Joseph Interprets Dreams
1 Then it came H1961 about H1961 after H310 these H428 things H1697, that the cupbearer H4945 and the baker H644 for the king H4428 of Egypt H4714 offended H2398 their lord H113, the king H4428 of Egypt H4714.
2 And Pharaoh H6547 was H7107 furious H7107 with his two H8147 officials H5631, the chief H8269 cupbearer H4945 and the chief H8269 baker H644. 3 So he put H5414 them in confinement H4929 in the house H1004 of the captain H8269 of the bodyguard H2876, in the prison H1004 H5470, the same place H4725 where H834 H8033 Joseph H3130 was imprisoned H631. 4 And the captain H8269 of the bodyguard H2876 put H6485 Joseph H3130 in H6485 charge H6485 of them, and he [fn]took H8334 care H8334 of H8334 them; and they were in confinement H4929 for [fn]some H3117 time H3117. 5 Then the cupbearer H4945 and the baker H644 for the king H4428 of Egypt H4714, who H834 were confined H631 in the prison H1004 H5470, both H8147 had H2492 a dream H2472 the same H259 night H3915, each H376 man H376 with his own dream H2472 and each H376 dream H2472 with its own interpretation H6623. 6 [fn]When Joseph H3130 came H935 to them in the morning H1242 and saw H7200 them, [fn]behold H2009, they were dejected H2196. 7 So he asked H7592 Pharaoh’s H6547 officials H5631 who H834 were with him in confinement H4929 in his master’s H113 house H1004, “[fn]Why H4069 are your faces H6440 so sad H7451 today H3117?” 8 And they said H559 to him, “We have [fn]had H2492 a dream H2472, and there H369 is H369 no H369 one H369 to interpret H6622 it.” Then Joseph H3130 said H559 to them, “Do interpretations H6623 not belong to God H430? Tell H5608 it to me, please H4994.”
9 So the chief H8269 cupbearer H4945 told H5608 his dream H2472 to Joseph H3130, [fn]saying H559 to him, “In my dream H2472, [fn]behold H2009, there was a vine H1612 in front H6440 of me; 10 and on the vine H1612 were three H7969 branches H8299. And as it was budding H6524, its blossoms H5322 came H5927 out, and its clusters H811 produced H1310 ripe H1310 grapes H6025. 11 Now Pharaoh’s H6547 cup H3563 was in my hand H3027; so I took H3947 the grapes H6025 and squeezed H7818 them into Pharaoh’s H6547 cup H3563, and I put H5414 the cup H3563 into Pharaoh’s H6547 [fn]hand H3709.” 12 Then Joseph H3130 said H559 to him, “This H2088 is the interpretation H6623 of it: the three H7969 branches H8299 are three H7969 days H3117; 13 within three H7969 more H5750 days H3117 Pharaoh H6547 will [fn]lift H5375 up H5375 your head H7218 and restore H7725 you to your office H3653; and you will put H5414 Pharaoh’s H6547 cup H3563 into his hand H3027 as in your former H7223 practice H4941 when H834 you were his cupbearer H4945. 14 Only H3588 H518 [fn]keep H2142 me in mind when H834 it goes H3190 well H3190 for you, and please H4994 do H6213 me a kindness H2617 [fn]by mentioning H2142 me to Pharaoh H6547, and get H3318 me out H3318 of this H2088 [fn]prison H1004. 15 For I was in H1589 fact H1589 kidnapped H1589 from the land H776 of the Hebrews H5680, and even H1571 here H6311 I have done H6213 nothing H3808 H3972 that they should have put H7760 me into the [fn]dungeon H953.”
16 When the chief H8269 baker H644 saw H7200 that he had interpreted H6622 favorably H2896, he said H559 to Joseph H3130, “I also H637 saw in my dream H2472, and behold H2009, there were three H7969 baskets H5536 of white H2751 bread H2751 on my head H7218; 17 and in the top H5945 basket H5536 there were some H4480 of all H3605 [fn]kinds of baked H644 food H3978 for Pharaoh H6547, and the birds H5775 were eating H398 them out of the basket H5536 on my head H7218.” 18 Then Joseph H3130 answered H6030 and said H559, “This H2088 is its interpretation H6623: the three H7969 baskets H5536 are three H7969 days H3117; 19 within three H7969 more H5750 days H3117 Pharaoh H6547 will lift H5375 up H5375 your head H7218 from you and will hang H8518 you on a wooden H6086 post, and the birds H5775 will eat H398 your flesh H1320 off H4480 H5921 you.”
20 So it came H1961 about H1961 on the third H7992 day H3117, which was Pharaoh’s H6547 birthday H3205 H3117, that he held H6213 a feast H4960 for all H3605 his servants H5650; and he lifted H5375 up H5375 the head H7218 of the chief H8269 cupbearer H4945 and the head H7218 of the chief H8269 baker H644 among H8432 his servants H5650. 21 He restored H7725 the chief H8269 cupbearer H4945 to his [fn]office H4945, and he put H5414 the cup H3563 into Pharaoh’s H6547 [fn]hand H3709; 22 but he hanged H8518 the chief H8269 baker H644, just H834 as H834 Joseph H3130 had interpreted H6622 to them. 23 Yet the chief H8269 cupbearer H4945 did not remember H2142 Joseph H3130, but forgot H7911 him.
