The Fall of Jerusalem
1 Zedekiah H6667 was twenty-one H6242 H259 years H8141 old H1121 when he became H4427 king H4427, and he reigned H4427 for eleven H259 H6240 years H8141 in Jerusalem H3389; and his mother’s H517 name H8034 was [fn]Hamutal H2537 the daughter H1323 of Jeremiah H3414 of Libnah H3841.
2 He did H6213 evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the LORD H3068, in accordance with everything H3605 that Jehoiakim H3079 had done H6213. 3 For because H5921 of the anger H639 of the LORD H3068 this came H1961 about H1961 in Jerusalem H3389 and Judah H3063, until H5704 He drove H7993 them out H7993 from His presence H6440. And Zedekiah H6667 revolted H4775 against the king H4428 of Babylon H894. 4 Now it came H1961 about H1961 in the ninth H8671 year H8141 of his reign H4427, on the tenth H6218 day of the tenth H6224 month H2320, that Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 came H935, he and all H3605 his army H2428, against H5921 Jerusalem H3389, camped H2583 against H5921 it, and built H1129 a [fn]bulwark H1785 all H5439 around H5439 [fn]it. 5 So the city H5892 was under siege H4692 until H5704 the eleventh H6249 H6240 year H8141 of King H4428 Zedekiah H6667. 6 On the ninth H8672 day of the fourth H7243 month H2320 the famine H7458 was so severe H2388 in the city H5892 that there was no H3808 food H3899 for the people H5971 of the land H776. 7 Then the city H5892 was breached H1234, and all H3605 the warriors H376 H4421 fled H1272 and left H3318 the city H5892 at night H3915 by way H1870 of the gate H8179 between H996 the two walls H2346 which H834 was by the king’s H4428 garden H1588, though the Chaldeans H3778 were [fn]all H5439 around H5439 the city H5892. And they went H1980 by way H1870 of the Arabah H6160. 8 But the army H2428 of the Chaldeans H3778 pursued H7291 the king H4428 and overtook H5381 Zedekiah H6667 in the [fn]desert H6160 plains H6160 of Jericho H3405, and all H3605 his army H2428 was scattered H6327 from him. 9 Then they captured H8610 the king H4428 and brought H5927 him up H5927 to the king H4428 of Babylon H894 at Riblah H7247 in the land H776 of Hamath H2574, and he [fn]passed H1696 sentence H1696 on him. 10 And the king H4428 of Babylon H894 slaughtered H7819 the sons H1121 of Zedekiah H6667 before his eyes H5869, and he also H1571 slaughtered H7819 all H3605 the commanders H8269 of Judah H3063 in Riblah H7247. 11 Then he blinded H5786 the eyes H5869 of Zedekiah H6667; and the king H4428 of Babylon H894 bound H631 him with bronze H5178 shackles H5178 and brought H935 him to Babylon H894 and put H5414 him in prison H1004 H6486 until H5704 the day H3117 of his death H4194.
12 Now on the tenth H6218 day of the fifth H2549 month H2320, which H1931 was the nineteenth H8672 H6240 year H8141 of King H4428 Nebuchadnezzar H5019, king H4428 of Babylon H894, Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 of the bodyguard H2876, who [fn]was H5975 H6440 in H5975 H6440 the H5975 H6440 service H5975 H6440 of H5975 H6440 the king H4428 of Babylon H894, came H935 to Jerusalem H3389. 13 And he burned H8313 the house H1004 of the LORD H3068, the king’s H4428 house H1004, and all H3605 the houses H1004 of Jerusalem H3389; even every H3605 large H1419 house H1004 he burned H8313 with fire H784. 14 So the entire H3605 army H2428 of the Chaldeans H3778 who H834 were with the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 tore H5422 down H5422 all H3605 the walls H2346 around H5439 Jerusalem H3389. 15 Then Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 took H1540 into H1540 exile H1540 some H4480 of the poorest H1803 of the people H5971, the rest H3499 of the people H5971 who were left H7604 in the city H5892, the deserters H5307 who H834 had deserted H5307 to the king H4428 of Babylon H894, and the rest H3499 of the craftsmen H525. 16 But Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 left H7604 some H4480 of the poorest H1803 of the land H776 to be vinedressers H3755 and farmers H3009.
