Philistines Oppress Again

1 Now the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 again ^H3254 did ^H6213 evil ^H7451 in the sight ^H5869 of the LORD ^H3068, and the LORD ^H3068 handed ^H5414 H3027 them over ^H5414 to the Philistines ^H6430 for forty ^H705 years ^H8141.

2 And there was a man ^H376 of Zorah ^H6881, of the family ^H4940 of the Danites ^H1839, whose name ^H8034 was Manoah ^H4495; and his wife ^H802 was infertile ^H6135 and had not given ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to any children.

3 Then the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068 appeared ^H7200 to the woman ^H802 and said ^H559 to her, “Behold ^H2009 now ^H4994, you are infertile ^H6135 and have not given birth ^H3205; but you will conceive ^H2029 and give ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to a son ^H1121. 4 And now ^H6258, be ^H8104 careful ^H8104 not to drink ^H8354 wine ^H3196 or strong ^H7941 drink ^H7941, nor ^H408 eat ^H398 any ^H3605 [fn]unclean ^H2931 thing ^H2931. 5 For behold ^H2009, you will conceive ^H2030 and give ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to a son ^H1121, and no ^H3808 razor ^H4177 shall come ^H5927 upon his head ^H7218, for the boy ^H5288 shall be a Nazirite ^H5139 to God ^H430 from the womb ^H990; and he will begin ^H2490 to save ^H3467 Israel ^H3478 from the hands ^H3027 of the Philistines ^H6430.” 6 Then the woman ^H802 came ^H935 and told ^H559 her husband ^H376, saying ^H559, “A man ^H376 of God ^H430 came ^H935 to me, and his appearance ^H4758 was like the appearance ^H4758 of the angel ^H4397 of God ^H430, very ^H3966 awesome ^H3372. So I did not ask ^H7592 him where ^H335 he came from, nor ^H3808 did he tell ^H5046 me his name ^H8034. 7 But he said ^H559 to me, ‘Behold ^H2009, you shall conceive ^H2030 and give ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to a son ^H1121, and now ^H6258 you shall not drink ^H8354 wine ^H3196 or strong ^H7941 drink ^H7941, nor ^H408 eat ^H398 any ^H3605 [fn]unclean ^H2932 thing ^H2932, for the boy ^H5288 shall be a Nazirite ^H5139 to God ^H430 from the womb ^H990 to the day ^H3117 of his death ^H4194.’”

8 Then Manoah ^H4495 pleaded ^H6279 with the LORD ^H3068 and said ^H559, “Lord ^H136, please ^H4994 let the man ^H376 of God ^H430 whom ^H834 You have sent ^H7971 come ^H935 to us again ^H5750 so that he may teach ^H3384 us what ^H4100 we are to do ^H6213 for the boy ^H5288 who is to be born ^H3205.” 9 And God ^H430 listened ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of Manoah ^H4495; and the angel ^H4397 of God ^H430 came ^H935 again ^H5750 to the woman ^H802 as she was sitting ^H3427 in the field ^H7704, but Manoah ^H4495 her husband ^H376 was not with her. 10 So the woman ^H802 hurried ^H4116 and ran ^H7323, and told ^H5046 her [fn]husband ^H376, “Behold ^H2009, the man ^H376 who ^H834 [fn]came ^H935 the other day ^H3117 has appeared ^H7200 to me!” 11 So Manoah ^H4495 got ^H6965 up ^H6965 and followed ^H1980 H310 his wife ^H802, and when he came ^H935 to the man ^H376 he said ^H559 to him, “Are you the man ^H376 who ^H834 spoke ^H1696 to the woman ^H802?” And he said ^H559, “I am.” 12 Then Manoah ^H4495 said ^H559, “Now ^H6258 when your words ^H1697 [fn]are fulfilled ^H935, what ^H4100 shall be the boy’s ^H5288 way ^H4941 of ^H4941 life ^H4941 and his vocation ^H4639?” 13 And the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to Manoah ^H4495, “The woman ^H802 shall pay ^H8104 attention ^H8104 [fn]to all ^H3605 that I said ^H559. 14 She shall not eat ^H398 anything ^H3605 that comes ^H3318 from the vine ^H1612 H3196 nor ^H408 drink ^H8354 wine ^H3196 or strong ^H7941 drink ^H7941, nor ^H408 eat ^H398 any ^H3605 unclean ^H2932 thing ^H2932; she shall keep ^H8104 all ^H3605 that I commanded ^H6680.”

15 Then Manoah ^H4495 said ^H559 to the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068, “Please ^H4994 let us detain ^H6113 you so that we may prepare ^H6213 a young ^H1423 H5795 goat ^H1423 H5795 for you.” 16 But the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to Manoah ^H4495, “Though ^H518 you detain ^H6113 me, I will not eat ^H398 your [fn]food ^H3899, but if ^H518 you prepare ^H6213 a burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930, offer ^H5927 it to the LORD ^H3068.” For Manoah ^H4495 did not know ^H3045 that he was the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068. 17 And Manoah ^H4495 said ^H559 to the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068, “What ^H4310 is your name ^H8034, so that when your words ^H1697 [fn]are fulfilled ^H935, we may honor ^H3513 you?” 18 But the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to him, “Why ^H4100 do you ask ^H7592 my name ^H8034, for it is [fn]wonderful ^H6383?” 19 So Manoah ^H4495 took ^H3947 the young ^H1423 H5795 goat ^H1423 H5795 along with the grain offering ^H4503 and offered ^H5927 it on the rock ^H6697 to the LORD ^H3068; and He performed ^H6213 wonders ^H6381 while Manoah ^H4495 and his wife ^H802 looked ^H7200 on. 20 For it came ^H1961 about ^H1961 when the flame ^H3851 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 from the altar ^H4196 toward heaven ^H8064, that the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068 ascended ^H5927 in the flame ^H3851 of the altar ^H4196. When Manoah ^H4495 and his wife ^H802 saw ^H7200 this, they fell ^H5307 on their faces ^H6440 to the ground ^H776.

21 Now the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068 did not appear ^H7200 to Manoah ^H4495 or his wife ^H802 again ^H3254 H5750. Then ^H227 Manoah ^H4495 knew ^H3045 that he was the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068. 22 So Manoah ^H4495 said ^H559 to his wife ^H802, “We will certainly ^H4191 die ^H4191, for we have seen ^H7200 God ^H430.” 23 But his wife ^H802 said ^H559 to him, “If ^H3863 the LORD ^H3068 had desired ^H2654 to kill ^H4191 us, He would not have accepted ^H3947 a burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 and a grain offering ^H4503 from our hands ^H3027, nor ^H3808 would He have shown ^H7200 us all ^H3605 these ^H428 things ^H428, nor ^H3808 would He have let us hear ^H8085 things like this ^H2088 at this time ^H6256.”

24 So the woman ^H802 gave ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to a son ^H1121, and named ^H7121 H8034 him Samson ^H8123; and the child ^H5288 grew ^H1431 up ^H1431 and the LORD ^H3068 blessed ^H1288 him. 25 And the Spirit ^H7307 of the LORD ^H3068 began ^H2490 to stir ^H6470 him when he was in [fn]Mahaneh-dan ^H4265, between ^H996 Zorah ^H6881 and Eshtaol ^H847.
