Deuteronomy 30

Deu 30:1-10—The Sixth, or Palestinian Covenant: (2) the covenant declared.

Deu 30:1 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee,

The Eight Covenants. 2Sa 7:8. (Gen 1:28; Heb 8:10).

Israel (history). vs. 1-7; Deu 31:16-23. (Gen 12:2, 3; Rom 11:26.)

Kingdom (O.T.). vs. 1-9; Deu 33:4, 5. (Gen 1:26; Zec 12:8).

Deu 30:3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.

turn thy captivity

The Palestinian Covenant gives the conditions under which Israel entered the land of promise. It is important to see that the nation has never as yet taken the land under the unconditional Abrahamic Covenant, nor has it ever possessed the whole land (cf. Genesis 15:18; Numbers 34:1-12). The Palestinian Covenant is in seven parts:

  1. Dispersion for disobedience, Deu 30:1. (Deu 28:63-68. See Scofield Genesis 15:18, note).
  2. The future repentance of Israel while in the dispersion, Deu 30:2.
  3. The return of the Lord, Deu 30:3. (Amos 9:9-14; Acts 15:14-17).
  4. Restoration to the land, Deu 30:5. (Isaiah 11:11, 12; Jeremiah 23:3-8; Ezekiel 37:21-25).
  5. National conversion, Deu 30:6. (Romans 11:26, 27; Hosea 2:14-16).
  6. The judgment of Israel's oppressors, Deu 30:7. (Isaiah 14:1, 2; Joel 3:1-8; Matthew 25:31-46).
  7. National prosperity, Deu 30:9. (Amos 9:11-14).

See, for the other seven covenants:

Christ (second advent). Psa 2:1-9. (Deu 30:3; Acts 1:9-11.)

Deu 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart

Jer 32:39; Eze 11:19; 36:26.

Deu 30:7 And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.

will put all these curses upon thine enemies

Zep 3:19. See Abrahamic Covenant. Scofield Genesis 15:18, note.

Deu 30:8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.

Zep 3:20. See Palestinian Covenant. Scofield Deuteronomy 30:3, note.

Deu 30:9 And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:

the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good

Jer 32:41.

Deu 30:11-20—The final warning.

Deu 30:12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?

Who shall go up for us to heaven

Rom 10:6, 7.

Deu 30:14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

the word is very nigh unto thee

Rom 10:8.

Deu 30:20 That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

he is thy life

John 11:25.
