Below are articles from the following dictionary:
Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words
1 Strong's Number: g2165 Greek: euphraino

Merry (To Be, to Make):

in the Active Voice, "to cheer, make glad," 2Cr 2:2, is used everywhere else in the Passive Voice, signifying, "to be happy, rejoice, make merry," and translated "to be merry" in Luk 12:19; 15:23, 24, 29, 32; in Luk 16:19, "fared (sumptuously);" in Rev 11:10, "make merry."

2 Strong's Number: g2114 Greek: euthumeo

Merry (To Be, to Make):

from eu, "well," and thumos, "the soul," as the principle of feeling, especially strong feeling, signifies "to make cheerful;" it is used intransitively in the NT, "to be of good cheer," Act 27:22, 25; in Jam 5:13, RV, "is (any) cheerful?" (AV, "... merry?").

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
