Locust:

occurs in Mat 3:4 and Mar 1:6, of the animals themselves, as forming part of the diet of John the Baptist; they are used as food; the Arabs stew them with butter, after removing the head, legs and wings. In Rev 9:3, 7, they appear as monsters representing Satanic agencies, let loose by Divine judgments inflicted upon men for five months, the time of the natural life of the "locust." For the character of the judgment see the whole passage.
