Custom (Toll):
"an end, termination," whether of time or purpose, denotes, in its secondary significance, "what is paid for public ends, a toll, tax, custom," Mat 17:25 (RV, "toll"); Rom 13:7 (RV and AV, "custom"). In Palestine the Herods of Galilee and Peraea received the "custom;" in Judaea it was paid to the Procurator for the Roman Government.
See END, FINALLY, UTTERMOST.

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
