abraham ^H85 was still ^H5750 standing ^H5975 before ^H6440 the LORD ^H3068.

23 Abraham ^H85 approached ^H5066 and said ^H559, “Will You indeed ^H637 sweep ^H5595 away ^H5595 the righteous ^H6662 with the wicked ^H7563? 24 Suppose ^H194 there ^H3426 are ^H3426 fifty ^H2572 righteous ^H6662 people ^H6662 within ^H8432 the city ^H5892; will You indeed ^H637 sweep ^H5595 it away ^H5595 and not [fn]spare ^H5375 the place ^H4725 for the sake ^H4616 of the fifty ^H2572 righteous ^H6662 who ^H834 are in it? 25 Far ^H2486 be it from You to do ^H6213 [fn]such ^H2088 a thing ^H1697, to kill ^H4191 the righteous ^H6662 with the wicked ^H7563, so that the righteous ^H6662 and the wicked ^H7563 are treated alike. Far ^H2486 be it from You! Shall not the Judge ^H8199 of all ^H3605 the earth ^H776 [fn]deal ^H6213 justly ^H4941?” 26 So the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559, “If ^H518 I find ^H4672 in Sodom ^H5467 fifty ^H2572 righteous ^H6662 within ^H8432 the city ^H5892, then I will [fn]spare ^H5375 the entire ^H3605 place ^H4725 on their account ^H5668.” 27 And Abraham ^H85 replied ^H6030, “Now ^H4994 behold ^H2009, I have [fn]ventured ^H2974 to speak ^H1696 to the Lord ^H136, although I am only dust ^H6083 and ashes ^H665. 28 Suppose ^H194 the fifty ^H2572 righteous ^H6662 are lacking ^H2637 five ^H2568, will You destroy ^H7843 the entire ^H3605 city ^H5892 because of five ^H2568?” And He said ^H559, “I will not destroy ^H7843 it if ^H518 I find ^H4672 forty-five ^H705 H2568 there ^H8033.” 29 And he spoke ^H1696 to Him yet ^H5750 again ^H3254 and said ^H559, “Suppose ^H194 forty ^H705 are found ^H4672 there ^H8033?” And He said ^H559, “I will not do ^H6213 it on account ^H5668 of the forty ^H705.” 30 Then he said ^H559, “Oh ^H4994 may ^H4994 the Lord ^H136 not be ^H2734 angry ^H2734, and I shall speak ^H1696; suppose ^H194 thirty ^H7970 are found ^H4672 there ^H8033?” And He said ^H559, “I will not do ^H6213 it if ^H518 I find ^H4672 thirty ^H7970 there ^H8033.” 31 And he said ^H559, “Now ^H4994 behold ^H2009, I have [fn]ventured ^H2974 to speak ^H1696 to the Lord ^H136; suppose ^H194 twenty ^H6242 are found ^H4672 there ^H8033?” And He said ^H559, “I will not destroy ^H7843 it on account ^H5668 of the twenty ^H6242.” 32 Then he said ^H559, “Oh ^H4994 may ^H4994 the Lord ^H136 not be ^H2734 angry ^H2734, and I shall speak ^H1696 only ^H389 this ^H6471 once ^H6471: suppose ^H194 ten ^H6235 are found ^H4672 there ^H8033?” And He said ^H559, “I will not destroy ^H7843 it on account ^H5668 of the ten ^H6235.” 33 As ^H834 soon ^H834 as ^H834 He had finished ^H3615 speaking ^H1696 to Abraham ^H85 the LORD ^H3068 departed ^H1980, and Abraham ^H85 returned ^H7725 to his place ^H4725.
