Late:
an adverb of time, besides its meaning "at evening" or "at eventide," denotes "late in, or on," Mat 28:1, RV, "late on (the Sabbath day)" (AV, "in the end of"); it came also to denote "late after," which seems to be the meaning here.
See EVENING.
Note: In Jhn 11:8, AV, nun, "now," is translated "of late" (RV, "but now").
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
