Exo 8:24—The contest with Pharaoh: the sixth miracle; the fourth judgment.

Exo 8:25-27—The contest with Pharaoh: the first compromise refused.

Exo 8:25 And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.

sacrifice to your God in the land

The compromises proposed by Pharaoh are those urged upon Christians today. The first says in effect: "Be a Christian if you will, but not a 'narrow' one—stay in Egypt." Invariably it ends in world-conformity, world-pleasing, and seeking the world's money for God (Psalms 50:9-17). Cf. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Galatians 1:4.

Exo 8:26 And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?

It is not meet so to do

Separation. vs. 25-27; Exo 10:8-11; 24-26. (Gen 12:1; 2 Cor 6:14-17.)

Exo 8:28-29—The contest with Pharaoh: the second compromise refused.

Exo 8:28 And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.

ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me

The second compromise is a modification merely of the first. "Do not be too unwordly." Cf. 1 Samuel 15:3, 9, 13-15, 19-23.

Exo 8:30-32—The seventh miracle.