17 Now the bronze H5178 pillars H5982 which H834 belonged to the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 and the stands H4350 and the bronze H5178 [fn]sea H3220, which H834 were in the house H1004 of the LORD H3068, the Chaldeans H3778 smashed H7665 to H7665 pieces H7665 and carried H5375 all H3605 their bronze H5178 to Babylon H894. 18 They also took H3947 the pots H5518, the shovels H3257, the snuffers H4212, the basins H4219, the [fn]pans H3709, and all H3605 the bronze H5178 vessels H3627 which H834 were used H8334 in temple H8334 service H8334. 19 The captain H7227 of the guard H2876 also took H3947 the bowls H5592, the firepans H4289, the basins H4219, the pots H5518, the lampstands H4501, the [fn]pans H3709, and the drink H4518 offering H4518 bowls H4518, whatever H834 was fine H2091 gold H2091, and whatever H834 was fine H3701 silver H3701. 20 The two H8147 pillars H5982, the one H259 [fn]sea H3220, and the twelve H8147 H6240 bronze H5178 bulls H1241 that were under H8478 [fn]the sea H3220, and the stands H4350, which H834 King H4428 Solomon H8010 had made H6213 for the house H1004 of the LORD H3068—the bronze H5178 of all H3605 these H428 vessels H3627 was beyond H3808 weight H4948. 21 As for the pillars H5982, the height H6967 of each H259 pillar H5982 was [fn]eighteen H8083 H6240 cubits H520, and [fn]it was twelve H8147 H6240 cubits H520 in circumference H5437 H2339 and four H702 fingers H676 in thickness H5672, and hollow H5014. 22 Also, a capital H3805 of bronze H5178 was on top H5921 of it; and the height H6967 of each H259 capital H3805 was [fn]five H2568 cubits H520, with latticework H7639 and pomegranates H7416 on the capital H3805 all H5439 around H5439, all H3605 of bronze H5178. And the second H8145 pillar H5982 was like these H428, including pomegranates H7416. 23 There were ninety-six H8673 H8337 [fn]exposed H7307 pomegranates H7416; all H3605 the pomegranates H7416 numbered a hundred H3967 on the latticework H7639 all H5439 around H5439.
24 Then the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 took H3947 Seraiah H8304 the chief H7218 priest H3548 and Zephaniah H6846 the second H4932 priest H3548, with the three H7969 [fn]officers H8104 of the temple H5592. 25 He also took H3947 from the city H5892 one H259 official H5631 who H834 was overseer H6496 of the warriors H376 H4421, seven H7651 [fn]of the king’s H4428 advisers H582 H7200 who H834 were found H4672 in the city H5892, the scribe H5608 of the commander H8269 of the army H6635 who mustered H6633 the people H5971 of the land H776, and sixty H8346 men H376 from the people H5971 of the land H776 who were found H4672 inside H8432 the city H5892. 26 Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 of the bodyguards H2876 took H3947 them and brought H1980 them to the king H4428 of Babylon H894 at Riblah H7247. 27 Then the king H4428 of Babylon H894 struck H5221 them and put H4191 them to H4191 death H4191 in Riblah H7247 in the land H776 of Hamath H2574. So Judah H3063 was led H1540 into H1540 exile H1540 from its land H127.
28 These H2088 are the people H5971 whom H834 Nebuchadnezzar H5019 took H1540 into H1540 exile H1540: in the [fn]seventh H7651 year H8141 3,023 H7969 H505 H6242 Jews H3064; 29 in the eighteenth H8083 H6240 year H8141 of Nebuchadnezzar H5019 832 H8083 H3967 H7970 H8147 persons H5315 from Jerusalem H3389; 30 in the twenty-third H6242 H7969 year H8141 of Nebuchadnezzar H5019, Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 took H1540 into H1540 exile H1540 745 H7651 H3967 H705 H2568 Jewish H3064 people H5315; there were 4,600 H702 H505 H8337 H3967 people H5315 in all H3605.
31 Now it came H1961 about H1961 in the thirty-seventh H7970 H7651 year H8141 of the exile H1546 of Jehoiachin H3078 king H4428 of Judah H3063, in the twelfth H8147 H6240 month H2320, on the twenty-fifth H6242 H2568 of the month H2320, that [fn]Evil-merodach H192 king H4428 of Babylon H894, in the first year H8141 of his reign H4438, [fn]showed H5375 favor H5375 H7218 to Jehoiachin H3078 king H4428 of Judah H3063 and brought H3318 him out H3318 of prison H1004 H3628. 32 Then he spoke H1696 kindly H2896 to him and set H5414 his throne H3678 above H4480 H4605 the thrones H3678 of the kings H4428 who H834 were with him in Babylon H894. 33 So [fn]Jehoiachin changed H8132 his prison H3608 clothes H899, and [fn]had H398 his meals H3899 in [fn]the king’s presence H6440 regularly H8548 all H3605 the days H3117 of his life H2416. 34 And as his allowance H737, a regular H8548 allowance H737 was given H5414 to him by the king H4428 of Babylon H894, a portion H1697 for each H3117 day H3117, all H3605 the days H3117 of his life H2416 until H5704 the day H3117 of his death H4194.
