1 | Strong's Number: g4552 | Greek: sappheiros |
Sapphire:
is mentioned in Rev 21:19 (RV, marg., "lapis lazuli") as the second of the foundations of the wall of the heavenly Jerusalem (cp. Isa 54:11). It was one of the stones in the high priest's breastplate, Exd 28:18; 39:11; as an intimation of its value see Job 28:16; Eze 28:13. See also Exd 24:10; Eze 1:26; 10:1. The "sapphire" has various shades of blue and ranks next in hardness to the diamond.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
