On May 31, 2018, at the age of 97, Pastor Bill Acton was taken home to be with his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
For many of the staff here at Blue Letter Bible, Pastor Bill was more than a contributor to the site. He was one of our pastors at our local church for the past 14 years. Therefore, he was also our pastor, mentor, counselor, and friend. We will dearly miss him, but rejoice that he is in the presence of the Lord.
Pastor Bill, whose works can be found on Blue Letter Bible, leaves a remarkable legacy of being a faithful minister, church planter, and disciple-maker for nearly 70 years. He was a true expositor of God's Word as can be heard in his sermons and seen in the detailed outlines that his beloved wife Fay typed out on a weekly basis.
Born in 1921 in Nebraska, Pastor Bill moved with his family to Southern California at the age of three. He would eventually study theology at Biola University and receive his M.Div. from California Baptist Seminary. Over the many decades of ministry, he planted five churches and ministered at several others. In his later years, Pastor Bill served as the Pastor of Discipleship at Reverence Bible Church in Southern California, where he would fill his week equipping saints for the work of ministry. Pastor Bill was married to his wife Fay in 1955, and remained faithfully together until her passing in 2016. They are survived by their son, two daughters, and five grandchildren.
Bedridden and nearly blind, Pastor Bill spent his last months reflecting on the beauty of his Savior and meditating on the truths of Scripture, oftentimes rehearsing sermon outlines from messages that he perhaps once preached. He loved and sang hymns to the very end, and we are comforted to know that he is now and forever worshiping his Savior with unbridled joy and thanksgiving.
We invite you to listen to one of Pastor Bill's messages entitled, Saved by Grace, and Not by Ourselves
Pastor Bill Acton’s Audio Sermon LibraryThe Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
